Sonya Hirayama grew up in Kyoto, Japan during the Japanese Facist Time period of World War II. Sonya is on her last year of holding the label of a maiko and is finally going to be able to hold the title of an official geisha. Her mother fell into her clinical depression and passed due to an opium overdose when she was 10 years old. Her father left when she much younger because he was a just a man who loved many women and would leave them on their own. Thus, after the death of her mother, she was taken in by her cold elderly aunt who forced her into the line of becoming a geisha.
