Foreword

“In 2050, the world was devastated by a huge pandemic, the Silver Plague. The world was devastated and for most, showing symptoms meant a certain death. First came the hallucinations, harmless will-o-the-wisps that turn into nightmares that only those who have experienced them can explain. The worst part is they don’t go away, throughout the time they are sick, these hallucinations only get worse. Then came the seizures and fever, the victims are bedridden as they thrash around with a fever measuring of around 106 degrees, literally frying your brain. After this, most people lose their ability to speak coherently. Despite how horrible this sounds, it only gets worse. The third and final stage of the sickness are hemorrhages, internal and external. The victims start vomiting blood and bleeding profusely from cuts that have no known origin. Along with this, patients develop black and blue patches on their skin that resemble bruises. These bruises start rotting and they take the extremities first; for example, the fingers, toes, nose, and ears. If you or your loved one starts to show symptoms, please contact as soon as possible.”

“During the time in which the symptoms work through their body, some peoples’ antibodies adapt to this new illness and they live, passing the final stages of the disease. However, those that did survive the plague were marked for life.

Q: What do you mean marked for life?

A: Those that survive have mutations that range from unnoticeable to a fully different bone structure.

Q: Why the Silver Plague?

A: Unlike regular people, survivors have different colored blood. We have yet to find out what the different colors mean though.

Q: What makes the survivors so different?

A: Survivors have altered bodies, we don’t know the specifics about how it works, but for some reason, they have powers.

Q: What do you mean by powers?

A: Well, they are either physical or mental. Some of the survivors have physical changes while some now possess psychic powers.

Q: Do you think they will pose as a threat to the government and civilization?
A: Most survivors are fully functional and mentally stable. Nonetheless, all of those that survived are teenagers and we cannot entrust such powers to them.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been 10 years since the Silver Plague wiped out tens of thousands of people and the world is still getting back to its feet. Everything seemed normal as the plague disappeared, for now. Everything, except people with powers were a normal occurrence nowadays. Powers, or at least that was what they called the people who had them. If you survived the plague, it’s not unusual to notice that you could make small things move, or float a few inches off the ground- nothing big, but definitely strange. Another strange thing was that only the young adults survived. The doctors said it was a mutation, something that affected the human DNA, which caused it to be less human. The flip side was that most bodies didn't deal with the change well and the reason why the virus spread so fast was that it fed off of white blood cells. As the body fought the mutation, it produced more white blood cells, which the virus then infected and spread to even more, effectively destroying the body’s immune system while invading.
In those ten years, scientists hastily tested other subjects with powers, locked in a race to find out the reason and the differences between the subjects with powers and the subjects without powers. There wasn’t much found but they discovered differences between the Powers. Subjects had a Mark on their body, resembling something that correlated with their powers. For example, people who could fly or float had some sort of flying object as their Mark- a set of wings, a cloud, or maybe a bird. Barely any of the Marks were the same, all unique and personal. The other thing was the colors; Marks came in a variety of hues, from white to green to red to black and everything in between. We found that the darker the Mark, the more powerful the Power was. The Government was weary of the potent young adults and decided to make a branch specialized to train the Powers for their use, and a branch to suppress them.
