    "Tao? I've been thinking..." Kris said slowly. I briefly looked up from my book, watching his fingertips draw slow circles into my hip. I hummed, showing him I was still listening, and continued skimming my book. 
    "I don't...I don't think Snake is human." Kris admitted quietly. I hummed again, my brain taking several long seconds to process what Kris had just said before my head snapped back up. 
    "What?" I hissed, closing my book around my finger and looking at Kris in alarm. He shrugged quietly, looking up at me with a significantly calmer expression. 
    "I don't know for sure." Kris said, blinking at me. 
    "What made you think he's not human?! What could he be? Is he dangerous?" I blurted out. Kris silenced me with a look and I closed my mouth with a snap. 
    "Do you really think I would let something dangerous stay close to you and Ryu?" Kris asked. I shook my head, snuggling down further under the blankets and sighing. 
    "What is he?" I asked. Kris shrugged again, rolling onto his back and folding his hands over his stomach. 
    "I think he's half human. I don't know, it's just a feeling." Kris said, r
