Chapter 8

 A New Face

Taecyeon paced back and forth in his office room. He hadn’t heard from you for days now. Not since the day you went out, and he walked out on you after hearing that you would be acting as Yongguk’s girlfriend.

He was too mad, and disappointed. He didn’t know what to say to you. Taecyeon felt like a horrible friend, and man. No man should walk away from a woman like that.

Hence, he realized his mistake, and tried to reach out to you, but you weren’t answering any of his calls, or replying to his messages.

Taecyeon rubbed his temple, and sighed deeply. He pressed on the button, and his secretary came in, a short moment after. She gazed at him with questioning eyes.

“What is it Mr. Ok?” She asked in a sweet tone.

“Has Sera called?” He asked for the millionth time.

His secretary tried to remain cool. She shook her head. “No, I’m sorry.” She apologized.

Taecyeon nodded, and signaled for to leave. She bowed, and left the office. Taecyeon sighed. He urgently got up from his chair, and grabbed his jacket from the coat rack, and pulled it on.

Taecyeon hurried out from his office room, and his secretary got up from her chair, and looked at her boss.

“Where are you going, sir?” She asked with wide eyes.

“Tell everyone that I left for an important meeting, and I won’t be back.” He ordered as he ran out of the room.

Taecyeon got inside his car, and fastened his seatbelt. He knew the address to your new home, Yongguk’s home.

If you weren’t going to pick up his calls or answer his messages, he would have to personally show up in front of your door.

Taecyeon had to apologize for the way he had reacted that day, and he still didn’t like the idea of you acting as a stranger’s girlfriend. But he knew how stubborn you could be.

On his way to your new home, Taecyeon tried calling you, but he didn’t get any reply. He sighed deeply, but decided to still go to you.

He hated, when the two of you were mad at each other for too long, and days had passed without any form of contact now. Taecyeon sped up, when he drove down the highway.

The little boy Ki Joon was in a bright mood today, like he is most of the time. You were on a playground in the neighborhood with Ki Joon, alone. Yongguk left early morning because he had some unfinished business at work.

Ki Joon slid down the slide with a happy mood, and bright laughter. You giggled as you looked at him.

You searched for your camera in your bag as you wanted to take a picture of him. You found it, smiled, and gazed at Ki Joon, who was running up to the slide again for another round.

Ki Joon sat down on the slide, and you got a perfect view of him. You clicked on the button and snapped a picture of him.

You smiled, and took more pictures as he slid down the slide, laughing. You got a few good shots. You felt happy, because you were creating memories with Ki Joon, together.

You would use these pictures for his photo album. Ki Joon came running towards you, and you quickly pulled out his water bottle for him.

He stopped in front of you, and grabbed it from you and drank the water. You smiled, and patted his head, softly as you looked into his big eyes.

“Are you having fun?” You asked, and he nodded.

Ki Joon gazed at you for a moment as if he wanted to ask you something, but he was too shy to ask. You smiled even more as you looked at the little boy in front of you.

“Is there something you want to ask me, Ki Joon?” You asked.

There was a moment of silence. The little boy pursed his lips, and his cheeks became rounder, and a bit red.

He was too adorable, and he then turned around, and gazed at the swings. You turned your gaze towards where he looked, and immediately smiled. He wanted to try the swings, and have you push it.

“Do you want to try the swing?” You asked, and he nodded quickly.

You got up from the bench, and he quickly ran towards the swing, and jumped on it excitingly.

You couldn’t help but laugh, when you saw how happy, and energetic he was. He reminded you of you, when you were little. You loved the swings.

You stopped in front of the swings, and told him to hold tight. He nodded, and did as you said. You began to push the swing slowly, and it went higher up, and the little boy’s smile grew bigger.

He felt the butterflies in his stomach, and giggled, when the swing moved faster. You laughed as you heard his cute little laugh.

“Woah.” He cooed, and you giggled even more.

“It tickles in my stomach.” He laughed, and you burst out laughing as well.

You gazed at the little boy, and felt so happy upon hearing him speak more. Ki Joon loved playing in the swing.

Taecyeon sighed deeply, when he discovered that you weren’t home. He rung on the doorbell multiple times, but no one answered.

He was sort of taken back upon seeing what kind of house Yongguk had, the place you were now living in. It was luxurious, big, modern and situated in a good neighborhood.

Taecyeon sat back in his car. He rubbed his temple, not knowing what he should do now. He had already left his workplace.

He started the engine, and drove out of the parking lot, and down the street. Taecyeon was randomly looking around him, eyeing the neighborhood, when his eyes suddenly widened.

He saw you at the playground, laughing, and pushing the swing. On the swing was Ki Joon. He frowned, and sighed of relief, because he found you before he left.

He drove to the side, and found a parking lot. He could finally speak to you, and meet Ki Joon as well.

Taecyeon stepped out of his car, and he slowly walked to the playground. He had thought about how he should apologize for leaving you like that the other day.

But he couldn’t find the words now, somehow. He sighed, shook his head, and continued walking towards you.

He saw you from distance, he could hear your bright laughter, and Ki Joon’s laugh as well. Taecyeon could tell how happy that little boy made you.

The little boy wanted to get off the swing now. Hence you stopped it, and helped him get down.

Ki Joon laughed as he jumped down the swing, whilst you held his hand. You looked out and froze. You hadn’t expected to see your friend Taecyeon here.

Taecyeon looked into your eyes. He had a straight face, and you simply looked at him. You sighed, because you were sort of still mad at him, because of the way he just walked away from you that day, at the amusement park.

“Hi.” He finally said as you looked at each other, breaking off the silence.

The little boy looked up at you, and then at your tall friend, whom he hadn’t met before. Ki Joon moved closer to you, and grabbed your shirt. You looked down on Ki Joon, smiled assuring, and then looked back at Taecyeon.

“Ki Joon, this is my best friend Taecyeon. You don’t have to be shy. He’s really nice.” You explained.

Ki Joon was acting like how did the first time you saw him at the Agency. He moved behind you, and hid from Taecyeon.

Taecyeon furrowed his brows, surprised to see how shy the little boy was, and he understood now, what you were talking about, when you mentioned that he’s really quiet around strangers.

You looked into Taecyeon’s eyes, and could see the worried look. You gave him a small smile.

“Ki Joon, Taecyeon is like an uncle to you.” You said in a sweet tone.

The little boy, grabbed your leg, and peeked out at Taecyeon, who smiled in return. Taecyeon’s heart couldn’t help but flutter, upon seeing this little cute, and shy boy.

He wanted to carry him, and spoil him with love. But the little boy stayed hidden behind you. You giggled a bit, knowing that this is how Ki Joon acts around new people.

“Ki Joon, it’s nice to meet you. You can call me uncle Taecyeon.” Taecyeon said in a soothing tone, alluring the little boy.

But Ki Joon was stubborn, and shy. He stayed behind you, and grabbed onto your leg firmly.

Taecyeon looked into your eyes, and you tried not to laugh. Taecyeon is usually really good with kids, but your boy can’t be won over that easily, or that is what you thought.

“I will buy you ice cream.” Taecyeon said with a smile.

The little boy suddenly stepped out, and looked at Taecyeon with a shy look. Your eyes widened of surprise, and you gasped.

Taecyeon saw your surprised look. But he tried not to grin, because Ki Joon was finally in front of him. Taecyeon kneeled down in front of the little boy, meeting him on an eye-level, and smiled.

“Do you like ice cream?” Taecyeon asked, stupidly just to make the boy talk.

How clever, and sneaky of him.

You were surprised to see that Ki Joon was tricked by Taecyeon, but you couldn't help but laugh, because the little boy is too irresistible, and adorable. But who says no to ice cream?

Ki Joon could be bribed by ice cream. Taecyeon looked into your eyes, and you knew what he was thinking, and you shook your head at him.

“What flavor do you like?” Taecyeon asked, and the little boy felt shy.

“Chocolate.” Ki Joon whispered, and pursed his lips, grinning. 

You giggled upon seeing how Ki Joon was acting in front of Taecyeon. Taecyeon smiled as he looked down at the little boy, whose cheeks were bright red. Taecyeon chuckled.

“He loves chocolate just like you do.” Taecyeon said, and laughed at you.

You made a face, but shook your head, and laughed, nonetheless. Taecyeon knew you too well, your likes and dislikes.

Ki Joon was fast as always, and ran towards the ice cream store. You, and Taecyeon followed behind him, and laughed together at Ki Joon’s energetic mood.

It became silent between the two of you suddenly, and you stole a quick glance towards Taecyeon, who gazed out on the street.

“Why did you come?” You finally asked him, and made him turn his gaze, and attention on you.

“You know why.” He said.

Suddenly, his tone had become deeper than usual, and he became quiet again. You furrowed your brows, and looked the other way. You really hated arguing with him, and just with anyone in general.

You sighed, because it was typical Taecyeon. He could never make himself apologize, even if he wanted to.

He is simply too stubborn, just like you are, and that is why the two of you can go days without talking.

Taecyeon heard your deep sigh, and he gazed at you. You looked out the street as you walked towards the ice cream store, and you could see Ki Joon inside the store.

Taecyeon looked down the ground, and rubbed the back of his neck. He sighed deeply, but remained quiet, and you figured that he had nothing to say.

“I’m sorry.” He said, unexpectedly, making you quickly looked up at him, and into his brown eyes.

“I shouldn’t have left you like that, even if I was so angry. It was manner less of me.” He admitted.

You were surprised to hear that from Taecyeon, that he thought it was manner less of him to leave you alone.

“I shouldn’t have left you, it was dark, you were alone and..”

You hugged Taecyeon suddenly, and he froze. He stiffened in an instant, and you buried your face into his firm chest.

“I accept your apology.” You said as you moved your hands around his waist.

He was quiet for a moment, and stared out, with a blank gaze. Then he cleared his throat, and hugged you back.

He moved his hands around your waist, and hugged you for a short while. Then he ruffled your hair. You groaned. “Taec.” And he laughed.

“You can’t stay mad at me forever.” He chuckled happily, and you scoffed at him.

“Thanks for accepting my apology.” He said, and you punched his shoulder lightly, and smiled.

“Just don’t walk away like that again, when you get mad at me.” You said, and he smiled awkwardly, which made you burst into laughter.

He groaned, and you pushed his shoulder once more. “I’ve been seriously feeling bad since.” He admitted, and you pursed your lips, and looked into his eyes.

The two of you finally got into the store, and Ki Joon was looking at the different candies with big bright eyes. Taecyeon noticed that, and smiled to himself.
