Twist Of Fate

Chapter 34

Escape

It had been more than a week since the incident from the club had happened. It still felt surreal to you that such a thing had happened to you.

That you had been close to getting into a quite bad accident. Luckily, you had escaped that night, and nothing happened to you.

Life moved on. You were busy with work, and your everyday routine was the same. Overall, your life is stable.

Either you or Yongguk sent Ki Joon off to kindergarten in the morning and picked him up later in the afternoon.

Yongguk seemed to have become awfully busy ever since the incident. When he got home from work, he would bury himself in his work, in his studio.

Yongguk would only came out of his studio for dinner, when everyone had gone to bed or to tuck Ki Joon to bed. You had never seen him this busy before. You wondered about why he had become so busy.

Whenever you saw him in the corridor, he would walk past you with a lowered gaze, as though something was wrong.

He was ignoring you more than ever, and for every day that passed by, you were certain that he despised you. He hates you. The man wouldn’t even look you in the eyes.

You breathed deeply, shook your head, trying to shake off the thoughts that seemed to make you feel aggravated for reasons you didn’t understand.

Well, no body likes getting ignored right? Especially from someone whom you are raising a kid with.

You cut the vegetables, your hand moved fast and yet swiftly. You puffed out your cheeks and muttered a few silent cusses.

Ki Joon was running around with Tigger in the house. The two were playing around, having fun, and you waited.

You waited for Yongguk to come home from work. You knew that in about five minutes or so, he would enter the house. Seven pm sharp.

You wondered if he would greet Ki Joon and Tigger, and then walk off to his room, just like he had done the past days.

You couldn’t seem to comprehend or understand his sudden change of behavior towards you. what made him act this way?

Was he truly ignoring you again, or was he just busy because of his work? You wanted an answer, and the more you thought of it, you got frustrated.

You clearly remember the day at the hospital, when you had fainted outside of Ki Joon’s kindergarten, and he brought you to the hospital. And the night when you came home from the hospital, how he took care of you.

He had literally cooked soup for you, gave you medicine, and even slept on the couch next to you. the corner of your lip curved down and your lips pursed into a small pout. Your heart was beating deeper and slower.

You had felt so safe because of him. However, the night when you came back from the club was still a missing memory, a missing piece from the puzzle.

The fact that you had been drugged, and the drug took your memories from you made you get further aggravated.

You already hated forgetting things and this was far worse. Your memories for an entire night was erased from your brain.

You were curious about what had happened that night, because you woke up in Yongguk’s bed, and you even had a bruise on your thigh.

But your lips had been so swollen. You could still remember how your face looked in the mirror the morning after the club night. Your lips had been so swollen, it looked like you had made out with someone.

“Oh God.” You shuddered at the thought and shook your head.

You chopped the vegetables faster and put it into a bowl. You muttered multiple cusses in Korean and English.

You had a feeling that you needed to remember something important from that night, and you didn’t know what it was. But the feeling was there. Something was missing.

You had that kind of feeling, when you leave your house and feel that you have forgotten something important at home, but you can’t figure out what it is. It felt so frustrating just thinking about it. You groaned aloud.

You had spoken with Soo Min and she cleared some of your memories for you, but nothing of what she told you made you feel like you had all the pieces to the puzzle.

She told you of your night at the club, and the guy whom you had met. She didn’t tell you anything else that may be of importance. Something was clearly missing, and you didn’t know what it was. But you were certain.

Soo Min had been surprised to discover that the kind guy at the club had lied to you and even drugged you. She expressed her anger quite clearly.

She was ready to find that guy and break all his bones, but you assured her that the police had taken care of the matter, and someone specific.

You excluded the part about Yongguk finding the guy and beating him before the cops got to him, because you know how Soo Min will make weird assumptions.

She would probably assume that Yongguk cares about you, that he wants to protect you, that he is a good man, and caring.

You stiffened at your own thoughts and stared off. The last things weren’t a lie. Yongguk is a good man, and caring, but not really towards you, right?

“Stop thinking!” You groaned.

You still wondered about what Yongguk had told the guy, because the police hadn’t uttered a word.

You feared that the guy would have told the police about Yongguk beating him, and that he could get into trouble. Apparently, he said he had hurt himself in an accident.

You didn’t want Yongguk to break the law and get a stained criminal record, because of you. Although, you wanted to strangle him at times, like right now, because he was ignoring you. You would hate to bring him into trouble. You sighed deeply.

“When is Yongguk coming home?”

You snapped out of your little reverie, and your eyes flickered down to the little boy beside you. You placed the knife down on the cutting board and gave him an assuring smile.

“Yongguk should be home anytime soon.” You said.

“I’m home.”

The familiar deep baritone voice broke out from the hall, sending a cool shudder down your spine, and your body tensed.

Ki Joon disappeared in the blink of an eye, and you stood still. Ki Joon always ran off to the hall to greet Yongguk, whenever he came home.

It was so sweet. It made your heart melt, but right now, you were only thinking of one thing, and you scrunched your face.

“I wonder if that arrogant toad will ignore me today too.” You muttered silently.

You stayed stiff and you could hear the familiar sound of his approaching footsteps. Ki Joon was laughing with him, and their sounds got closer.

You quickly averted your gaze to the chopping board, grabbed a tomato and began to cut it into dices.

You were making pasta salad with chicken tonight, because Ki Joon wanted this. Ki Joon really liked pasta, and you made him start to open up to salad.

You kept your gaze lowered, and you heard him clear his throat. He had been giving you the cold shoulder, so you might as well ignore him.

“What’s for dinner?” He asked as he passed by.

You froze with the sharp knife in your hand. The moment he passed by you, his strong scent lingered in the air and you inhaled his scent, inevitably. You bit on your bottom lip. He smelled so good.

You couldn’t help but to think about the morning you woke up in his bed. You hadn’t worn that nightgown to bed since and the dress still had his scent on it. You shook your head and parted your lips to reply him.

“Pasta!” Ki Joon exclaimed before you could reply. “And I helped out.” He added with a bright tone, sounding proud.

Yongguk strode around the island, and he stopped in front of you. You had been avoiding his gaze since he stepped into the room. But when he stopped in front of you, you had to look up.

You stiffened, when you caught his gaze. He sharp eyes bore in yours, and then he pursed his lips slightly. He grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl.

“I’m in my studio.” He said before he strode off, and Ki Joon ran after him.

You gazed at the two, and Yongguk suddenly lifted the boy in his arms. Ki Joon squealed aloud, when Yongguk tickled his sides.

Then he put the boy down and ruffled his hair. You sighed deeply. He would probably stay in that room till dusk.

~❋~

Once the dinner was ready, and Ki Joon had helped setting the dinning table, you had to call for Yongguk.

“Ki Joon, wait here. I’ll call Yongguk.” You said.

The boy seated at the table and nodded. You hurried off to Yongguk’s studio. It wasn’t until you faced the door to his studio that you stiffened and started to wonder what you were doing.

Every day for the past week, you had called him out for dinner. He usually always came when it was time for dinner.

You remembered the days he declined the dinner. Would he do that again? You bit on your bottom lip.

You stood still, contemplating about how to call him out. You gulped hard and cleared your throat. This was too much. You were thinking too much about it.

You reached your hand up. You froze again. You shook your head and groaned. You bit on your bottom lip and finally knocked on the door.

Seconds passed by and there was no reply from him. You knocked once more, seconds passed again, and there was still no reply. You furrowed your brows and knocked harder this time.

“Yongguk?” You called out, but he didn’t reply you.

You had no choice but to open the door. You grabbed the handle, pulled it down, and pushed the door open.

The room was dark, and the only light came from the computer screen. He was seated on his black leather office chair, and his back faced you. You could hear the faint sound of music.

You could tell that he wore headsets. Hence, he couldn’t hear you, when you had knocked on the door countless times and called his name.

“Yongguk, dinner is ready?” You called out, but he didn’t move.

You stood still, and your eyes finally fell upon the screen and you could see letters. He was working on a song.

Then you heard a pen scrap on a paper. You furrowed your brows slightly. “Bang?” You slowly walked up to him.

He hadn’t noticed your presence, and he was sketching something on a blank paper. You leaned in closer to get a better look.

It seemed like a drawing of a man and a woman. You didn’t know that he could sketch. Your eyes widened of surprise. You were stunned.

“Bang?” You called out as you leaned closer.

He didn’t respond, and you finally reached your hand out to pull his headset out. You gasped aloud, when he suddenly gripped your wrist, and hauled you forward.

You stared into his dark and sharp eyes. You were a hairs breath away, and his eyes bore in yours. He reached free his hand out and pulled his headsets off, staring into your eyes, and he still held your wrist firmly.

His thick, dark, and sharp brows were slightly furrowed. His eyes were ocean dark, and you gazed deeply into his eyes, unable to break off the trancing stare.

“Don’t sneak up on me.” He said in a low tone.

“I knocked.” You replied.

His brows furrowed further, and he pulled back a little. His grip on your wrist loosened, and then he trailed his hand down, and his thumb brushed up your palm lightly. It tickled, and your breath hitched.

“I even called your name, but you couldn’t hear me.” You explained, and your gazes were still locked.

You froze, when he grasped your hand, and you tried not to look down at your hands that were locked.

“What do you want?” He asked. His voice was deep, but somehow different, and softer.

“I came to tell you that dinner is ready.” You said in a small tone, looking into his eyes.

Why did it feel like you had come into the lion’s den, and you were an innocent sheep that was about to get eaten by this very dangerous lion?

Yongguk’s dark eyes were pulling, and his gaze somehow kept you locked, making your body become immovable, and momentarily numb.

His hand finally slipped out of yours, and you instantly felt an emptiness. The warmth that his hand had provided you was quickly gone. It was an odd feeling.

His gaze flickered away to his computer screen. He leaned forward and closed some of the tabs. You turned to look at him, but his focus was on the screen.

Your eyes flickered down to your hand and you could feel a tickling feeling in your palm. A warm sensation rushed through your body.

You scrunched your nose slightly, and bit on your bottom lip. It was too much. He had only held your hand.

“I will be out in a bit.” He said, with his eyes still on the screen, making you snap out of your reverie.

You realized that you had been standing still for a bit too long without saying a word. You felt your cheeks heat up of awkwardness.

You nodded, but it quickly dawned on you that he couldn’t see you as his back faced you. You breathed deeply, rolling your eyes at yourself for acting awkward.

“Don’t take long. Ki Joon is waiting.” You said, breaking off the silence.

“I know.” He breathed out, and your eyes flickered down to his drawing that you really wanted to see.

Yongguk suddenly closed his sketchbook and placed it away in a drawer inside his desk. You pulled back, straightening yourself. You needed to walk out now before it became more awkward than it already was.

You cleared your throat, turned around and were about to walk off. Suddenly, he grasped your wrist, making your steps come to a halt. You heart began thud hard against your chest, and you your lips soft.

“Kwon?” His voice was low, almost quiet, but clear enough for you to hear.

You slowly spun around and met his eyes. His grip on your wrist tightened, and he cleared his throat. You stared into his eyes, waiting for him to speak, and your eyes slightly widened.

“I’m leaving soon for a business trip. I hope it’s okay that you take care of Ki Joon whilst I am gone.” He said.

“When are you leaving?” You asked.

“The day after tomorrow.” He replied.

There was a moment of silence, and you gazed into his dark eyes. He was quiet as well. He still held your hand.

You blinked your eyes a couple of times and he didn’t break off his gaze. You should probably say something, but you didn’t know what to say. You kept staring into his ethereal gaze.

But then he slid his hand down your wrist, and suddenly laced his fingers with yours, as though it was a natural thing.

Your heart began to thud harder against your chest, threatening to burst out of your ribcage. You had questions for him in your mind, but your brain suddenly became empty like a blank piece of paper.

You couldn’t comprehend anything. You couldn’t think of anything, other than the fact that he was holding your hand and that he was staring so deeply into your eyes. It made your brain momentarily shutdown.

Your mouth suddenly felt dry, and you ran the tip of your tongue over your lips, softening it. For a second, you thought you saw his eyes wander down to your lips, and his face turned hard.

“I can cancel it, if you don’t want me to go.” He asked. His tone seemed deeper th

Chapter 5: It was nice to see them bonding with Ki Joon and in turn, him slowly opening up to them. And Yongguk's behaving this way towards her because he's kinda jealous of things unknowingly right? LoL... Setting my delulu mind aside, he's gotta change and not be like those elementary boys who are rude to their crush. Nonetheless, I hope they get to know each other better soon. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to fool their family this way. Anyway, I will be back later to read more ^^

Chapter 4: Ooh, Ki Joon is here finally!! But like Taec said, it's gonna take him some time to get used to the new environment and to also think of them as his mom and dad. But when they get there, it's gonna be really nice. And in that time, he's gonna bring in some romance between his adopted parents. Can't wait to read how things would go herein. But will be back later to do so ^^

Chapter 3: Hahaha when she thought there was some intruder, I was expecting it to be one of the other boys. Definitely didn't expect it would turn out this way. I laughed really hard. Like Yongguk, I think their cohabitation would be fun too. And I went through your blog to look at all the pictures at once. It was nice to have a visual aid for all those room. And I can't wait for Ki Joon's arrival. Will be back later to read more ^^

Chapter 2: Sera's and Taec's friendship is sweet. Hope there won't be a love triangle or something later. Also, can't wait to see Ki Joon. BTW isn't Poodle one of the hypoallergenic dog breeds? Tigger is a poodle right? That's what I remember reading but correct me if I was wrong. Anyway, now that she has gotten his address, wonder when she'll move in and how things turn develop (fights or so) before Ki Joon gets home. Will be back later to read more ^^

Chapter 1: Read the first chapter and gotta say it was a pretty good start. Definitely didn't expect the adoption to start this way. I'm definitely looking forward to their cohabitation. I'm sure they are gonna bicker all the time Ki Joon wasn't around. And speaking of Ki Joon, I'm curious of one thing. When you explained his backstory, I failed to understand this part. Is he N.Korean by origin/blood and lost his parents while trying to defect to S.Korea? Did I understand that part correctly? Anyway, I can't wait to read more. But will be back later to do so ^^
