This is Utopia
Description
The absolutes- There have never been enough food or water, money is scarce, music and art does not exist in his area. Marriage is certain to happen. This is the Utopia Jaejoong knows, but it is a lie.
Foreword
I like to play around with my foreword. I used to have a real one that was an introduction to the fic. Then I changed it to an excerpt from I believe chapter 1. After completing the fic I changed it to this. It's purpose is to draw you in with examples from each chapter without revealing the entire story. This is also a great way to get a good feel of what this fic is about. These aren't the highlights of the chapter but the parts that represent the chapters as a whole.
Chapter 1: Based on Survival
Jaejoong knew she had discovered his agony. It was a light relief; he was having trouble keeping in his coughs, and sneezes threatened to burst. His growing headache had him close to fainting, but he stayed awake for Yuri. Without her he was prone to seclusion and expulsion into the world that would not allow him to live. She was his only way to live. He needed to be married or Junsu would dispose of him without hesitation.
Chapter 2: Based on Possession
Yuri hissed at the man. “Am I an object now Junsu? Are women just vessels to hold your precious children? You have no heart, no soul. You make me sick!” Rage was pulsing through her veins. That man! He had the audacity to claim her as his! She held only pure hatred for his obvious corruptness.
Chapter 3: Based on Possibilities
“How are we possibly going to survive? It’s a barren wasteland out there! I still see this as death handed to us. Please Yunho; just explain this to me so I can feel assured.” Yunho thought of his words carefully. He knew that Jaejoong had frequently visited his private library. He must have known about the conditions of earth before the latest super continent was born. It was rich with resources and filled with livable conditions, there was no way he could deny that.
Chapter 4: Based on Time
The android’s eyes traveled to meet the gaze of her master until it found a circular glowing object slowly traveling across the circumference of the dome. The design of the mock sun was the most intriguing part of the sector. The layers of fire were a small sparkle in their bland world. He would equally miss the often waning and waxing white globe that glowed in the darkened hours.
Chapter 5: Based on Discovery
“Isn’t it sad? This place is filled with so many wondrous things like colors I have never seen before, but he will never get the chance to see them. I think it is a little sad.” Yuri nodded and took a step towards the window. The purples and oranges of the flowers were blinding, and nothing smelled like trash. Everything was beautiful, especially the sky, drowning in sunshine. Ruffles of green mixed with plants and she loved to see the layers of buildings grow in the distance. Each shape was different and overwhelming, nothing was the same. Art filled her mind and clustered over her senses. It was like looking into a dream and she feared that someone was going to snap her out of her illusions.
Chapter 6: Based on Following
It wasn’t wrong that he had power, he could abuse it all he wanted, and nobody said anything against him. Why? How were his people living in a world of complete control? Why didn’t more of them pick up arms and revolt against his tyranny? Wasn’t there any logic left in their destroyed world?
There was no logic, only the Almighty.
Chapter 7: Based on Impressions
If they were to describe each other he was sure that Changmin would know him better than the other way around. To him, Changmin was a tall, lanky guy with short cropped hair that didn’t get anywhere near his eyes. He had rather large lips that were perfect for on desserts and protruding ears that twitched like mad. His hands were large and able to wrap around Jaejoong’s forearm completely from thumb to index finger. His legs took up half of his height.
Chapter 8: Based on Absolute
...They deserved it. All the trouble they have caused would never be repaid with the simple measures that were taken. He needed vengeance for a feeling he didn’t understand. A rage filled him for illogical reasons; he just hated those that were wrong.
He hated these people from his birth, the thought of them made him sick. They were mistaken; they were bad, evil, and corrupt. His people, his kind, himself, they were the better person. He was always right.
Chapter 9: Based on Brainwashing
Each man and woman stood and saluted him before reciting the pledge they all meant from the bottom of their hearts. “To prevent chaos, to stop injustice, to keep sanity, long live Bling Bling!” The meaning was deeply engraved in their hearts, and they followed it like it was the perfect mantra.
It was completely reasonable, nothing to question about it.
They had complete faith in the education they received.
Chapter 10: Based on Extinction
He continued his adventure with the primates. There were few actual primates, but there were several memorial plaques for the species that were extinct. Jaejoong looked at the graveyard and nearly started crying at the loss. ‘99% of all species is extinct…’
Chapter 11: Based on Celebration
The day of Sunday, when Key was worshiped as God, District 1 went crazy with happiness. The hope they already had skyrocketed and infected the districts even in the far off land of 9726 and up. While some districts were losing their faith with the Almighty, others went ecstatic to even be thought of by Key.
Chapter 12: Based on Memories
His poor Yuri, she was actually sick. Jaejoong’s memory was not wrong, Yuri was never sick so her illness could mean only one thing. Holding up his wife’s hair as she vomited into the dirt outside their hut, Jaejoong pet Yuri’s back. There was finally hope!
Chapter 13: Based on Deception
The room stayed in silence except for Yoochun’s huffing as Kevin stitched together a deep sting in the bottom of his back. How would they find they spy? It was too dangerous to suspect anyone and plan secretly. Someone was a liar.
Chapter 14: Based on Tasks
Yuri rested on the bed and only stirred slightly when Jaejoong entered their bedroom, his clothes already halfway off. She actually opened her arms to embrace him, but he pecked her nose and ran out again with his shorts halfway up his thighs and wife beater tangled around his arms. Whispered ‘I love you’ and ‘you too’ flew back and forth, Jaejoong out of the house as quick as he came.
Chapter 15: Based on Learning
Within the hour, Yuri came outside to where Jaejoong was and gasped appalled at the sight before her. There the books lied in a fair pile, burning. The pages fluttered and the words screamed their lies, trying one last time to convince of their fake truths. The smell of the evaporating glue made him nauseous and Jaejoong had to sit down a few times as the fire built. The spine of the hardback books sunk in then crumpled away, the paperbacks peeled and fell off completely in broken pieces of ash. Holes burned through the spots of kerosene on the sentences of justice and equality. Words of tyranny blended together as the inks melted and ran down each line and seeped into the pages before and after.
Chapter 16: Based on Awakening
“They thought the same things! ‘If only there was a way to help them. If only they could feel like I do. But what do I feel? I only want to feel satisfied. I don’t want to feel at all. But I want to feel…’ And they all had the same realization, the same concept in their mind, dissatisfaction with the world around them. They all had the same answer, ‘Key took this away from me.' "
Chapter 17: Based on Revolution
War had driven this paradise into another hellhole.
Chapter 18: Based on Justice
Yoochun stood before Kibum with a black eye and dirt still stuck to the dry blood in his hair. Even in the face of defeat, he acted on his pride and did not look away from the small twelve year old boy. “Don’t make any hasty decisions now that you are in charge. Daddy didn’t give you his Kingdom so you could destroy it.”
Character Analysis
His relationship with Yuri, his wife, is rather fragile.
I worked pretty ing hard on making this a respectable piece of literature as well as a fanfiction. Here is what I have come up with.
Theme #1: Oppression and Revolution destroys beauty (art, originality, individualism).
Theme #2: History is repetitive and paralleling everywhere, no matter the circumstances.
Theme #3: Real love is not driven by or desire, but by unity and helplessness.
Theme #4: Certain things are absolute despite society trying to change them.
Theme #5: Music, art, and colors are all pure and rhythmic and the defiling of them is society's decline.
Theme #6: War based on revenge will backfire.
Motif #1: Awakening
Motif #2: Sea
Motif #3: Absolutism
Motif #4: Repetition/Parallelism
Motif #5: Music/Art/Colors
Motif #6: Evolution and Extinction
