Chapter 4.

The sun was obnoxiously bright in the sky and Kyungsoo shuffled uncomfortably in the heat, inwardly cursing himself for forgetting a hat and sunscreen on the one day he had lunch duty. He could practically feel his skin melting off his body and he didn't like it: he was far too fair skinned and heat sensitive to be cut out for the scorching summer temperatures. His walkie talkie buzzed from inside his pocket and it was with a huff of air that he retrieved it and raised it to his ear. It was school protocol that teachers be equipped with means to communicate quickly when on ground duty, and walkie talkies were decided on.    "Hello?"    "Man this is so boring"    Kyungsoo chuckled, math teacher Kim Minseok on the other end of the line. He too had been assigned on lunch duty, and like Kyungsoo, didn't particularly enjoy it.   "Yeah, and too hot"    Minseok huffed, and Kyungsoo could practically picture the gentle faced man on the other side of the school fanning himself with his hand, huffing unattractively. He couldn't help but grin. "Cheer up, only—" Kyungsoo glanced down at his watch quickly "40 minutes till the end of this blasted lunch break!"   The walkie talkie buzzed once more and Kyungsoo could hear Minseok groan miserably. "You sound far too enthusiastic"   "Only enthusiastic because I'm spending time with you" Kyungsoo replied teasingly. He had recently started to feel a little more comfortable around Minseok, mainly due to Chanyeol constantly forcing them to go out on drinking outings after work. The consequential care that Chanyeol and his economics teaching friend, Jongdae, would end up requiring on such outings had lead to Minseok and Kyungsoo becoming much more familiar with one another, much to Kyungsoo's silent joy. Kyungsoo didn't tend to drink much due to the fact he was a total lightweight and Minseok was surprisingly resistant to the effects of alcohol, and this meant that most of their outings essentially ended with the sober pair more or less carrying their two inebriated companions home. Kyungsoo wasn't a sociable or outgoing person, so he was happy that Chanyeol was providing him the opportunities to make friends with his colleagues (even though it meant having to drag Chanyeol's tall and lanky frame back to his apartment in the wee hours of the morning, which was no mean feat)    "Don't be crazy. I just want to get out of this heat. I have to teach a year twelve class next and having a migraine while trying to explain extension math formulas isn't going to be pleasant" Minseok grumbled. Kyungsoo smiled as he wandered over to a bench in the shade, plonking himself down and leaning back to stare up at the cloudless blue sky, lifting the walkie talkie to speak again.    "If worst comes to worst I do have panadol you can borrow"   After several seconds of what Kyungsoo could only assume was lag, the walkie talkie buzzed and Minseok's voice reached him. "That's beside the point"   Kyungsoo laughed, turning his gaze away from the sky to check out the vicinity of the area he had been assigned to watch over. His smile quickly faded when he spotted a large group of students converging in the furtherest corner of the school grounds. Quickly, he registered what was happening.   "Minseok, I'm pretty sure there's a fight. Come to the back oval now."   Kyungsoo stuffed the walkie talkie back into his pocket, the faint sound of yelling from the huge group of teens growing. Without waiting for Minseok's response, Kyungsoo had already begun to jog. From across the grounds he could see more students being drawn over, converging like animals to water. Kyungsoo groaned.   "Hey! Move out of the way!" He yelled once he drew up to the crowd. Barely any of the students even looked his way. Kyungsoo scowled and began to push through them, jostled around as he went.   "You son of a !" Kyungsoo began to listen to what was being yelled. "You go around thinking you're the best? You're not, you arrogant bastard!"   "Your girlfriend certainly seemed to think I was pretty damn good" a cool voice goaded in response.    The crowd parted just in time for Kyungsoo to see an extremely angry teenager grab the collar of another boy and firmly smash his fist into the others face.    Kyungsoo half screamed in rage and panic.  "What do you think you're doing?! Move, get out of the way!" Kyungsoo practically flew over to the two boys, yanking them apart. "What are you

Chapter 38: This was so beautiful. I loved the slow burn and the build up. I loved the relationships formed between the students themselves and the teachers themselves. I think everything was fleshed out well enough. This story also managed to be calm all through out? I can’t explain it well but everything was delivered superbly. It’s really rare to see fics like these where personal struggles are being expounded on. You started out with a Teacher x Student trope but ended up with so much more. The dialogue is particularly breathtaking, the lines always got me thinking myself. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us!
