The year was 2320. A new type of human slowly entered into the human gene pool. These humans were faster, stronger and  better than the humans. Called Mutants, these people calmly assimilated into the human population.

But the Norms, the normal humans, felt threatened. As the size of the Mutant population took over 40% of the world, the Norms took control, killing off any Mutant who did not accept the Norms as their betters. The Norms won, the Mutants lost.

To honor those who had fallen during the NormSurvival War, the Norms set of a game called the Mutant Games, where every year 24 tributes from 12 districts fought until one tribute remained.

It was entertainment, of course. But it was a reminder still.

Never rise above the Norm, or you shall be punished.
