Light Up My Darkness

Description

Kim Wonsik didn’t know what to do.  Was it because of his love for Lee Hongbin that he was doing this? He didn’t know. He didn’t know why he continued to lace up his sneakers and pull his black hoodie over his head. He didn’t know what made him walk out of the door with his backpack slung over one shoulder. All he knew was that Hongbin needed his help and that for some reason he would always do what the younger asked.

Foreword

Wonsik rushed out of his ty apartment on the 10th floor. As he half-ran out the door he ran right into his neighbor, Jung Taekwoon. He awkwardly mumbled his apology to the elder as they both boarded the elevator. Taekwoon silently nodded, accepting the apology. For once, Wonsik was appreciative for Taekwoon’s silence. He knew that he wouldn’t face an array of questions as to why he was rushing out in the middle of the night dressed all in black. Its not that Taekwoon didn’t care, Wonsik had figured that out in the three years of living next door to the boy. He was more of a silent guardian. Always there when you wanted or needed his help, but never imposed if you didn’t ask him for it. Wonsik felt a pang of regret for not getting to know to the elder better. But that regret flew out of the window as the elevator came to a stop. The door slowly opened to reveal a severely battered Hongbin.

“Ravi…” Hongbin groaned as he fell into Taekwoon’s surprisingly strong arms. Taekwoon looked at Wonsik, worry written all over his face, but he didn’t utter a word. The elder simply handed Hongbin over to Wonsik and slipped off into the night.

“Hongbin, what happened to you? What’s going on? All I get is a phone call at 2am saying that you need me to help you get out of town and then you show up here like this?” Wonsik half-yelled at the semi unconscious boy.

“Ravi, they are coming. Please. Help me. I don’t know where else to go. Please…” The younger’s eyes flew open as the desperate plea left his lips. Wonsik’s heart broke at the cries coming from his former lover. Should he help him, after all the heartache this boy has put him through? Why was he even thinking this way? Of course he would.

“Hongbin, who's coming?” As the words left his mouth a look of terror crossed the younger’s face.

“He, he, he, he isn’t happy with me. I told him I didn’t want to live like that anymore. I told him I missed you and that I was more than an accessory at his side. I didn’t know what he was capable of.”

“Did Hakyeon do this to you?” Wonsik asked tears forming in his eyes. He tried to blink them away; he didn’t want his Hongbin to see him like this.

“No, not him. He made them do it.” He pointed a shaky finger out of the door and towards two black figures. Both were tall and lean and walking slowly in their direction.

“Bean, you can explain all of this to me later. But for now I need to get you out of here.”

He scooped the younger up in his arms and took off out of the side door of the apartment complex. The two dark figures noticed them and took off running in their direction. Wonsik was sure they had been caught; the distance between them was quickly diminishing. He looked behind him, stumbling with the weight of the younger boy in his arms; he saw a figure appear from behind the pursuers. He looked forward, completely focused on running as far away as possible. Then he heard two loud bangs come from just a few feet behind him. He glanced back and saw both of the pursuers lying on the ground. Standing behind them was Taekwoon, he shot Wonsik a quick smile and motioned for him to follow.  He stepped over the two unconscious figures and followed Taekwoon.

“Wow.” Wonsik murmured. The elder stopped in front of a car. It was a sleek black corvette. With a shy smile Taekwoon opened the passenger door and took Hongbin out of Wonsik’s arms. He gently placed him into the seat and buckled his seat belt tightly around Hongbin’s slender frame.  Taekwoon then turned to Wonsik and tossed him a set of keys.

“Get out of here, now. Before the other two wake up.” He his heel and as fast as he saved them, he was gone.

“Thank you.” Wonsik whispered into the darkness and proceeded to get into the car. He had never driven anything like this. He felt a rush of adrenaline course through his veins as he started the engine. He glanced over to the two bodies on the ground; they were starting to stir. Without a second thought he put the car in drive and headed toward the freeway. Where they were going, he didn’t know. All he knew is that his Hongbin was at his side. He could do anything. He would do anything, all for this boy.
