Masquerade

Description

London 1888

The once beautiful capitol of England has just recovered from its Second Great Fire, but this time it was no accident. Amidst the people rioting in the streets as poverty strikes, the once flourishing country finds its hands full with the escalating murders of its young female citizens, all fingers pointing to a mysterious perpetrator and serial killer by the name of Jack the Ripper.

But for young Minah who suffers from memory loss, she knows little of the chaotic world going outside of her luxurious estate were she is kept hidden. That is, until one night she meets a dashing and injured young man who awakens her from her long sleep, and in his hand, a decadent mask that he hides quickly from her sight.

No words could do the boy justice in terms of beauty, not with his angelic features like that of a porcelain doll. Though Minah is confused and lost, she cannot dismiss the fluttering of her heart and the flood of relief that washes over her at the sight of this kind stranger.

With a smile, he calls her Minah, and treats her like an old friend at first, but as time drew on, she could see the light drain from his features the moment she could not recall ever meeting him before.

And with that, their first meeting leaves Minah remaining dazed as she awakens the next morning to find that the beautiful boy has disappeared without so much as a simple farewell.

But it isn’t long until Minah’s she finds herself before the boy again, only this time he is introduced as the cold, brooding and handsome Luhan, head of the estate and heir to England’s biggest, most powerful family, her Royal Majesty’s Court. Yes, the home of the Queen is where Minah finds herself under the protection of the distant crown prince, whom she learns has more questionable sides to him than just the one she had met the previous night.

And though Luhan has proven to have knowledge of Minah’s past, his distance forces her to rely on other methods that seem to utterly fail, especially with servants that have had their lips sewn shut by the allegiance of their Queen and her restriction from the outside world. The only relics of her past she can now hold onto is a gold locket around her neck without the key and a journal left with all the pages ripped out but one that reads:

“Find Jongin before it’s too late.”

Between learning the etiquette of being a lady all over again, and slowly collecting the pages to her past, Minah finds herself coming closer to the clues that hold the safety of the country in the balance, and discovers the importance behind her identity and why it needs to remain hidden. And along the way, Minah wonders if she will ever be able to uncover the same compassionate Luhan she had encountered the first night they met. Or if she’ll ever be able to trust him at all.

Foreword

December 1, 1887

Greetings Minah, how are you feeling? I'm sure this is a startling surprise to you that you're without your memory, and an even bigger surprise that I'm writing with the impression that you've already lost it. There's not much time left, so I will write quickly: If you want to undercover the remains of the person I, or you, once were, find all the pages to this journal.

-With love, Minah

Oh Luhan. You've probably met Luhan already, haven't you? There's a lot I would like to leave behind to say about him, but I suppose it's better if you learn for yourself. There are some things a person should forget, but there are many memories I hope to keep when you find the rest of these pages. Take care of him, will you?

This is going to probably be a one-shot until further notice lmfao but I had to get the story out before it killed me > <

Note: This is a 3rd person OC story that has 1st person journal entries.

Hello to all my old subscribers and new! This is a new fic I've been working on since I went to Italy and London, and I've always been in love with this specific era of time. I'm hoping to take my knowledge of 18th/19th century England and create an immersive story that goes along with certain historical references in a bit of mystery twist to it.

Chapter 1: Beautiful I can't wait to read more. After reading your stories I find it hard to read any other fanfics. I love the way you write in tird person so it is kind of hard to go back to first and second person. You are also very discrpitive so it is easy for me to imagine what is happening to where in other stories the author only slightly touches down on what is happening. Ok im done haha but i just wanted to say that i really love your stories and that you are an amazing writer!:)
