“Just what the hell are you talking about?” Leo growled, glaring down at Ravi who was lying on the bed.

The younger vampire was bandaged head to toe and Leo almost felt bad for being so mean to him. Almost. To be honest, Leo was a little more concerned about who had taken his mate and child then he was with the fact that the same person had beaten Ravi within an inch of his life.

“They came out of nowhere,” Ravi explained, “one second everything was fine, the next Hyuk was down and Sooyoung was crying. Then the guys in black showed up. I kept fighting, I kept killing them, but it was like three more showed up every time I killed one. They over powered me and while I was down they took Hyuk and Sooyoung. They put them in a van and drove off.”

“That’s when we showed up, right?” Hongbin asked, “Why didn’t they take you?”

“Hongbin,” N scolded.

“What?” the younger rolled his eyes, “I’m just curious. He knows I’m happy he’d still here.”

“I don’t think they had a reason to take me,” Ravi frowned, “when I was lying there, one of them asked about the plan for me. Another said that it didn’t matter, they got the valuable test subjects. They were just wondering if they should take me back too, if it would double their pay or something.”

Leo turned and left before he did something he might later regret. He knew Ravi had done his best to look after Hyuk and Sooyoung, the past seven years proved that. This one time shouldn’t be used to judge him. But that was a thought for when Leo had a clear head.

He didn’t have that now.

They had been so close to finding Hyuk and Sooyoung. N had located where the pair and Ravi had been living and it was just a matter of following their scent since they had gone out for the day. Leo had gone along, unable to stay back when the chance of just seeing his mate and child was so high. Instead of finding Hyuk and Sooyoung, they found Ravi lying on the blood covered ground while several dozen men in black suits wandered around.

Leo didn’t see Hyuk, but he smelled him. He could tell that his lover had recently been there and for a moment he entertained the idea that Hyuk had gotten away with Sooyoung, that Ravi had gotten them out of there. Then he smelled Hyuk’s blood and knew that the love of his existence and the child created from that love were in danger. He’d seen red and attacked the men in suits, not stopping until they were all dead.

After that, N and Ken carried Ravi home and they got to work tending to his wounds while Ravi explained what had happened.

“No,” Leo sobbed, throwing himself on to his bed and burying his face in the pillows, “I was so close. I was there, I was right there.”

If he had just been a little quicker, he could have saved Hyuk. He could have been holding Hyuk in his arms, apologizing over and over for what he had done in the past. He could have met his daughter, seen her face for the first time in seven years. But he wasn’t there in time to save them.

A/N: oh dear, poor Hyukkie and Leo. And probably poor me too since I don’t think many of you guys will be too happy with this. Can you believe how long the Luck vampire AU is now? 12 parts! Hahaha I think it’s safe to say that this is probably my current favorite AU to write.
