“Hyukkie?” Hakyeon asked, looking over at his boyfriend.

“Yeah?” Sanghyuk replied, looking up from his volume of Naruto, “everything ok?”

“I have a question,” Hakyeon smiled brightly, hoping that his nerves weren’t making his voice unsteady or anything.

“Then ask away,” Sanghyuk smiled, putting his manga down so that he could give the other his full attention.

Hakyeon took a deep breath, taking a moment to think about everything that had led them to that moment.

Hakyeon and Sanghyuk had always known each other. They’d grown up next door to each other and Hakyeon had helped his older sister babysat for the younger a few times. When they got older, they would tutor each other in different subjects based on who got the best grades in certain subjects. They’d been friends right up until they hit high school.

The pair started to drift apart, lives much too different for them to fit into the other’s life anymore. They had tried to stay friends, but as both ended up in different social circles it got harder and harder to find time for the other.  Other than their first year, neither was sure if they’d spoken more than three or four words to the other.

College came and things changed once again. Different schools and living in dorms kept them from seeing each other , something they at least had during high school. Soon, they only saw each other during breaks and even then it was just a glimpse.

At least, that’s how college started.

Hakyeon found that he hated his chosen program and couldn’t stand to be in it for longer than a year. Even finding a boyfriend didn’t help because the boyfriend didn’t understand Hakyeon’s feelings about his program in the slightest. Sanghyuk fit into his program just fine, but had the misfortune of falling for a guy who was a grade A . He started dating the jerk, blinded by his crush, and soon became the main target of the guy’s verbal abuse.

Hakyeon’s parents suggested Hakyeon find a new program, something he’d actually enjoy, and he did. His new program took him from his original school and placed him at Sanghyuk’s school. Fate seemed to be working over time because Hakyeon ended up as Sanghyuk’s roommate. The former friends reconnected quickly, the bond they formed in their childhood quickly mending and becoming hundreds of times stronger.

Hakyeon managed to get Sanghyuk out of his relationship, too. Hakyeon despised Sanghyuk’s ex for what he did to Sanghyuk and vowed to never let anyone else like that near his friend. At times, this caused fights because Hakyeon had problems trusting any guy looking to date Sanghyuk, so very scared that they would turn out like the ex. Overall, however, Sanghyuk appreciated how much Hakyeon cared.

It seemed only natural when they looked at the other and realized that what they felt was more than just simple friendship.  They still tried to fight it, thinking that it was just protectiveness or admiration and not real love. But it was love and eventually they became a couple.

And now, three years later, Hakyeon was going to ask a very important question.

“Marry me?”

“Yes.”

A/N: I was kind of temped to leave things at ‘marry me’ but……that would be too mean.
