Hyuk looked out the window of his apartment, watching the rain as it fell. The rain had always made him sad, always reminded him of painful memories that he wished to forget. It reminded him of being left alone in a dark alley by his mother while she went looking for food, only to never return because of a drunk driver. It reminded him of being seven and trying to stay alive in a world that seemed to want nothing more than to kill him.

“Hyuk,” a soft voice called out to him from somewhere else in the apartment, “where are you?”

“I’m here, hyung,” he called back, gaze never leaving the world on the other side of the window, “I’m watching the rain.”

“You should stop doing that,” the older frowned as he made his way over to the younger, “you know it only makes you sad. It makes you remember things.”

“I know,” Hyuk nodded, but he still didn’t look away.

Leo had found him when he was seventeen, cuddled up on a park bench one hot summer night. It wasn’t raining, not a cloud in the sky. The older man had taken pity on him and brought him home. Leo had stressed that it wasn’t going to be a long-term arrangement and Hyuk had been fine with that – a few weeks sleeping in a bed and getting regular meals before returning to the streets was fine with him – but a few weeks had turned into a few months before turning into years. By now, neither pretended that their living arrangement was only temporary; they both knew that neither would be leaving anytime soon.

“Come back to bed,” Leo sighed, wrapping his arms around Hyuk’s shoulders.

“Alright,” Hyuk nodded again, but he still failed to move.

Leo just hugged him tighter, pressing gentle kisses to Hyuk’s exposed neck and shoulders. Eventually, Hyuk got up from his seat by the window and made his way to their shared bedroom, Leo following close behind. The pair curled up in bed, Leo’s arms wrapped tightly around Hyuk as a means of comforting him, of reminding him that all of those sad memories didn’t matter anymore because they had each other.
