The fireworks lit up the sky, signalling the official end of the last year and start of a new one. As a child, Hakyeon hadn’t known that the fireworks meant that, he just found them pretty to look at. He’d beg every year for his parents to take him to see them.

As he grew older, the whole ‘end of a year, start of a year’ thing started to sink in. He found that it made the New Year’s fireworks displays even better for him. As he watched them, he always found himself reflecting on everything he’d done the year before and everything he wanted to do in the new year. It also allowed him a chance to realize just how much he’d grown over the year.

When he joined VIXX, the fireworks became even more special because it wasn’t just a time to remember his own growth. No, now he recalled the growth of s, his friends, and it made him so proud. He noticed their growth often throughout the year, but recalling on New Year’s as the fireworks lit up the sky was something else.

This year was no different.

Hakyeon still dragged s out to watch with him, lightly neck chopping anyone who argued. He still got them a hot chocolate to help keep them warm while they waited. He still yelled out numbers as loud as he could during the countdown. He still reflected as the fireworks went off. He still thought about all the things he wanted to change about himself in the new year.

But there was one thing that had changed since the year before.

This time he had someone to kiss as the clock struck midnight.

Sanghyuk smiled into their kiss, pulling back only to whisper to things as he smiled brightly at the older.

“I love you, hyung. Happy New Year.”
