VIXX 300 Theme ChallengeTitle: Heaven Pairing: Luck Related Chapter: none Word Count: 804
This was what they called paradise. A heaven for those who were different from the rest of society. Taekwoon didn’t see anything about the island that made it worthy of such a title. Sure, all of the hybrids on the island got along and they were blessed with a strong economy and no functioning government, but did that really make it paradise?
“Hey,” Taekwoon didn’t look at his long-time friend Hakyeon, but his fluffy black ears did twitch to signal that he had heard him.
“We’re getting a new arrival,” Jaehwan, another of Taekwoon’s friends, said as he sat down beside the black hair dog hybrid.
“Haven’t gotten one in a long time,” Hakyeon added, “so the whole island is excited for it.”
“Wonder what they’re going to bring back,” Jaehwan wondered, “a cat boy? Or maybe a dog girl?”
“Who cares?” Taekwoon scoffed, getting up, “who’d want to come here?”
Taekwoon had been born on the island, as had all his friends. In fact, the last new arrival on the island had come three years before Taekwoon had been born. Maybe that was why he didn’t think that his home was a heaven. He’d never experienced the hellish treatment of his kind that his parents had experienced when they lived among humans.
--
Three days later, the boat carrying the new arrival arrived. Taekwoon had been dragged along by Hakyeon and Jaehwan to watch with another of their friends, Wonsik. Their youngest friend, a cat boy called Hongbin, was actually right there waiting on the dock with several figure heads of their government. It was obvious why the government officials where there, but Taekwoon didn’t understand why Hongbin had to be with them.
“The new arrival will be living with Hongbin’s family,” Hakyeon explained from the bushes where they four were hiding.
All wanted to get a look at the new arrival, but that was forbidden. Taekwoon hadn’t really listened as to why, but apparently they didn’t want the new arrival to feel overwhelmed by having a bunch of people there. That didn’t stop the four from sneaking a peek at the event.
“The boat is here!” Jaehwan whispered, excitement clear in his voice, “I see blond hair! Looks like it’s a boy.”
“We can see,” Wonsik hissed, “shut up, you’ll get us caught.”
Taekwoon just watch silently as a blond haired dog boy got off the boat, slowly making his way over to the government officials and Hongbin. The boy looked so…….small. Breakable, fragile, delicate. It fit the boy perfectly and Taekwoon wondered if maybe the outside world was just as bad as his parents had said.
--
“Hello,” Taekwoon greeted the blond boy who had opened Hongbin’s front door.
The boy bowed deeply before scampering off. Taekwoon heard him calling for Hongbin, voice soft and hesitant like he expected to be yelled at for such a thing. It made Taekwoon wonder about just what kind of torment the younger hybrid had experienced.
“You don’t want to know,” Hongbin explained later once the pair was sitting alone, Sanghyuk having fled to his room the second he got a chance.
“What do you mean?” Taekwoon asked, not liking the look of sadness in his friend’s eyes.
“The things he was subjected to,” Hongbin said, “were horrible. Well, the things I know about, anyway. There’s still a lot that I don’t know, but what I do know…….”
“Is that it was bad,” Taekwoon sighed.
“This place is a heaven,” Hongbin said, “compared to where Sanghyuk comes from.
Taekwoon couldn’t help but nod.
--
“Look,” Taekwoon heard as he walked down the street with his friends and Sanghyuk, “it’s the new arrival.” He glanced over to find a couple people standing in front of a shop, watching Sanghyuk carefully.
“Look at his tail,” another person whispered, “look of rough the fur is.”
“A piece of his left ear is missing,” a third person spoke up, “I wonder what those people put the poor boy through.”
“I heard a rumor that they used him for that,” yet another person said.
“Poor boy.”
Taekwoon turned his attention to Sanghyuk who had apparently heard the people talking. The youngest cowered, moving a bit closer to Hongbin. Every so often he looked at the people whispering about him with terror filled eyes, like he expected them to suddenly attack him or something.
“Don’t worry,” Taekwoon said, moving closer to Sanghyuk’s side, “no one is going to hurt you. I’ll keep you safe.”
Sanghyuk glanced at him before nodding. However, he still kept a careful eye on the people around him. Taekwoon felt compelled to do the same even though he knew that no one on the island would do anything to hurt Sanghyuk. Silently, he promised to keep an eye on Sanghyuk, promised to keep the younger hybrid safe.
A/N: was kind of tempted to make this longer, but then the idea ran out. Hey, if one of you guys wants to continue with this idea, feel free (just, ya know, give credit where it’s due). I’d love to run with this idea myself, but *shrug* I’m stumped about how to go on.
