Last Autumn's Embrace

"What are you doing here," Hana spoke through her gritted white teeth, "Park Chanyeol?" She sent a piercing glare to the tall man standing mightily in front of her while collecting back the clothes that were now sprawled across the floor.

With one look towards his sister, Chanyeol snickered in distaste and placed his hand inside his front pocket of his trousers.

"Can't I visit my baby sister who’s living with my father?" He sarcastically asked, raising an eyebrow. He impatiently tapped his foot on the wooden, caramel colored floor as he waited for Hana to look up again. Being ignored was not his usual treatment and he hated it.

Hana stacked the sewn clothes in a tall tower and lifted them up to place them on the low, round, black coffee table beside her. Her jaw tightened as she noticed the shadow of her brother in front of her as she placed the clothes neatly on the table.

Turning around 180 degrees to face Chanyeol, she crossed her arms and looked up to the obviously angered giant. A frown instantly plastered on her face. "What exactly do you desperately want until you had to come here when obviously you can enjoy your comfortable, wealthy life in the lovely city?" asked Hana, furrowing her brows in anger.

A brown block was tossed on the coffee table beside her as Chanyeol motioned to it. Hana's eyes shifted to the block which turned out to be an envelope. She instantly knew what the content of the envelope was. It wasn’t that hard to guess as Chanyeol had been giving them, or rather their father, each month.

With much hesitation, her hand reached out to her right and grabbed the envelope which was an inch thick. Slowly, she pulled the orange rubber band that kept the brown envelope in place out and peeked into it. There could possibly be about 500,000 Won in it. A sigh escaped her lips as she placed the wad of money on the worn out chair.

“You know, wouldn’t it be better for everyone if you would bring dad with you to live with you?” Hana suggested in a calm, relaxed voice. “I mean, you wouldn’t have a hard time coming here every month to give u-, I meant, dad money and seeing my petty, annoying face that we all know you hate so much. I could also ‘suffer’ the ignored, poor life like you always wanted me to and always said I deserve it. Won’t everyone’s lives be peaceful like that?” said Hana as she crossed her arms.

No one would notice it, but her heart was beating in a speed that could possibly beat a racing car. It was the first time she was talking to her brother with really lengthy sentences after he moved out of the house 2 years ago.

Chanyeol’s index finger tapped on his chin as he looked up to look as if he was thinking about it. A grin spread across his face as he returned to look back at Hana.

“Nahh, having dad here is better so that you can suffer here with his hate for you.” He said, chuckling at his ‘brilliant’ idea. “Too bad mom’s not here to shield you anymore.”

Hana could feel a pang in her heart at the mention of her mom. Instantly, she lowered her head to face the wooden floor as tears began to form in her eyes.

Mom was a really sensitive issue to her. One sentence about her would bring her to tears.

I can’t show him that I’m weak again. Mom wouldn’t want that. She thought to herself. But she couldn’t stop the droplets of salty tears from escaping her eyes.

She looked up and already saw Chanyeol standing by the door, putting on his black shoes. "Just keep in mind that those are not for you." he reminded her without even glancing at her. "Like I'll ever give anything to you when you got what I have ever craved for." he whispered to himself as he smirked to himself.

Before he could step out of the house, the four words that Hana said had seemed to stop him in his tracks for a few seconds. He rushed to his car in a rush.

“You’re not the only one, kid.” Chanyeol said as soon as he entered his black Audi R8. Without him noticing, a tear managed to slip out of the corner of his eye.

I miss you, mom.

Every drawer was opened and every box was turned. The shelves were empty and the floor was full of the teenager’s belongings. The room looked like it was hit by a tornado.

“Where is it? Where is it? Where is it?!” a slender figure said frantically asked over and over as she threw the contents of her drawer around the small room. Despite all the mess that she had created, she still couldn’t find what she was looking for. She paced around the room, tracing back her steps for that day.

With one look around the room, her hands reached upwards to reach for her hair and she immediately yanked a bundle of her black hair in frustration, wailing about where possibly the picture could be.

“Hana! Can you just shut up?! I’m trying to concentrate!” a rather hoarse, low voice shouted from the living room, rather annoyed with the wails of the daughter.

The thin, white-painted door that separated the two beings from each other suddenly banged open, revealing a rather furious-looking girl. At the sight of her father with a can of beer in one hand and the money in the other, her chest rose and fell sharply as she pressed her lips in a thin line, eyebrows furrowed.

“Concentrate on what exactly?!” she snapped after glancing, more like shooting daggers, towards the two other guys who sat in front of the glum-looking guy who she would call her father. A deeper, if it was even possible, frown formed on her lips as she noticed the money that was collected in the middle of the three men.

“I’m going out.” Trying her best not to sound too annoyed and angry, she managed to exhale the three words before she headed to the brown door. It was already hard for her to not blow up incoherent words towards her father.

“Hana-.” Her father tried to stop her with the strictest voice he could voice out considering he was a bit too not sober with all the beer he had taken that night.

“Don’t stop me.” was all that the daughter said before she disappeared out the door, leaving a dumbfounded father in the house.

As expected and planned, Sehun was already waiting outside for her, a worried expression plastered on his face. By looking at the eyes of his best friend, he knew that she would just want to stay silent for a while. Nonetheless, the worry was still eating him up.

Throughout the whole journey, no words were exchanged between the two friends. Although silence filled the air around them, it was not an uncomfortable silence. It was just the silence that you would just feel at ease and relax your mind from all the stress that filled them for the whole day.

The dim, orange streetlights lined up on the left of the street lit their way up the hill towards the familiar dark outline of the building that was beginning to get taller as they got closer.

As the two figures slowly entered the building, they immediately got into the one hangout place that they always went to; the dancing room. Sounds of their sneakers echoed through the room accompanied by the eerie creaking sound of the rusty hinges of the all glass flush door.

Instead of instantly starting the music, they both sat cross-legged on the sullied brown sealed hardwood floor, their backs facing each other as they used each other for support.

With one heavy sigh, Hana began opening to voice out what had been bothering her mind.

“I met my brother,” a wavering sigh escaped her lips before she continued, “I cried in front of him.” She said and ducked her face between her knees which were now brought up to her chest.

Sehun knew that Hana seldom cried in front of other people, especially her family members. All he wanted to do was wrap his arms around the now fragile girl. And that was what he did.

Her head landed on his shoulder as he felt it getting wetter and wetter. Soft sobs could be heard as she embraced the lean boy in front of her. As much as she didn’t want to admit it, she missed her brother although she knew that he hated her.

“I lost it,” she managed to say between sobs which were getting louder. At first, Sehun didn’t seem to understand what she was saying. ‘It’ could be anything.

“I lost my mom’s picture.” With that, her sobs were loud enough to be echoed around the room. Patting her back gently, Sehun gazed towards the girl in front of him, trying to figure out how he would comfort her. Only two words were etched into his mind that would possibly calm her down.

“Let’s dance.” Sehun suggested softly, his voice almost inaudible. The corners of her lips soon twitched upwards to form a small but comforting smile as she turned her head to look up to the boy. Seeing the smile again, Sehun couldn’t help but give her the same small smile as he stood up.

Grabbing her hand to help her stand up, Sehun automatically played a soft song from his MP3 player. He wiped the tears that still remained on Hana’s cheeks and soon they were waltzing across the floor.

“We’ll find it.” He whispered.

The atmosphere had turned calm and the pair couldn’t help but smile. Being too immersed in their dance, they didn’t notice the door creaking open, revealing a rather dashing boy at the doorway. His cough seemed to snap the pair back into reality. Their eyes widened to see that they were not alone in the building.

“Jo-.” Sehun started to blurt out.

“Looking for this?”
