The Comet Project

Description

The Heo Twins were never normal people.  Even after joining Crayon Pop, they couldn't erase their minds of the horrific memories of their past.  The Comet Project, a government entity created to defend South Korea, took them away when they were only seven years old and turned them into unstoppable fighting machines.  Why did this happen?  Did they ever really escape?  Follow their journey as they live more than half their lives under the tyranny of The Comet Project.

This is a prequel to "Jumping To The Rescue".  You may enjoy this story more if you read "Jumping To The Rescue", however, if you don't have time to read the whole thing, I definitely suggest you at least read Chapter 13: The Comet Project of "Jumping To The Rescue".  If you don't read "Jumping To The Rescue", there will be an element of mystery only you will experience, because Choa and Way explain a lot of their lives in the Comet Project in that story.

Characters

The Heo Twins:

Twins accepted in the "prestegious" Comet Academy. Minjin and Minseon are unsuspecting 7-year olds who are suddenly being trained as special op soldiers. Will they ever discover the truth behind the Comet Academy?

Youngbin (Jung Gyu Woon):

A mysterious guard who acts as an older brother to the twins in times of distress. What will he do when he finds their treatment unjust?

Ko Soomin (Jung Yoo Mi):

The cold, fierce administrative director at The Comet Academy who slowly warms up to the twins. Will she be an enemy...or an unlikely friend?

Foreword

“Isn’t this exciting?”

Mrs. Heo pulled her eldest daughter, Minjin, closer to her as they sat together in the back of a large, black SUV.  She looked across Minjin to see a fidgety Minseon struggling for comfort in her scratchy new skirt.  Both twin daughters were dressed in new, matching outfits that their family could barely afford.  But they were about to embark on the most incredible journey that opportunity could allow.  Mrs. Heo knew they had to look acceptable for it.

“Minseon-ah,” Mrs. Heo called gently.  “If you sit still, it won’t be as itchy.”

“Mommy,” Minseo sighed, leaning on Minjin.  “It feels so gross.  I don’t like it.”

“Minseon-ah,” Minjin interrupted quickly.  “Just endure it for a little while, okay?  This is really important.”

“It is,” Mrs. Heo smiled.  She looked down at her daughters with adoring eyes.  “I’m so proud of you girls.  You worked hard enough to be recognized by such an upscale institution.”  Tears began to fill her eyes.  “I’m so grateful.  You two will become such incredible women.”

“We’ll work hard, Mother,” Minjin smiled brightly.

“I’m only disappointed that you’ll be away from us for so long,” Mrs. Heo admitted sadly.

“Sir?”  Mr. Heo, who had been quietly listening from the passenger seat, leaned towards the driver of the SUV.  “Is it really true that we won’t be able to visit our daughters?”

“I’m afraid so,” the driver told simply.  “The girls will be able to go home to you during the summer, but we would like them to be solely focused on their studies while they’re at the Comet Academy.  It’s very important for their intellectual growth.”

“That makes sense,” Mr. Heo replied reluctantly.  He looked back at his daughters and smiled.  “I’m sure you’ll make lots of friends, girls.  You won’t even realize how long we’ll be separated.”

“Daddy.”  Minseon’s voice faltered precariously on the verge of tears.  “I don’t want us to be separated.  We should be together forever!”

“Shh, Minseon-ah.”  Mrs. Heo quickly reached over and took her weeping daughter’s hand.  “We’ll be together every summer.  And when you graduate, we can be together forever again, okay?  Both of you will have grown into such unstoppable women.  You’ll be able to have any job and house that you want.  And you’ll be able to marry such handsome men.  Don’t you want to marry a handsome man, Minseon-ah?”

“I don’t want to marry anyone,” Minseon grumbled angrily.

“Mommy,” Minjin whispered happily.  “I’ll keep an eye on her.  Everything will be okay.”

“I know it will, Minjin-ah,” Mrs. Heo smiled.  “Protect your sister, okay?  I know you’ll do a good job, Minjin-ah.  I love you girls so much.  It hurts to see you go…But I know it will be worth it.”
