'Them' is term which referring to the third personal plural pronoun used after a preposition or as the object of a verb. -wiktionary.org
While literally 'Them' is referring to 'that' explanation, then I would use term 'Them' to refer to Him and Her. While we used to call him as Him and her as Her, in this sequel we start calling Him and Her as Them. Why? Yes, because him and her literally are being 'them' by now.
