[EXP] A Mother's Melody

Eosophobia I [Explanatory]

Welcome...

…Dear readers, to already the sixth explanatory chapter of the first instalment of Eosophobia! Time goes by fast and our angels are slowly being introduced to the colourful aspects of human life. With all these new cultures and creatures, there are still some parts of angel culture that haven't been explained fully. For example, the ceremony of Hanes and the Nekoda angels that are the result of it. Enjoy!

Hannathon // the Gift of Grace

The blessing ceremony, known as Hannathon, is one where an angel couple is permitted to enter the most sacred place of Gihon, where usually only the Priest and his direct apprentices are allowed. Here, after multiple days of seclusion, they receive a sign from the Father, that is then interpreted by the Priest. If the Father so decides to bless them, the couple shall be accepted with open arms by the Gihon society and could expect a long and fruitful life together. Please note that the genders involved in Hannathon are of no importance.

Hanes // the Banishment of Grace

As was described in the above paragraph, couples who have succeeded Hannathon possess a bright future. Should any angel, however, be found guilty of committing any act of intimacy with another angel before completing Hannathon, they will be forced to take part in a ceremony known as Hanes. In this ceremony, their wings will ritually be torn from their body. Due to the both mental and energetic nature of this trauma, their grace is typically lost in the process. Important to note here, is that any form of intimacy with an impure being will result in the angel having to undergo Hanes. Fortunately, these types of relationships are of the utmost rarity.

Nekoda // Marked

When a person has been put through Hanes and cast into Abeir-Toril, the human realm, they are no longer seen as angels. They lost the privilege of being an angel and therefore can no longer be called one. The name that has befallen them is Nekoda, which translates to ‘marked’. They are marked by the loss of their grace and the loss of their wings.
Nekodae are not allowed to enter Gihon ever again and if a family member tries to contact them that person puts himself in danger of being put through Hanes themselves. This leads to families of Nekodae almost always completely denying the Nekoda in question ever existed.

Gur // the Young of a Beast

The ceremony of Hannathon provides angel couples with the Father's holy blessing. It is only after His sanctification that angels are permitted to consummate their love and, eventually, deliver new life into the world.

A child born from a couple that has not been blessed through Hannathon is known as a Gur, a bastard child. These Gurs are taken from their parents, whereafter they are raised by virtuous angel couples that have been blessed through Hannathon, but not necessarily with children. The separation is seen as an act of benevolence, shielding an innocent child from an appalling sin they cannot be held accountable for and therefore cannot repent for. Due to separation at such an early age, Gurs are unaware of their past and are raised as ordinary angels.

Gurs find mercy bestowed upon them, for they are still considered pure beings. However, not all children born from unblessed parents are spared. Throughout history, there have been rare cases of children being born with tainted blood flowing through their veins. Any offspring descending from an impure bloodline will be abolished in any situation, for interbreeding is a moral violation that could contaminate the virtue of the entire population's genetics.
