Friendzoned.

That’s the first thing that comes to Taehyung’s mind whenever your name, or face comes up.

He’s been friendzoned. 

Taehyung was a college student at Seoul University, majoring in music and you were the girl who sat behind him in songwriting class. His pretty classmate that he somehow befriended with his weird ways and… 

the love of his life.

Yes, you were the ultimate crush of the weird boy with glasses who sat behind you in class. 

To some, Kim Taehyung may look intimidating with his good looks (with or without the glasses), his deep voice, and his judging stares. But deep down, he was actually a playful guy—even a little too playful at times. You became his friend because he was always sitting close to you in class and the months you spent with him had made you well acquainted with each other and soon you considered him as one of your best friends in the university. 

Throughout your friendship, you discovered that not only was he very talented and extremely funny, but he was also very thoughtful. Taehyung was the kind of guy who’s very loyal to the people he cared about. He will stay by your side, he’ll do favors for you, and he will always be there for you whenever you needed him. Because that’s just the way he is.

At least, that’s what you thought. 

"You… like me?" You asked again, unbelieving it for a second. Taehyung stood in front of you, looking both bashful and confident. You had no idea how on earth he does that but leave it to Kim Taehyung to do the impossible with his flexible facial expressions. "Yes, I like you Y/N. This is the fourth time I answered this question." You opened your mouth but he held up a finger, glaring slightly. "If you ask it again, I swear I’ll kiss you." 

Eyes widening, you shut your mouth immediately and Taehyung chuckled at your reaction. You were being too cute for your own good and he grinned. “Y/N-ah… Are you trying to seduce me—?”

”Yah!” You yelled as you smacked his arm, making him laugh even more. You loved his laugh; it was adorable the way his eyes turned into crescents and the way his teeth showed in a rectangular smile. ”Ha-ha. Very funny, Tae.”

"I’m serious, though." He said, his laugh faltering a bit; turning into a shyer smile. "I really like you, Y/N."

You bit your lip as the beautiful boy stared at you, awaiting your answer. It’s not that you didn’t like him. You did. God you did… and so did half of the student body. He was a great guy…

"But?" He asked as he looked at you with a wary expression.

"It’s not you, Tae. It’s me. I’m just not ready yet. And I really want to focus on my studies for now."

Taehyung’s face changed into one of anxiety into relief. “Oh.” He said. “It’s okay, I understand. At least it’s not another guy right?” He joked and you shoved him lightly. “I just want us to be friends for now.” You said. “Okay?”

He nodded and you smiled, tugging at his sleeve. “Let’s get some drinks. I’m parched—“

"Ohmygod! Stop flirting with me." He said and you pinched his arm, making him burst into laughter.

You had to give it to Taehyung for being a good sport, and a persistent one at that. After that confession, he didn’t give up. He worked hard when he wanted something and he definitely wanted you…so he didn’t stop trying to persuade you into becoming his. He did it discretely, throwing pick-up lines here and there, flirting with you whenever he gets the chance and remaining the loyal best friend you adored. The thing with Taehyung was that he never made it awkward and you found yourself liking him even more each day. But you always held yourself back; never letting it go any further than playful flirting. 

"Y/N-ah." Taehyung said one day as the two of you were studying in the library. 

"Hmm?" You hummed as you tried to focus on your reading. Taehyung watched you, loving the way your eyes skimmed the page and the way you bit your lip as you thought. He glanced down to your hand and poked it. "When can I hold your hand?"

"When I’m thirty." You joked and Taehyung groaned playfully, banging his head on the desk. "That’s awfully a long wait." 

"You’re willing to wait?" you challenged. “It may take a while—“

He lifted his head and the grin he gave you made your insides turn; butterflies fluttered in your stomach as he said. “I’ve been waiting since the first semester.” He shrugged, leaning his back on the chair before sending a wink your way. “What’s a decade more?”

With the words said, you grinned to yourself.

You knew he was a keeper.

"Yah! Earth to Kim Taehyung!" Hoseok said as he knocked his friend’s head, who was evidently spacing out. 

Taehyung looked up at him with a dazed expression as if being awoken from a dream. “Huh?”

"What’s going on in that little head of yours?" Yoongi asked as he took a bite of his sandwich. Taehyung was sitting at a table outside; enjoying to cool sunny weather with his friends. He was feeling sleepy and all he wanted to do was laze around. "Nothing, to be honest." He yawned.

All of a sudden a group of girls passed by their table sending them flirtatious looks before giggling away.  

"Aren’t they adorable." Jimin grinned as he nudged Taehyung. He didn’t react, just glanced at him with a bored expression.

"They’re not hyung’s type.” Jungkook said as he drank his water. 

"What do you know about my type?" Taehyung smirked.

"Plenty." Jungkook smirked. "For one, you like music majors."

"Yeah," Namjoon cooed. "He likes the pretty and smart ones—“

"The ones who takes songwriting classes." Jin added.

"And carries around that cute pink little body bag." Jimin chuckled.  

"Speaking of our Taehyung’s type," Yoongi nudge his head towards his right. "Pretty and smart music major with a pink body bag at 2 o’clock."

Taehyung glanced up and felt his heart practically lifting up to the clouds at the sight of you walking across the campus park. You were busily texting on your phone and Taehyung smiled at the cute expressions you made. It was like looking at a collection of emoticons—and God knows how much he loved those and how it always amused him. 

He heard a shrill whistle and before Taehyung could hit whoever it was who did it, you turned at the sound, your eyes landing on him. You smiled and gave out a small wave while Taehyung returned it by waving vigorously like a little boy, making you shake your head in amusement. As you walked away, Hoseok nudged a dazed-looking Taehyung. “Guys, I think he stopped functioning.”

"I’m jealous, TaeTae. How come you never looked at me that way?" Jin pouted, earning disgusted grunts and playful shoves from the boys.

"That’s so gay, hyung.” Jimin snickered.

"At least I have the height." Jin countered and the boys laughed out loud at Jimin’s misfortune. 

Taehyung was still watching you go until you disappeared inside the building. He had a goofy smile on his face and the boys took it to their advantage to . “Hey,” Namjoon said. “How’s that going for you?”

"What?" Taehyung asked, sighing and returning to his lazy expression.

"With you and Y/N-noona.” Jungkook said as he munched on an apple. He suddenly leaned over the table with a smirk as he asked, “Did you—“

"Yah, maknae!” Yoongi interrupted giving the boy a disapproving gaze. “You and your dirty thoughts.” Yoongi looked at Taehyung, “So did you do it already?”

Taehyung’s eyes widened as he realized what his hyung was insinuating and Yoongi chuckled. “I was messing with you kid.” He said. “But seriously, how’s—“

"We’re just friends."

A deafening silence hovered over the group and Taehyung looked at them warily. “What?”
