He has always believed.

Fairytales, legends, spells –WISHES. 

Somehow it didn’t matter if people gave him hell for being, not necessarily gullible, but just because he believed. He couldn't come to terms with the idea of giving up, no matter what. He's seen it all, done it all. Wishing wells, dandelions, bubbles. Not that any of it ever made sense to him. He just did them.
Well, that was until he lost one of the things that mattered the most to him.
