One Year Later

“Baekhyun, I’m going to work now, see you in a little.” Chanyeol shouted as he slipped on his shoes. From the kitchen, Baekhyun, who now looked 20 years old, appeared and gave Chanyeol a hug.

“Bye Chanyeol~ I love you, be safe.” Baekhyun kissed Chanyeol goodbye, tail wagging happily.

“Of course I will.” Chanyeol smiled and scratched behind Baekhyun’s floppy ear, which Baekhyun loved even though he was older now. Still smiling, Chanyeol closed the door and entered his car, driving off with a small wave to Baekhyun who stood in the kitchen window. At this point, Kyungsoo’s little book store had become quite large and he and his boyfriend, Jongin, were running the company.

Chanyeol, being a close friend of Kyungsoo, had been put as manager in the same little store he had started out in. Although he was offered a larger place to work in, Chanyeol had taken the small one, telling Kyungsoo it had special memories. Specifically when Chanyeol had found Baekhyun that fateful day, freezing and almost dead. Kyungsoo smiled and said, “It’s a miracle that you found him. I feel kind of guilty about not checking there. Baekhyun is a lovely person.” In response, Chanyeol smiled widely and told him, “It wasn’t a miracle, it was fate.”

After a laborious lessons on vocabulary and creating sentences with Chanyeol, Baekhyun finally had managed to create full sentences. Baekhyun felt so free, now that he could express his feelings to Chanyeol and not through choppy sentences that barely made sense.

Baekhyun sat on the couch, warm mug of coffee in his hand and switched on the TV to find the latest drama to pass time until Chanyeol returned. The latest drama was about a girl who was separated from her sibling at birth, adopted, and now, going back to her home country to study, she figures out more about her family. It was one of the only dramas that didn’t have some cheesy love story that made Baekhyun cringe.

Just as the commercials came on, the doorbell rang and Baekhyun sighed, reluctantly set his coffee mug on the table and got up to answer the door. Cracking the door, Baekhyun peered through and gasped. As quickly as possible, he slammed the door shut, but not fast enough and the visitor stuck his foot between the frame and door.

“Hello Baekhyun.” The visitor said in a raspy voice.
