Found Him

Puppy in a Box [ue will be rewritten]

Found Him

When Chanyeol was younger, his mother had told him happiness came in pocket-size, imaginary boxes. They were sent at any time of the day no matter where he was, what he was doing, or what he was thinking. Ever since, Chanyeol had received these boxes when he least needed it, for it was easier to receive them when happy. Only rarely had they come when needed.

April 20th just so happened the be that rare day. That day, as usual around this time of the month, rain was torrenting down, soaking everything in its path with no mercy.

Chanyeol, who walks home from work everyday, was struggling to see through his glasses as he held a sopping wet newspaper above his head, stopping under every balcony he could. On top of his wet misery, he had just been fired from his job for being late one too many times. It seemed as though the whole world was against him.

If Chanyeol hadn't stopped under the shelter of a warm and inviting bookstore, he wouldn't never heard the whimper, though let's not let our minds stray, thinking about if he hadn't, but he had and he peeked around the building. To his suprise, he found a box small enough to fit a small child or animal.

That's exactly what it held. Inside the box, wrapped up in a tattered, damp blue hoodie lay a tiny boy with floppy dog ears and a tail that would've been silky and soft if it weren't for the rain.

Sensing another's presence, the boy, struggling, sat up, blinking a few time before focusing his large, beautiful brown eyes on Chanyeol. He was a thin boy, pale as snow, and soaked to the bone. Plus, the hoodie offered no warmth or comfort, being that he was already soaked and he was shivering, lips a cruel shade of blue.

Taking pity on the boy, Chanyeol smiled warmly and scooped up the frail boy, tucking him under his jacket and practically ran home.

Still holding the boy, Chanyeol threw open his door and stepped into the familiar, warm apartment. Shedding his coat, shoes, and wet newspaper, Chanyeol rushed to the bathroom and the hot water, letting it run to the right tempurature before taking the blue hoodie off of the small boy and setting him into the water. As he set him in, Chanyeol had noticed the scratches and bruises littering his body and around his neck was a collar that left marks. Carefully, Chanyeol took it off and set it on the toilet.

For a while, the boy didn't stir, in which Chanyeol had changed into dry clothes and made dinner that consisted of rice and a salad. Every so often, Chanyeol would poke his head in to find the boy still floating in the water, not moving, but the boy's lips had turned a natural shade of red and his cheeks were a soft, rosy color.

Around the tenth time Chanyeol had checked, the boy was sitting up and frolicking in the water, oblivious of the puddles he made around the bath. Chanyeol smiled and walked in with a towel and pajamas he had found in a box of things from his childhood. After putting it through the washer and dryer a few times, it finally acquired the wonderful scent that laundry always had.
