Lyric thought it would be the perfect plan. Her two friends, Baekhyun and Chanyeol, wouldn’t be walking with her to school that day. She couldn’t make them watch her die. She told herself that they would be better off if she was gone anyways; she just

couldn’t hurt anyone else anymore.

She sat at her desk writing her poem and saying her final goodbyes. Every word was genuinly written onto the page with a pen held by her shaking hand. As a tear shed down her frowning face, she assured herself it was for the best. Everyone will be happier.

She grabbed her paper and walked out of the door. Lyric thought that the walk to the busy street was eerily calm. It was strange how the world around her was endlessly moving, yet she would soon be forever still. She remembered the millions of times she made the same trip. How Baekhyun and Chanyeol would always cheer her up by making jokes and assuring her everything would be alright. The only difference was this time she was alone, and she wouldn’t be making it past the racing cars.

The street was nearing and her breath was quickening. She carefully folded the note and stuck it into her dress pocket. Lyric gathered up all her courage by thinking that this was her last chance. This was her last chance to end it, and if she didn’t do it now she would be miserable for the many years to come.

Lyric closed her eyes in front of the street. She clenched her fists and ran straight into a line of oncoming traffic. As a car crashed into her, she heard two screams. Her plan didn’t work out perfectly.

Baekhyun and Chanyeol originally planned to not go to school that day. They were going to get bubble tea and go to see a movie. Baekhyun suggested that they invite Lyric but Chanyeol made the point that she wouldn’t skip school. Right after he said it, Chanyeol had a better idea. “Why don’t we just get all of us coffee and surprise her at the street before the school entrance?”

With two cups of coffee in Baekhyun’s hands and one in Chanyeol’s, they made their way to meet Lyric. “She’s going to be pleasantly surprised to see us.” Chanyeol said. “Yeah, right more like pleasantly surprised to see this coffee!” Baekhyun joked.

Despite what they predicted, Lyric wasn’t the one who was surprised. They were the surprised ones, and it definitely wasn’t pleasant. As they rounded the block and approached the street, three coffee cups hit the floor and two screams escaped their mouths.

They watched as Lyric’s body was crushed by an oncoming car. Chanyeol started running and Baekhyun stood still. His whole world stopped.

Chanyeol frantically looked for help. People slowly started coming out of their cars and forming a circle. “What are you doing? Call an ambulance, she needs help! Somebody! Somebody...please,” Chanyeol didn’t finish his sentence and he collapsed beside her limp body. He hugged her tightly and whispered incoherent things that probably meant, “you’ll be okay.”

Baekhyun’s body caught up with his mind and he walked towards the scene. He heard Chanyeol screaming and sobbing. He thought he could literally feel his heart dropping. This isn’t happening. He found a little pink letter a few feet away from Lyric.

“To whoever is reading this, I wanted to say I’m sorry. I bet you’re confused, and I can see how you would be. You see, I act like a rose blooming in the springtime, but in reality I’m withering away in the dead of winter. I couldn’t take this life any longer. The days are too long and the nights are too painful. I’m sorry I didn’t open up to anyone about my problems. If you got too close, my thorns might have wounded you.

Mom, Dad, I love you and I hope you can live happily. Baekhyun, Chanyeol, I also love you two. Please accept why I’ve done this and live happily as well.
