Prologue

The sun slowly rose and peeked through the chiffon drapes into the master bedroom.  It’s rays hit Songeun’s eyes directly.  Almost in no time, her eyes squeeze together in annoyance.  She tried to ignore the heat of the sun’s rays with her best efforts.  It wasn’t long when the sun finally convinced her that it was time to wake up.  She twisted her neck up to glance at the clock besides her bed.  It was about time to get up.  She turned her body so that she was laying on her bed, and gave out a pleasurable sigh.  The firm bed beneath her made her forget the reasons why she had to get out of bed.  Songeun brushed her side bangs out of her face and stared at the maroon ceiling.  Many different thoughts raced through her mind.  Without a warning, strong lightly tatooed arms wrapped themselves around her small waist.  The sudden movement snapped her out of her thoughts.  The silence that once enveloped her entirely, was replaced by light familiar snoring.  She turned her head to peek at the top of her husband’s head.  Junhyung had his face pressed tightly against her neck, trying desperately to hide from the sun’s light.  She let out a small giggle at his actions before slowly getting out of bed.  But to no avail since Junhyung’s arms tightened more the farther she moved.  Instinctively, she reached her free arm over, and began to pet his soft cheek lightly.  Songeun watched as the tense muscles behind Junhyung’s eyebrows slowly melt at ease.  This time when she tried to slip out of the bed, there were no problems at all.  She tippy toed towards her closet and grabbed the silk robe that was hanging on the knob.  She watched her husband shift into a more comfortable position whilst she slipped into her robe.  Slowly she walked out of their room and gently closed the double doors.  She crept down the stairs and into the kitchen.

Songeun went to work almost immediately, it was her daily routine, so she was breezing through breakfast.  She grabbed the ingredients for blueberry pancakes in a fast pace.  While she was in the middle of cooking one of the pancakes, she reached into robe pocket and grabbed her pager.  With extreme caution, she checked the prior messages carefully.  When she seemed satisfied with what she saw, she set her pager aside and continued to cook the pancakes that Junhyung enjoyed so much.  She tied up her hair in the middle of the the work into a lose ponytail to get it out of her face.  After she made three nicely rounded ones, she began to make two more.  When she began to flip the pancakes, arms wrapped around her waist the second time that day.  She let a smile grace onto her face.

“Good morning” Junhyung said while putting his chin onto her shoulder.

Songeun could feel his breath whisper against her neck.

“Right on time Mister Yong.  Make yourself comfortable at the table.  It’s about to be done soon.”

“Alright.”

His arms tightened around Songeun once more before he gave her a sweet loving kiss.  She knew he could feel her smile against his lips.   Songeun knew that she had a husband that any woman in the world would be jealous of.  After a minute or so, the pancakes were done and she placed the three hottest in one plate and the last two on another plate.  She gave the three to Junhyung and took the other one.   Soon they began to eat in comfortable silence.

“My mother called last night when you were at work.” Junhyung muttered into his food.

At the word mother, Songeun immediately tensed up.  She froze for the slightest second before it disappeared almost immediately.  She didn’t want her husband to see her reaction to his words.

“Oh.” She answered as emotionless as she possibly could.

She knew Junhyung was nervous.  He never let his eyes meet hers. Without any words, he just continued to stuff his face with food at an unusually fast rate.

“Well? What did she say?” She asked with the least annoyance in her voice.

Junhyung chewed the bite of pancake in his mouth very slowly.  He milked out every second to swallow it down.

“She’s been complaining about grandchildren.”

Songeun swallowed a frustrated yell.  After a moment of calming down, she put down her fork and knife neatly next to her plate.  She ran a hand through her sleep tousled hair.

“I thought we already had this talk before.  Honey, I just got hired and I need a steady reputation until I have any thoughts about starting a family.  If I get pregnant now, I would have ruined my career.”  Songeun explained exasperatedly.

She never kept her eyes off of Junhyung.  She examined his expressions carefully. Junhyung looked annoyed.

“But we’ve been married for four years.  We’re getting old Songeun.”

“Honey, I’m still 28, and you’re only thirty.  There are women out there still having kids at the age of 36.  I have 8 more years to get pregnant.  Junhyung, how can it be so easy for you to go back against your word?  You said you understood me.  You been there with me from the start of college, you knew how much hard work I’ve put into getting to this point.  And now you’re telling me to just give up?  When did you become so selfish?”

“I’m not being selfish!  This is for the two of us.  Not just me!” Junhyung screamed.

Songeun could feel her blood boil within her.  It was troubling for her to become this mad at Junhyung.  She knew her limits, but she didn’t know what her actions would be if Junhyung pushed her pass those boundaries.  She didn’t even want to think about it.

“No, you’re being selfish.  Because if it was you with the swollen feet and a stomach that weighs more than ten pounds, you wouldn’t be asking me for a child at this time.  If you were the one who had to give up your job, just to stay home all by yourself, to mope in your own pain, you would not do it.”

Songeun leaned back against her chair with her arms across her chest.  She had practically growled every single word she said.  She knew that her reasoning had sunk into Junhyung, it always does.  She was a very persuasive person after all.

“You’re right.” He slowly replied.

“So you’re just going to have to tell your mother that she’s going to have to wait for her grandchild.  You know, like every other time she called in the past about the same exact issue.  She always calls just to complain about me.”

Songeun grabbed her plate of pancakes that were barely touched at all.  She threw what was left in the trash.  She heard the loud clanking of the plate against the steel sink.

“You know she doesn’t hate you right?” He whispered.

Songeun turned the tap on full blast and began to wash the dishes almost ferociously. Junhyung didn’t hesitate to walk towards her.  It wasn’t long until she was embraced tightly by him.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have mentioned it.  We’ve had this argument thousands of times before, it was stupid for me to bring it up again.”

Songeun didn’t bother to answer this time around.  She was filling up with words that she wanted to yell at him with, but she chose to force it down.  Junhyung twisted around and lifted her face up to look directly into his eyes with both of his hand.  His touch was gentle and his gaze was unbreaking.  Slowly, he lowered his head so that they made contact with hers.  Her soft lips only brushed against his but he was spilling his love and sincerity into that one single kiss.  He truly hoped that it would calm her down.  When he pulled apart, she smiled sweetly at him.  Her eyes practically closed while a big toothy smile graced onto her face.  Junhyung thought he could see happiness in her eyes.

“I love you.” He breathed.

His forehead was pressed tightly and comfortably against hers.

“I lov---”

At that moment, Songeun’s beeper let out a loud resonating beep.  She ignored what was happening entirely to reach over the counter to grab her beeper.  Without a hesitation, she let her eyes run over the small coded words in the pager screen.

~’~

Park Jaebum read the code with no trouble.  He held the beeper tightly in his hand, contemplating about what he just read.

“What’s the matter?” His wife, Ryanghee, asked.

Jaebum looked down at his eye’s beautiful questioning eyes.  He just shrugged at her curiosity.

“My boss just wanted me to take care of a business contract that needs to be signed soon.  You know since, I’m the best employee they’ve got.” Jaebum grinned jokingly.

Ryanghee laughed at her husband’s joke.  After their laughter died down, she twisted her head so that she faced the television again.  It was a drama that Ryanghee practically forced on Jaebum.  Dramas weren’t Jaebum’s best interest after all.  They were sitting on the family couch, he had his arm around his wife’s shoulder as she leaned her head against his chest.  It was a huge semi circle leather couch, to match the big circular family room that they had.  Jaebum turned his head so that he was facing Ryanghee.  He knew she was beautiful.  But when the thoughts of the events that were going to happen later that day brought his lips into a tight line.  Subconciously, he pulled his wife closer towards his body and kissed her on her temple.

“So I’m guessing you’re going to come home late again?”

Jaebum nodded against the top of her head.  He relinquished the way how her head moved in tune with his.  She grabbed his free hand in a reassuring grip.

“Well more dinner for me then.” She mocked.

“Oh yeah?”

In one rushing second, he turned his whole body towards her and tortured her with his tickles. She tried hard to get out of his grip, but he was way to strong.  After many yelps of stops and pleases, he finally let go of her with a grin.  She glared at him in response, breath still heaving from his actions.  God, she was so beautiful.

“So do you know what time are you actually going to be home?”

~’~

“Not sure.”  Songeun answered.

She fixed Junhyung’s tie so that it laid nicely against his pin-striped dress shirt.  When she was satisfied with what she saw, she turned around and grabbed his suit jacket off the couch.  With her head, she motioned him to turn around, and he did it without another thought.  Slowly she slipped the jacket onto his upper body.  She then turned him around again to fix the jacket.

“Don’t wait up for me okay?”

Junhyung looked hesitant for a second.  After she gave him a look that he knew so well, he slowly nodded and hugged her tightly.

“Me too.”

He pulled away from the hug to peck her on the forehead.  He opened the front door and walked towards the driveway.

“Have a good day at work okay?  Don’t worry about me!” She exclaimed.

Junhyung waved his hand in the air to give a silent reply.  He gave her a small smile before opening the driver’s seat door.  She didn’t close the door until she watched the car pull out the driveway and disappear in the distance.  When she finally shut the door, her mask dropped.  The innocent, sweet and pure face was replaced by a cold demeanor.  She made her way to the master bedroom, while pulling her hair out of the pony tail.  The house was now dead silent.  She walked towards her closet to pull the door open.  She fumbled at the deepest right corner of the closet to finally find what she was looking for.  After pressing a few numbers, there was a loud beep and stepped back.  The back wall of the closet began to separate right down the middle and pulled open.   Fluorescent lights brightly poured out of the hidden room and shone onto her face.  Her cold glare was unfaltering.

Jaebum’s lips pulled up to a horrifying smirk.

“Come to Daddy.” He growled.

He reached for the items in his secret room, while chuckling to himself.

“Let’s do this.”

~’~

“Let’s do this.” She muttered to herself.
