“Dr. Song I’ve already changed the dressing of the patient in ward 58, the healing is faster than we expected.”

“That’s good but continue to monitor her every three hours so we will know if we’ll reduce her dosage or not.”  Dr. Song replied while they were both walking.

“Yes doctor.”

As Victoria dismissed one of her colleagues, she immediately headed to her own office. She started to pick things up, removed her white coat and went out of her office as she moved the signage to ‘doctor is out’.

This has been her usual life cycle since she arrived in Korea two years ago. She lived in United States for more than half of her life being got used to its culture and practices. She also got her pre-med, med proper and practice there, not until his father decided to move their main company in Korea since it is his homeland. Victoria’s mom is Chinese who died when she was eight and that was the reason why she and her dad decided to move to US. Her mother is also a doctor, an obstetrician-gynecologist, that’s what made Victoria decided to become a doctor but became a general surgeon.

Victoria applied to one of the best performing medical centers in Korea, St. Luke’s Medical Center. Its name was derived from St. Luke the Evangelist who is the patron saint of  artists, physicians, surgeons, students and butchers. Having an outstanding records and a good recommendation from the hospital where she came from in US, Victoria immediately got a spot in the medical center.

Now, it’s been two years and she’s doing better and better after being recognized on the difficult surgeries she has done.

“Dr. Song are you going?” someone called from behind which made her turn around.

“Oh Krystal!” Victoria recognized another doctor, Krystal Jung. Not just a doctor but her best friend. Krystal was her friend when she was young and good thing they had a constant communication which made them get closer even with the distance. Krystal’s family is a ‘partial’ owner of the Medical Center since her grandfather owns Global Group of Cos. where Medical Center belongs. That’s why she didn’t inform her that she applied to the medical center so she would be issued having a ‘backer’ to enter the medical center.

“You going home?” Krystal asked.

“Actually…. Not really, I need to meet my dad’s secretary since dad relayed some message…” Victoria replied.

“Oh is that so, then I’ll just see you tomorrow, take care and drive safely!” Krystal said as she escorted Victoria to the elevator.

“I will, you too… bye!” Victoria replied with a smile before the elevator closed.

“Nichkhun you’ve worked hard today, let’s close the clinic before going home. I’m starving.” Doctor Hwan, a 55 years old Physician told Nichkhun who was busy picking up some of the stuff toys that was used by some of the kids who had their check up from doctor Hwan.

Dr. Hwan has a small clinic in their small place where the villagers go for check-up and immediate immobilization of minor diseases or injuries. Dr. Hwan met Nichkhun when he ate on a sidewalk foodstand and a traffic incident happened injuring a motorcyclist and a passerby. Being a doctor, he immediately volunteered to perform an immediate first aid while they were waiting for 119 response. Nichkhun who was also eating in that food stand witnessed what happened. As a lot of passersby started to observe what was the doctor doing, Nichkhun noticed that he was actually having a hard time since he looked a little aged and alone while the injured person was almost a times two of his size. Even though uneducated of anything concerned first aid, Nichkhun still volunteered to help Dr. Hwan even just on moving the patient.

They also accompanied the 119 as they brought the victims to the hospital for they both have done something. After Dr. Hwan told the attending physician what happened they were dismissed. Dr. Hwan thanked Nichkhun for helping. After learning that Nichkhun was actually an orphan who doesn’t even have a stable place to live, he felt a sudden sympathy as he offered him to stay with him since he was also alone in life. Nichkhun at first declined saying that he’ll just be a burden but Dr. Hwan offered that he could help him out in his clinic in return of his free board, lodging and food. Nichkhun found Dr. Hwan’s offer acceptable so he did help him out. He became an instant receptionist and entertainer to the patients who came.

“Okay Dr. I’m done… where should we eat?” Nichkhun said as he has finished his work.

“let’s just eat on the nearby stand, we ended late tonight so I don’t think there is going to be an open restaurant around the area.” Dr. Hwan replied as he removed his coat and got his bag.

“Food stand it is!” Nichkhun replied enthusiastically as he turned off the light and locked the door, now the doctor is out.

“Are you serious?!” Victoria almost chocked her water upon hearing what the secretary has told her.

“Yes Vic… this is what your father told me.” Mr. Chan said which made Victoria take a deep sigh. Her father is serious on her settling down before the age of twenty nine and she’s twenty eight now! Her father once told her that he didn’t want her to become an old maid which actually made her furious… now he’s actually doing things to make her find a lover?!

“And your blind date starts tomorrow.” Mr. Chan informed her which made her jaw drop.

“Is he really pushing through with this?!” Victoria asked again.

“Yes Vic and he seriously wants you to show up in the blind date since it’s one of the stock holder’s son… you know your dad doesn’t look on status in life but it’s his first card and he still looking for a lot more. I bet he’ll not stop until you pick one.” Mr. Chan told her which made her close her eyes to clear her mind. She doesn’t need a lover… but truth to be told Victoria is a NBSB… yes at the age of twenty eight Victoria never had a boyfriend nor flings. It was her own choice and for some dads… her father doesn’t support it.

“Tell him I don’t need to attend those blind dates for I have a boyfriend.” Victoria blurted out. She doesn’t know why did it slip but she knows that it’s the only way to shut her father up. On how to actually look for one? She’ll attend that later.

Mr. Chan looked at her as if not believing what she’s saying. He have been closely working with the Songs since he was on his twenties and now that he’s in he’s forties, he could actually say that he have known the family quite well.

“Why are you looking at me that way?” Victoria asked as she raised a brow and got her phone from her bag.

“You do know that your father doesn’t want anyone to deceive him right? Victoria whatever you are planning just don’t do-“

“I’m not deceiving anyone here! How can I? I’m a doctor and I can’t manage to deceive a patience about her condition… so how could I deceive my own father? I’m telling you I’ve been dating for a year already.” Victoria replied as she tried to control her voice… though her hands were actually typing under the table.

“You’re dating?!” Mr. Chan asked in disbelief. Victoria is living in Korea alone since the transfer of the main company is not as easy as it is so her father needed to supervise it in the US. They haven’t really monitored her since then so what she might be saying is true… for him.

“Yes I am… I met him when I came here and eventually started dating after some time.” Victoria replied.

“Well then this may be a good news to your dad… I’ll immediately tell him to cancel the date for tomorrow… but you know that you need to let him meet your dad right?” Mr. Chan said.

“Yes I know… and I’m actually planning to tell him on his birthday… he’s going to held a party here right?” Victoria replied.

“Yes…. Okay then if we have nothing more to discuss, I’ll take my leave… and I hope you’re someone and your dad will have a good relationship.” Mr. Chan said as he stood up and smile.

“I know they will… Thank you Mr. Chan and see you next time.” Victoria replied with a smile.

Krystal has just entered her office after making her rounds, she immediately saw her phone vibrating as she realized that she forgot to bring it. As she got hold of her phone, 13 missed calls, 15 messages… all came from Victoria Song.

‘I need help.’

Victoria’s text made Krystal’s eyes widen as she immediately dialed her back as she tried to erase negative thoughts from her mind.

“Hello Qian where are you?!” He voice was filled with worry.

“Hey calm down, what’s with the voice?”

“You’re okay right? You’re not injured or something?”

“Yes I am…. Why-“

“then why did you texted me several times and even called?! I almost broke down after reading your text… it seemed so urgent!” Krystal’s voice sounded annoyed as she seriously think that something bad happened.

“Krystal….”

“Yes?”

“I need a man.”

“WHAAAT?!”
