Arcana was a wonderful place to live, if you excluded its government. Arcana was ruled by a prince, and not just any prince, but a vampire prince. As you know, vampires feed on human blood to stay strong. But did you know that vampires, like werewolves, need a mate? 

 

Yes, vampires need mates like their natural enemy, the werewolves. There is a legend that if a vampire has his mate, he will not drink anyone else's blood because their mate's blood was the finest and richest. Therefore the townspeople of Arcana desperately tried to find the prince his mate as soon as possible to stop the nightly attacks on the innocent people all over the island. 

 

Every year in Arcana, all girls, who turned 18 before winter arrived, were brought to the royal castle and sent to meet the prince. Those who were rejected would go back to the village, but most would meet a painful death and die in the prince's hands. This day is known as the Feeding, or as I like to call it: the day 18-year-old girls die. 

 

This year, it was my turn. And hopefully, I'll return to my family's farm in one piece.
