One Cold Day

Description

Love has no direction. It follows the heart.

Foreword

"God, I love this weather."

Carter rolled her eyes, and tightened the scarf closer around her neck. "You've got to be kidding me. It's like freaking below 20 degrees out here. Remind me again why we're out here, anyway?"

Min, her Korean best friend, giggled, and straightened her little beanie. "Because we ran out of cocoa, and French vanilla. That's why. Anymore more questions?"

Carter began walking faster down the sidewalk of Hongdae with Min trying to keep up.

It was around that time of Christmas, around the mid December. Don't get Carter wrong. She loved the winter, especially around Christmas time, but she didn't have a clue that it could get below freezing in Korea. That important fact didn't reach her until the season actually came around the corner. She wondered why it hadn't snowed yet.

"C, slow down. They're not gonna run out, you know," Min said, slightly panting while trying to match the girl's pace. Carter sighed.

"Oh I know, I just want to get the stuff so we can go back into our comfortably heated apartment," She replied.

Min smiled. "The climate will grow on you. I promise."

Carter glanced over at Min. "Don't make promises you can't keep."

Min giggled. "I know. I didn't."

"Which brand do you think is the best? I've always had trouble deciding which one would taste better even though I've been here in Korea for like forever," Min asked, looking at the two different brands of cocoa.

Carter shrugged while looking elsewhere. "I don't know. Just pick one. Brands shouldn't matter."

Min glanced at her friend with a slight frown. "What's the matter, C? The weather isn't affecting you this much, I know."

Carter looked at Min, and shifted from one foot to the other. "I see so many couples here holding hands or smiling lovingly to each other, and you have a boyfriend. I've just been wondering why..." she smiled, and shook her head. "Nevermind. It's not important. Take your time. I need to get some fresh air."

Carter began walking away towards the store entrance. "But there's fresh air in here," Min called out to her, worriedly.

Carter looked back at her. "I don't want your air. Just keep shopping, and don't rush. I'll be outside the store, okay?"

Then she left out leaving Min extremely confused, and concerned. Min sighed. "Aish."

Carter stepped out of the store, and felt a shiver run down her spine. She could've sworn it had dropped a couple more degrees while she was in the store.

She looked around, then leaned up against the wall by the window of the store, and dropped her head so the wind wouldn't touch her face as much.

"Why couldn't we have went to a closer store? All we're even getting is a bottle of shampoo."

"A bottle which SOMEONE used up the week after I got it."

"I'm telling you, it was Daesung. He takes four showers a day."

"You're a bad liar, you know that? Daesung is rarely in the dorm."

"Still wasn't me, and why am I even going? You could've came by yourself."

"It's good to know that you care, Jiyoung."

"You're welcome."

Carter determined whether she should look up or not, but ended up looking up anyway. Curiosity killed the cat.

The two guys that walked past her looked so strangely familiar. The tall one had weird blue or mint colored hair, and funny eyebrows. The short one had blond hair, and a cute boyish pout along his flawless complexion.

She couldn't really tell how she knew them, it was more like that strange gut-knowing feeling that you sometimes get when you see someone you think you know. That's how it was for her.

As they walked past her, she felt the urge to say something, but quickly swallowed it. She never was good talking to guys. The thought alone made her heart jump. She was unbelievably shy when it came to the opposite . No matter the age, she would always choke up.

"Seunghyun, I'm not getting it. I'll stay out here, and wait," Jiyoung said, and leaned up against the wall only inches from her. Seunghyun sighed, and merely walked into the store.

Carter stole many side glances at the blond, but she couldn't find the courage to speak to him. She had to know where she knew him from. That darn curiosity, I tell ya.

'Where do I know him from? Is he famous? Nah, celebrities wouldn't show their faces in public. So where do I know him from?'

"Yah, is there a reason you keep looking at me?"

She looked to her right, and saw that the blond was looking at her. For some reason, she blushed. Her cheeks grew hot, and her heart thumped erratically against her chest.

"U-uh, I-um-" Then she found her answer.

"You're G-Dragon from BIGBANG, and that guy that went in the store was T.O.P, right?"

Jiyoung sighed, and nodded. "Yep, and I'm guessing you want our autographs, right?"

She frowned. Was that why he sighed? Just because he thought she was a fan of theirs?

"No, when you guys had walked past me, I was trying to think of where I knew you two from. I'm not a fan. I don't even listen to Kpop."

He rose both of his eyebrows. "You live here in Seoul, South Korea right?"

She nodded.

"Why don't you listen to Kpop?"

She shrugged. "I just don't find any point to. It's just music, and Kpop really isn't my taste in music. I'm more of a classical type of girl."

He nodded. "Okay. I can take that."

She shook her head, and looked down. The weather wasn't letting up, and Carter was getting worried. What was taking Min so long to get a box of cocoa, and a container of french vanilla?

"Yah, I didn't get your name."

She looked back at him weirdly. "Why would I tell you my name? I don't know you so you're practically a stranger you know," she replied.

He chucked, and his lips. "Still."

She rolled her eyes. "Carter. Carter Jackson."

He smiled. "Jiyoung. Kwon Jiyoung."

She smiled a little. "Happy?"

He nodded his head slightly. "A little."

She rose an eyebrow. "A little? What'd you-"

"Wanna have lunch Saturday? You seem like a really nice girl. Usually I'd never ask a fan out, but considering you're not a fan, I don't see any harm in asking you out."

She scoffed. "I don't date celebrities. Sorry," she directed her attention in front of her.

She then felt a strange warmth radiate from her right, and she saw that the guy had moved right beside her, and was looking at her with a boyish grin.

"Not all 'celebrities' are alike. Some are s, others are like real people. Considerate, and understanding."

She scoffed again. "I've seen the way you act, Jiyoung. You're nothing like how you are onscreen."

He put a hand over his heart, and fake gasped. "That's hurtful, and 100% untrue. But I don't care."

She rolled her eyes. "Right, and I hate babies."

He laughed sincerely. "That's pretty bad."

She couldn't help but laugh too. "Whatever," she moved from her leaned position, and began walking down the sidewalk. Jiyoung quickly followed after her.

"Where're you going?"

She looked at him, rolled her eyes, and looked back ahead. "Someplace nearby, and warm. Please don't follow me. I was doing just fine by myself."

He pouted slightly, then jumped in front of her, and smirked. Like he wanted, she stopped, and crossed her arms over her chest with an annoyed look.

"Look, I gave you my name, told you I hated babies, and where I'm going. What's your problem?"

"1. I'm fortunate enough to get your name. 2. That was untrue. 3. I'm not really interested in where you're going. I just want to get to know you better, and that can be rightfully done over lunch Saturday."

She sighed. "I told you. I don't date celebrities."

He took her hand from it's folded position across her chest, and held it to his heart. "And I told you I didn't care. It's better to get to know someone than assume that they're a bad person."

For a moment, she didn't pull her hand, then just when she realized that she was hesitating, she pulled away, and walked past him. He bit his lip, and followed after her. He liked a challenge. It was giving him something to do. Plus, he really liked her. She wasn't like other girls that fawned over him at his looks. She was resisting, and he loved every minute of it.

He pulled her closer to him by her waist, and leaned to where his lips were close to her ear. He felt her shiver only slightly, and that made him smirk.

"Stop resisting. One lunch won't kill you, you know," He whispered. She pushed him away, surprisingly without any real strength, and sighed heavily.

"I said no, okay? Why can't you take no for an answer?"

He stepped in front of her again, and pulled her close by, once again, her small waist. "Because I'm interested in you, girl. Your dark brown eyes are killing me, and that damn smile of yours is so angelic. I want to see you everyday I open my eyes. I want to tell you that you're beautiful every waking moment I'm with you. I've only known you for about ten minutes, and I already can't stand to not see your smile. Why can't you see that I'm falling hard for you, Carter?"

Her heart skipped a beat hearing her name on his tongue. "W-why me though? I'm not Korean. Idols don't even date outside of their race. Why would you take that chance?"

He smirked, and kissed her nose. "Because I'm GD baby. I don't follow the rules. I break them."

She giggled, and blushed. "Lunch. Saturday."

He smiled widely. "Seriously??"

She playfully rolled her eyes. "Sure."

He kissed her cheek, and hugged her tightly. "You won't regret it, I promise."

She hugged him, and smiled. "I hope not."
