Agate's Betrayal
Description
Chanyeol was brave enough to protect his kingdom, Baekhyun was brave enough to kill. Chanyeol was made brave by love, Baekhyun was made brave by his heartless soul. Two different forms of bravery manifest on the bloody battlefield as a single agate necklace turns two into one. But in a war between nations; in a war for glory, power, and survival, there exists no room for love. Here, there is only death, despair, and betrayal.
How far could bravery take you, when you only had one chance to make things right? Baekhyun didn't know if he would be able to kill the man that stood in his way, Chanyeol wasn't sure if he could stand to watch the enemy die.
Loyalty, love, bravery; what prevails in the final fight for life?
Foreword
Chanyeol clutched at Baekhyun, pulling the man into his grasp. Baekhyun tried to break free of Chanyeol's hold but failed; he was held tight against the chest of the man in front of him as the battle raged on around them. Screams came from the soldiers of both sides as blades ran through their bodies, blood dripped to the ground with soft platters, feeding an overflowing river of crimson, the dead fell to the earth with deafening thuds. But in the midst of it all, Baekhyun could only hear the rhythmic beat of Chanyeol's heart.
"Baekhyun," he heard Chanyeol whisper, the voice of the man breaking at the seams, "tell me, Baekhyun, why do I find you here? Why here of all places?" Baekhyun felt small droplets of water sting his bare neck and roll down his skin, staining his clothes. "Why, Baekhyun? Why?"
Baekhyun did not respond, for he had no good answer. He just kept very still as he let the enemy embrace him in the midst of battle. Just a few moments longer, just a few more precious moments and then he would force himself away. He couldn't afford to stay forever; Baekhyun had a duty to uphold. Part of that duty involved killing Park Chanyeol.
"I love you, Baekhyun. Please come away with me."
Desperately Baekhyun wanted to say yes, desperately he wanted to leave this bloody playing field and stay with no one but Chanyeol, the only man who could make warmth fill his body; the only man who could make him smile. But this was a war...and they were on opposite sides.

author's note
Should I be taking up another project in the midst of all my other ones? Probably not. But I wanted to enter this contest and I had a brilliant idea...so I did. Forgive me. Anyways, this is set in historical times, think Ancient China / Korea. I hope you enjoy the read, subscribe, upvote, comment.
(To fans of my writing who know I like writing Tao pairings, Tao has a key role in this story but this story will not include any of his pairings. The only pairing will be Baekyeol.)
