Elements are defined as powers and abilities which are not manmade. Not everyone possesses these powers. In fact, it is speculated that only one person can possess element at one time. When a holder of an element is incapable of using the element, it will be passed on to another.

At Shinkenji, the school provides a safe environment for those who are gifted with these elements to learn to use their powers.

Well, sort of.

Anyone who is admitted into those doors will have a chance to use the elements through ability cards. These cards will give the user an element for a limited time, with some restrictions of course. Because these elements can develop suddenly, the school admits several non-users who may potentially have an ability of their own. As these cards can be used by anyone, each student can carry only one at a time and additional cards are only given to students during classes.

The student council selects the best elemental users and they will represent the school’s authoritative forces in case of any incidents. There has been only one president so far and his name is Yabu Kota. He possesses the element of light. No, not the “light” that means the “goodness of all the universe” – “light” as in he can produce light. His job as the president is to recruit suitable members onto the council and to handle all situations, including situations involving the rebellion group, Kusamine.

Kusamine is a group of students under the leader, Takaki Yuya. The group’s main goal is to overthrow the school’s student council (which currently has only two members: the president and the vice-president) and change the school system so that only elemental users are allowed to study at the school, as well as claim the school’s most prized weapon (which is a mystery to all). Takaki and Yabu used to be close friends, but their troubled past together split their paths apart. The group is also looking for new members.

On top of that, there is an outside threat called The Z-Organization. All that we know from this organization is that they want to use elemental users for their own goals.
