Foreword

My name is Tachibana Risa, six-teen years old and a second year high schooler. I’m quiet and not many people realize my existence. I was badly bullied in middle school and elementary school because my parents passed away after I was born. I was constantly called a bad omen.

I was raised by my grandparents who always loved me and took care of me, but the day I turned five, my grandmother died of a sudden heart-attack. The rumors and whispers got worse. Relatives would always look at me with cold eyes and say that I cursed my family to death. They stayed away and avoided contact from me because they didn't want to get affected.

I was never invited to family gatherings. My grandfather was only invited on one condition, and that was to leave me at home. I didn't want him to cut off ties with his own children, so every time, I would see him off with a smile on my face, but I the inside, I was crying. Loneliness killed me.

During my first year of middle school, my distant cousins had started to spread things around. Saying things like I was cursed when I was born, killing both my parents and my grandmother. That I was the angel of death, sent down by God to punish humanity. Everyone stayed away from me. I cried myself to sleep most nights, but as i grew older, I got used to it. Sitting alone in class was no longer a big deal.

Girls from my class started coming up to me, I thought it was a good sign. They gave me hope, talking to me like normal classmates. Saying they didn't care about what they heard. I was happy. After the summer break, they turned their backs on me and gave me the cold shoulder. When I asked them what happened, they didn't say a word.
After that, I started finding my belongings in the bin. A loud corridor would become quiet with my appearance. So quiet, I could hear a pin drop in the staff room behind closed doors.

It killed me. I had no faith in anything anymore. I started to avoid everything and refused to go to school. For my third year of middle school, I stayed home and was home schooled. I attended an entrance exam for a high school further away where no one would know me, hoping I could start anew. And that was when everything changed.
