Chapter 13

Pursuit of Parallel Happiness

Disaster.

The only word I would use to sum up the night.

Oh scratch that. There should be an adjective in front of that word.

Let’s see.

A total disaster. Nope.

An utter disaster. Not really.

A ing disaster. Yeah, let’s go with that.

“I… I… panicked… Alright?!” She broke the silence. “And the only name I could think of other than Kim Taeyeon was Jessica.”

“Shush! My head need some alone time with the table.” I put up my hand to signal her to shut up as my forehead continued to bond with the table. I have been bonding with the table since we got home from that disastrous dinner.

What now?

Yes, I am totally having a conversation with myself in my head. I was not sure if I could stop myself from killing her if I were to hear another word from her.

So here’s the situation. Tiffany loves Taeyeon but she somehow confessed to loving Jessica, who is with Yuri. And now, Taeyeon thinks Tiffany loves Jessica when she is actually in love with Taeyeon. Great. Just great.

“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” I groaned in frustration.

Oh God, What did I do to get into this mess?

“Are you okay?” she asked worriedly.

I finally separated my head from the table and glared at her.

“I think I shall leave you alone with the table.” She said timidly and retreated into her room.

YEAH, YOU DO THAT. HELLFANY is IN the house.

“AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” I groaned again as I let my forehead hit the table.

The fact that the next day was Monday had no help at all. Monday blues coupled with the disastrous sequence of events led me into doing what I do best at such situations – run away from reality and sleep myself into denial. And then, I realized such drastic measures were not necessary since technically, I was not the one who screwed up.

So I picked myself up, yet again, and head down to where T is working. Stalking the love of my life the target of my operation to undo my regrets seemed to be the only thing I could think of. I figured that I need to at least know what she was thinking to plan for the next course of action. The disastrous dinner had ended awkwardly since Taeyeon’s only reply was “Oh.” and the rest was inconsequential.

Nerdy glasses. Check.

Fully buttoned shirt. Check.

Last minute compilation of what comic Tiffany likes. Check.

Today’s horoscope. Ugh, I forgot.

I fished out my phone to check using a prepaid card I bought earlier. Good thing they were not using some weird technologies around here.

‘Although you are often willing to do anything rather than admit to having passionate feelings for someone, you may not be able to help yourself, especially with today's alignment of the planets. You may have been hoping that the person in question would admit to their feelings first, as this is by far the safer route; then you can choose your response accordingly.’

“Tsk, yeah whatever. I tried that already and guess what? That was an epic failure.” I muttered to myself sarcastically.

“What was an epic failure?” a voice from behind asked.

Startled, I quickly closed the app and put the phone back into my pocket in one swift action.

“Woah, why so secretive?” the voice asked again.

“Erm just checking my horoscope.” I smiled awkwardly, slightly embarrassed but realised that it should help with my cover.

“Oh okay.” Taeyeon shrugged. “Why are you here anyway?”

“Oh about that… Lunch?”

-

“So, what do you want to talk to me about?” Taeyeon dived right in as she started to clean the utensils for us at the eatery. A meticulous Taeyeon is always charming.

“Why? I didn’t say anything.” I retorted, wondering how she knew I was up to something.

“Ha, right. We had dinner together just last night and you turn up today only for lunch?” she teased. “Sure, let’s just eat and don’t talk about anything.”

Is it me or she seemed hostile today? I thought as I took the utensils she handed to me.

“Alright, you got me there.” I gave up and saw a smirk on her face.

“So… What do you think about what I said last night?” My question immediately wiped her smirk off her face as her face fell.

“We both know Jessica is happy with Yuri so I guess the only advice I can give you is ‘Don’t do anything that you will regret.’ But that being said, the matters of the heart isn’t something easy to get over.” She sighed.

“Meaning?”

She frowned at the question.

“Perhaps you can test waters to see how she feels about you and if that doesn’t turn out well, you know you can move on.” She seemed to have put a lot of thought into it.

“I mean if you don’t try something, you will probably hold on to some hope that perhaps she feels the same and not be able to move on." She continued and muttered the last part under her breath. "Wifcoanifeorolmearnedfiss”"

“Sorry, I didn’t catch the last part.” I gave her a confused look.

“Nothing important.” She looked back up and shook her head.

“So how do I do that?” I was curious of what she would do.

“I don’t know, ask her out or something.” She seemed reluctant to suggest anything.

“Uhuh.” I cocked an eyebrow at the rather ambiguous suggestion.

“Sorry, I just…” she sighed and did not finish the sentence.

At the same time, the food came and she seemed relieved. We continued to eat in silence as I stole glances at her now and then. The atmosphere was cold and I was kind of bothered by how quiet she was.

After a while, she seemed to have noticed the silence.

“You can take her out alone and do something what couples normally do and see how she reacts?”

“Like what?” I probed further, trying hard to suppress a smile. I was touched at how she tried to help although she seemed bothered about the idea, perhaps feeling guilty to Yuri. It was however, disappointing that she did not show any sign that she was going to fight for Tiffany.

“Buy her flowers, hold her hand, make her lunch, feed her, buy her a souvenir for remembrance, set up a romantic dinner, you know, all that cheesy stuff you see on TV.” She replied monotonously.

I sighed inwardly as I thought I was going nowhere with this. However, an idea suddenly struck me and I couldn’t help but smiled widely at that thought.

“What?” She asked with a hint sadness in her eyes.

I was taken aback by her tone but I didn’t give it much thought.

“You, me, Saturday, 10am, amusement park.”

“Huh?”

“Practice makes perfect. You will help me right?” I gave her my puppy eyes.

She was about to reject the idea when I pouted. “Pweeeasseee?!!!”

“Fine.” She finally gave in.

Patient, generous and giving, not matter which Taeyeon you are. How can I move on and not fall further for you, Taeyeon-ah?

-

I smiled to myself as I thought of my plan in my head. The only thing I need now is to get the other Tiffany to act on the plan and not screw up.

Now that I thought about it, I wondered how I was to tell her that I met Taeyeon behind her back. Considering how possessive I was, I couldn’t help but worried about how the other Tiffany was going to react and still be receptive of my idea.

I probably should fix that jealous part of me.

My thoughts were interrupted by the house phone which I had gone to fixed in the morning since I broke it.

“Hello?”

“Hey, just nice, I have something to talk to you about.” I said once I recognised the voice.

“Oh yeah, me too and I believe mine is more important.”

“I doubt it. I went to see Taeyeon just now.” I went straight for the kill, thinking its better earlier than later.

“Oh.”

“That’s it?” I asked worriedly.

“Erm, I probably owe you one.” She said timidly.

“Huh? Why?”

“I kind of told Jessica what I did yesterday.” She hesitantly replied. “And I told her I am home. She should be there any minute.”

“Wait what?!”

“Yeah… Sorry?” The apology sounded like a question.

“YAH, what do you mean by she’s com-“ my question was cut off by a not-so-friendly hammering of the door.

Uhoh.
