Behind The Twinkle

Baby Maybe

A week later

Seohyun met up Junhee at that cafe they met up before due to another text.

It feels like forever since they met up for the first time.

So much happened since then. Namely, Yonghwa wasn't here anymore.

As Junhee slid in to the seat in front of her, she managed to smile at Seohyun.

"Hello, unnie," Junhee said, still the envelope.

"Hello, Junhee."

They were silent for a while until Junhee broke the silence.

"I should thank you. You stayed by Yonghwa's side."

"... I have nothing to be proud of." Seohyun said.

"Even if you were a little late, Yonghwa oppa smiled when he died. For that, I'm grateful." Junhee sipped her coffee.

"Why did you call me here today? I"m sure not to just tell me that."

"You're right. I have a gift for you." She hands her an envelope.

"What's this?"

"It's either your last bit of happiness or a curse to make you hate yourself for the rest of your life."

"Which one do you want it to be?"

"...I'll be honest with you. I really don't care if it's the later."

Seohyun the envelope.

"It's from Yonghwa oppa."

Seohyun's fingers stopped moving. She stared at it in shock.

"One more thing, unnie."

"Yes?"

"Yonghwa oppa's in the river now."

"What?!"

"We burned him. His ashes are floating along a river now."

"What? No," Seohyun began to cry.

Junhee, who expected this, patted Seohyun on the back.

Seohyun's hand slapped her away.

"Yonghwa oppa, he hates hot things! How can you burn him? He can't swim, either!"

"Unnie-"

"Now where will I go to visit him if I get lonely? How will I even get close to seeing him?"

"Unnie! That's not the point of this story! The point is, we had to take out all the metal and stuff before we burned him."

"And?"

"His other hand, the one that wasn't holding yours, had two things that needed to be taken away. He was grasping it so tightly we had to get two other  people to get it away."

"What was in his hand?"

"At first, we unclenched it to take off the ring," Junhee said, showing her their couple ring.

Seohyun looked miserable and took off her ring. Then she remembered something and put it back on.

"Oppa, I promise I will never ever take this ring off." 16 year old Seohyun said as she slipped on their ring for the first time.

"I promise you I will keep our couple ring forever." Yonghwa smiled at Seohyun.

Junhee stared curiously.

"Nothing, a promise," Seohyun muttered.

"Then, when  we unclenched his fist, we found this."

Junhee slides something across the table, and when Seohyun catches it, her hand shakes.

It's her hairpin.

"Unnie, Yonghwa oppa loved you. It doesn't matter what mistakes you made. He loved you the whole time."

Seohyun nodded sadly and started to rip open the envelope.

"No!"

Seohyun stared at Junhee.

"You...you might want to read that alone. You don't want to make a scene." Junhee nodded toward the people around them.

"Alright...Junhee, is what's in the letter that bad?"

"...I don't know, unnie. Yonghwa oppa told me only you can read it."

"And you kept that promise? Didn't the curiousty eat you?"

"...It was the least I can do. It was his last wish." Junhee stood up.

"I have shooting now, so I have to go, but unnie..." Junhee looked like she wanted to say something else.

"What?" Seohyun asked.

"No matter what the letter says...don't..kill yourself or anything....Nothing's your fault..." Junhee ran out of the cafe.

Seohyun was seriously starting to be scared to open up the envelope.

Junhee told her it might become nightmare if she opened the envelope up.

Her worst nightmare..

She opened the envelope.

"Wow! That was quite a performance!" MCs of MusicBank said.

"Yeah, but stick around, because we have amazing performances comting up!"

"Coming up next is SeoHyun ssi with her new single!"

"I heard she went for a total change from her previous song, Baby Maybe!"

"Expressing the sadness of breaking up, here's Seohyuh ssi!"

Seohyun sat down in a chair in the stage unlike Baby Maybe, which was a dance song.

Everyone gasped in surprise when they saw she had a guitar with her.

"I learned how to play from my boyfriend. He's also the one that wrote the lyrics for this song. I want to thank him for this."

The audience was silent.

"For everything." Seohyun said.

She took a deep breath and began to sing.

"You more than me," She whispered at the end. She ran off the stage.

The audience was shocked.

"Hey, Seohyun ssi?" The PD went to the backstage.

"Are you okay?"

Seohyun was crying. "I'm sorry," Seohyun whispered.

"Seohyun ssi, it's fine. You did fine, it's just a little incident at end of the song."

"I.. can't sing this song." Seohyun whispered.

"It'll be fine." The PD went outside again to manage other singers.

Seohyun unfolded the letter in her pocket.

"Oppa, were you listening?" Seohyun said to herself.

No. To Yonghwa.

"Oppa, I'm so sorry. I still need you to remind me that I'm loved. I was an idiot."

She paused.

"Oppa, you do have a happy ending. Because the Beast might not be here right now, but Belle loves him."

She paused again.

"Do you know the marriage vow? I will love you as long as I live?"

She waited for an answer that wasn't there.

"That never made sense to me. Because I will love you even after I die."

Seohyun stared at the ceiling.

"Are you still mad at me? Is that why you aren't talking to me?"

Seohyun stared at the letter again.

"It's okay. I understand if you don't want to talk. But oppa, I love you."

She folded the letter again.

She went to the makeup table and opened the cabinet. She her couple ring, which was on her hand.

She left Yonghwa's ring inside her cabinet.

Huh?

It was gone.

"No!" Seohyun cried out. She searched the area around the table, but found nothing.

"Excuse me?"

"Yes?" The janitor replied.

"Did you happen to throw away the ring in this cabinet?"

The janitor shook his head.

Seohyun kept searching, but she found nothing.

She opened up the cabinet one more time.

She was focused on finding the ring that she didn't notice the piece of paper in the corner of the cabinet.

She unfolded it quickly.

She read it.

She fell to the floor.

The staff rushed to her side, helping her stand up. They tried to tallk to her, but she couldn't hear anything.

Nothing mattered.

She was crying, half out of joy, and half out of sadness.

The paper read:

I'm always listeing to you.

I'm always watching you.

I will always love you.

Yonghwa aka Beast

A/N Yes. I went down the spiritual road. It's not like Yonghwa's ghost will magically come back, but that was too sweet not to put in.

I hope you're enjoying the story! Please comment!

I'm thinking about two or more chapters. Keep reading till the end!
