Chapter 10

Guest

  Dear Diary,

I have never felt used my whole life.

This new guy, Kyuhyun, the one from the accident, I brought home the other night is doing things to me.

I feel like he’s controlling me. Have I told you of mind-control before?

It’s when someone is able to bend your will through mind games. Those who mind control have a talent where they could use words to convince people they were acting on their own cognizance. He does this to me all the time. I don’t know how or why he does it, but I’m beginning to questions truths. Therefore, expect me to write a lot in you. I don’t want to forget things he want me to forget.

Gotta run,

Donghae smiled warmly at their guest playing with Angelica at her bed. His grin alone was enough to make the occassionally sullen kid sqeaul with laughter. It was both atshonishing and groundbreakingly new knowledge to Angelica’s primary parent.

“I didn’t know a fourteen-days old could laugh already.”  Donghae appoarched Angelica’s bed with a big smile.

“Oh, Daddy is here Angi, say hi,” Kyuhyun cooed at the baby and carried on with their poking game.  He looked up and held Donghae’s gaze briefly before returning to peek-a-booing Angelica. Donghae couldn’t help but smile bigger.

“I think it’s a natural habit for us human beings to laugh,” Kyuhyun declared after a moment. “Some of us are just born happy, like this happy little one right here.” He poked at her side and she squeaked out giggles. Kyuhyun laughed too and then bent down to kiss her.

Now that he had the chance, Donghae studied Kyuhyun’s face up-close. First, he noticed that Kyuhyun possessed an exceptionally attractive face. The space between his eyes was wide but his thick eyebrows framed them perfectly with his long nose. He owned a pair of thick lips that were rosy and sinfully inviting, Donghae did not want to think about them or who they were kissing these days. Having heard the guy was already seeing his brother, he didn’t want images to go with it. Kyuhyun’s gaze deemed profoundly disturbing when he was not speaking or smiling. But when he did speak or smile, his high cheekbones would lift a little higher and make his gaze look more childish and innocent.

Donghae liked his smile. He’d admit it is attractive if he had to.

Not that he was after the kid or anything, but Kyuhyun held too much depth in him, almost as he’d been around for ages. Donghae crack a smile and looked embarrassed to even think it. Kyuhyun couldn’t be a day above twenty, it didn’t make sense he existed longer than this.

“What?” Kyuhyun’s tone implied, Something funny? But he was still smiling so Donghae didn’t have to run for the door.

“Nothing, it’s just, you look very young but you feel strangely old,” Donghae said. “You aren’t a vampire, are you?” It was Kyuhyun’s turn to laugh then. He shook his head. “But the fair skin and your eyes… I’ll have to test sunlight on you just to be sure.” Donghae chuckled and bent down to lift the yawning Angelica. “But vampires wouldn’t be good with babies, would they?” he asked of pure curiosity which made Kyuhyun chuckle again and shrug. “I have no idea, hyung, would they?”

Donghae too shrugged. “We should look into it, see what the old myths tell us.” He walked over to a huge armchair and started rocking Angelica to sleep. In no time, the girl’s lips parted and she was in dreamland.

Kyuhyun stared unblinking, he watched Donghae get up again to put the baby in her bed, and then said, “Wow, you’re actually good at this. Like a real Mom.”

“Thanks.” The word came out of Donghae’s mouth breathlessly, and his expression turned grim.

“I’m sorry,” Kyuhyun quickly added. “I didn’t mean to offend you. I know you’re no less of a parent than a mother is.”

Donghae turned and held his gaze for a moment. “Had dinner yet?”

“No.” Kyuhyun sounded upset, like he’d just lost his appetite. Donghae stepped back with a sheepish expression that had Kyuhyun wide-eyed.

“You’re actually a vampire because vampires don’t eat, right? And you know what? I think vampires are very good with babies too because it makes sense they would nurse them and watch them grow and when they do, they’ll turn them and have them join their twisted blood- clans. No offense.”

“None taken.”

“Great. Come eat with us, then, show me you’re not a bloodthirsty monster so I can allow you around Angelica more often.” A little color came back to Kyuhyun’s cheeks, and his smile was back like sunlight on a cloudy day. Kyuhyun blinked. “Okay.”

“Follow me, then.” Donghae set off and Kyuhyun followed him down the stairs. On the stairs, Kyuhyun tensed and stood his ground. It was a little while until he reached the ground floor where Donghae stood waiting. When Kyuhyun finally made it to the ground floor, Donghae clapped him on the back and whispered. “What kind of bloodsucking monster is scared of an old, rundown house like this?”

“The kind that doesn’t live in a coffin.” Kyuhyun swallowed and looked back at the stairs behind him. It made eye contact with him before it disappeared. He was sure it did.

As the two entered the kitchen, Eunhyuk thumped away at his temper ball. He made a noise when he noticed the kid with the kind-looking face which he neither liked nor trusted.

“Kyuhyun-ssi, you finally joined us,” said Eunhyuk, for lack of better things to say.

Kyuhyun grunted. “I did. Only because Donghae hyung insisted though.”

“Why? Are you too good for us that we can’t even eat on the same table? Should we leave you eat and come back another time?”

“Babe.” Donghae shot his lover a warning look and pointed at the cabin. Reluctantly, Eunhyuk let out a sigh and strode over to retrieve an extra plate for the guest. Placing the plate in front of Kyuhyun who gracefully took his place on the table, Eunhyuk assessed him with an intent gaze. This made Kyuhyun chuckle, brushing off any intimidating vibes Eunhyuk was trying to send his way.

“Something funny?” Eunhyuk hissed in a hushed tone, glad his lover was distracted with the broken microwave.

Kyuhyun rested both of his elbows on the table and leaned his face closer to Eunhyuk. “I don’t like you too hyung-nim, but you don’t see me sneering at you every time you pass by,” he whispered. “Let’s not try to plot each other’s death, hyung-nim. I really would like for us to get along, especially since I am living here now.”

Eunhyuk narrowed his eyes at him and was about to knock some facts straight into Kyuhyun’s thick head when Donghae called him over to help with the microwave. Kyuhyun flashed him a toothy grin before he turned towards his lover. Eunhyuk just frowned. He didn’t think the kid actually had it in him to speak back to his senior, let alone draw the lines.

Beside his lover, Eunhyuk jabbed his thumb backwards. “He thinks he’s staying here longer. Any ideas where he might have got that sort of invitation?” When Donghae didn’t answer, Eunhyuk lost interest in the conversation and started fixing the door to the microwave. Eunhyuk surely wanted Kyuhyun out as quickly as possible, but it was obvious everyone else adored the stranger, contrary to what he felt.

There was something about this guy that irked him. Something regarding Kyuhyun seemed awfully dangerous—murderous even. Eunhyuk stared at the back of Kyuhyun’s head, watching him watch every move his lover made as he moved around the kitchen. He was checking him out, though he knew he had a fiancé and a little less-than-a-month old girl. Donghae had a family, yet this Kyuhyun guy didn’t seem to care if he’d destroy it. This exactly is what pissed him off.

Eunhyuk went back to his seat beside Kyuhyun just in time to see the other his bottom lip at the sight of Donghae squatting by the oven. He’d look down Kyuhyun’s lap but he didn’t want to confirm what he already thought he’d see there, so he sat down and leaned in, whispering harshly. “Are you mentally spanking my fiancé, right now?”

“I might be,” Kyuhyun mused with a smile. He turned towards Eunhyuk and blinked before saying, “do yourself a favor and stop monitoring everything I do. I don’t want your feelings hurt, hyung. Not that it really matters,” he whispered the last part.

Eunhyuk swallowed. This kid was shameless, and all of a sudden he ran out of threats to say. Donghae joined them at the table with a delicious smelling steak. The salads and everything else was on the table, by then and soon they all started to eat.

Dinner was painfully quiet. Thankfully Eunhyuk contained his rage through it and did not end up shaking. After dinner, Plates where in the sink and Eunhyuk rolled up his sleeves then flipped the tap open. Kyuhyun just sat there until Donghae asked him to go check on Angelica before they had desserts. He watched him leave and then crept up behind Eunhyuk and planted a kiss on his nape as he hugged him from behind. Eunhyuk didn’t say or do anything, just continued to wash away at the plates.

“Anxious much?” Donghae whispered and tried kissing another spot a little closer to the back of Eunhyuk’s ear.

Agony echoed through Eunhyuk’s thoughts but he couldn’t be mad at Donghae for more than a minute. “He was eating you up with his eyes,” he said in a low voice. “He could be to your photo in Angelica’s room right now, and you don’t want me to be anxious.” His pain softened a little when Donghae’s arms tightened around him and another soft kiss brushed his bare shoulder. Eunhyuk sighed. “I know I don’t have to worry—it’s not him you’re trying to marry—that much I know. But he says things… he just pisses me off and I can’t wait for him to leave already. I don’t want him around my family, Donghae. You don’t want him either, you know that.”

“He doesn’t have a place to go to. The police are searching after him, and nothing came in yet. We all just have to be patient, babe. Besides, it’s not me the one he’s hunting after, you know he and Donghwa are almost dating now. Just today, I saw them cuddle outside on the couch.” Donghae appeared more amused than alarmed, and it annoyed Eunhyuk but he didn’t speak out his mind on it. Instead he turned in his lover’s embrace and stared into his eyes until every drop of his anger subsided. Shaking his head, he kissed his lover on the lips and moved away.

From the corner split in the doorframe, someone found the fondness of the couple utterly repulsive. The figure casted a look of regret towards the kitchen before it followed the man with the temper up the stairs.

I am not sure if you'll ever finish, but this was incredibly creepy. All the suspense and just... wow. I can't even express into words how good this is. Every little element is amazing. I will say this though. I know he wanted to start over, but moving into a run-down, creepy, probably haunted house after everything he had been through... seriously... lol. I know it was part of your story plan, but I couldn't help but think if I was Donghae, I'd move to a bright house in a place the sun was always shining or for the love of God, hire an exorcist first.
