“Ne,Sachiko, what do you think about people who have a lover?”
It was 3 pm and the weather outside the library was cold and windy. They were in the middle of the winter, after all. The university library was full with college students that, because of the bitter cold, decided to lock themselves in that quite building near the university branch. Some of theme were reading books, other, instead, were drinking the cheap coffee of the vending machine in little sips and chatting with their friends, pretending to study. Umi was turning her civil law book pages in an annoying way, waiting her friend to pay attention to her just for a little bit. But her friend seemed more interested in her note book than her. Sachiko tapped her pan on the table and, sligty, she glanced at Umi.
“Why are you asking something about love to a single?”
Umi just shrugged her shoulders, pretending to pay attention to her book.
“No reason in particular. I just want to know your opinion, that’s it.”  said Umi. It was raining outside and the rain was dripping on the window. Sachiko stayed silence for a little bit, wondering if she wanted to close her book or gossip with her friend.
“Well, If someone cheat on her boyfriend with someone else it means that boyfriend isn’t that good to her. I mean, maybe that boy is a pain in the back.” Said Sachiko, closing her huge book.
“You know, I know someone who has a lover. Her boyfriend isn’t a pain in the back, though. She loves her lover and her boyfriend in the same way. How can I say it? She’s in love with two men at the same time.” Murmured Umi, watching a couple that were running behind a library shelf. “Everything is ok between them but she has another man indeed.”
“How long have they been dating?”
Umi thought a little bit before answer her. She leaned her back on the back of her chair, styling her hair in a ponytail, just for doing something with her hands.
“Three years, more or less.”
“And with the other guy?” said Sachiko in an nasty voice. She loved gossips as hell. Umi laid her eyes on the ceiling of the room, thinking hard.
“Just one year, perhaps.”
Sachiko struggled to hold her laughter, not willing to be kick out of the library.
“Why she didn’t dump her boyfriend yet?”
“Maybe because she has no reason to do it.”
Sachiko glanced at her, biting the top of her pan.
“Ne, who the hell is that silly girl?”
Umi took a book out of her school bag, shaking her head.
“You don’t know her. She’s just a girl.”
She ended the conversation like that, leaving Sachiko without words.
She wanted to tell her that “that silly girl” was her.
