Writing Guide: Popular vs Good and Rants

Description

Just sharing some writing tips. Most of them are going to be about plot development/ characters/ how to come up with ideas etc.

I will not share grammar tips, please refer to your school books =P

I'm going to rant about AFF once in a while but it will be incorporated in the main text, there might be a few separate rant chapters.

Warning: Might contain typos and bad jokes + cursing.

Why do I want to post this guide?

Because I believe that some review shops and writing guides around here are actually taking the whole fanfiction way too seriously and don't know how to appreciate it correctly. Please, do not kill me for this opinion; I have every right to state it openly. I do think that there are really good writing guides and review shops around here.

How is my guide different?

Well, maybe it won't be so different. But I can say in all honesty, that I am going to concentrate more on "what does it mean to be an author" and "what does it mean to be a good author" than "how to be a great author" or common writing tips. See, there is going to be a lot more what and way less how (mainly because there are a lot of good hows around here already, but barely any whats).

Let's take writing on a more philosophical level, shall we? Don't worry, my posts will be mostly short (maybe) and full of sarcastic humor, nothing too heavy.

Got any questions?

Feel free to contact me in any way if you want to consult someone about your writing. I'll be glad to help.

Ps. I don't own any gifs I use here. I found them on tumblr.

Foreword

Some information about me:

Well, I am a sarcastic bitter person, in a comedic way though. I'm not going to bash anything or anyone here (I'm merely making fun of things) but I am going to be blunt and honest. I hope no one takes anything I write here too seriously.

I have been writing and reading (not only fanfiction but also BOOKS, I mean reading books not writing books) since I was in elementary school so I believe I have some good advices to share, I also attended a writing club for 4 years (the teachers there were writers). I’m not saying I’m a writing genius and it’s not like I ever made it big, but I believe I have some great ideas to share and I hope this guide will be helpful for every striving writer out here.

Chapter 5: It was really insightful, the way you said 'good' is how you define it, and that an ambitious plot is useless if the writer doesn't have the skills to colour the story in...
P.S. Lovie, it's Tolstoy with a y, not i. : )

Chapter 7: I think that you should do a reviewer workshop just cause some reviewer only give harsh critics but fail in helping writers to write better and show them how they should correct their mistake instead. Its all just 'your story is boring, I didn't even finish it so 8/100' poor those writers (like me)

Chapter 17: Emoticons in stories are the most annoying things ever, the story loss all appeal to me when it has emoticons.

To be honest, there is no right way to use emoticons.

Chapter 10: yessh, the 'never unsubscribe' rules killed me ;_; it just added the clutter in my subscription list and i get notified for update for other person's request (which is completely unimportant)
i have to wait until there's 'complete' sign appear beside the title of the shop on my subscription list, and my reaction: "finally!! freedoooom!" *unsubscribe*
