Marriage?! (Numero Uno)

Boys over Towers

It was half past 2 and they were still at the lounge, even after Baekhyun’s attemps to escape back to the classroom. He wanted to graduate and skipping class wasn’t really something a serious student would do.

And as if suddenly, a bunch of men in black suits and black shades had bust through the door, quickly surrounding every corner of the room.

“Oh, why are you guys here?” Tao asked as the men froze in their tracks.

Baekhyun sat amazed at the synchronization of movements of each man, it was like they were actually frozen and not even a shiver could make them move (a more advanced species of the students in the cafeteria.)

“We are advised to bring you back to the mansion, Sir.” One man had stepped up and bowed respectfully towards Tao’s direction.

Tao raised and eyebrow and was staring back at the man. “Who advised you? I’m in school right now.” He crossed his legs, obviously not in favor of returning home any time soon.

“Your father requests your presence.” Baekhyun could see Tao’s face twist into more annoyance, but he had brush the expression off and had stood up.

“Well, whatever. See you guys tomorrow.” Tao said as he followed the men who were filing out of the room.

“I wonder was up?” Jongin said with curiosity. “Tao’s dad never asks to see him.” Baekhyun thought that was the saddest thing he’s ever heard in his life. “Why wouldn’t his dad want to see him? Isn’t that sad?” he was frowning.

“Dude, it’s alright. I barely get to see my dad anymore either.” Jongin was chuckling to himself. “Neither do Kris and Yixing. Luhan, on the other hand, is always babied by his parents. Something to do with how adorable he was.” Jongin was already laughing, gaining dirty looks from the blonde boy.

“You guys wanna go check?” Yixing had stood up from where he was standing and was walking towards the door. “Yeah, let’s go. I’m bored anyway.” Luhan said as he finally stood up from Sehun’s lap and picked him up by the arm. “Let’s go Sehun.” Luhan said in a sing-song voice.

“Since when was your relationship that deep that you actually sit on his lap?” Yixing asked, kind of wary.

“It’s for me to know and for you not to find out, right Sehun?” Luhan gave him a big smile, and Sehun could just nod in fear.

It looked more like Luhan was forcing Sehun against his will, but Baekhyun could only send a “fighting!” in the exasperated Sehun’s direction.

Baekhyun was pushed into Chanyeol’s highly familiar expensive black car while the other had taken their own ride (Sehun being forcibly dragged into Luhan’s white limo.)

“Wait, were you following me with this car not long ago?” He had recognized the car from last time. “Yeah.” Chanyeol said plainly.

“You’re… weird.” Baekhyun sighed as he obediently went inside the car and sat at the edge of the limo.

The limo stretched a bit too far, making Baekhyun grumble rich bastard under his breath.

Chanyeol sat beside him, a big smile still plastered on his face. “To Huang Zitao’s residence.” He shouted towards the driver and they took off.

The ride to Tao’s house wasn’t the long, but Baekhyun could feel the ground rise as the car went up a steep hill. “I-Is this thing going to hold?” Baekhyun felt panic. He felt like the limo was going to flip over and roll down, crushing him, Chanyeol and the driver in.

“Don’t worry, it wont. Gravity wont let it.” Chanyeol said as he wrapped an arm around Baekhyun’s back. “Would you please stop touching me?” Except, he was already used to the tower’s constant touchy gestures, and didn’t seem to get that bothered by it. But now, since they were only 2 centimeters away, he couldn’t help but feel a bit conscious of the bigger boy’s movements.

“We’re here.” The driver said as the limo door opened up. Chanyeol got out first, his image a lot more stunning when the sunlight had clashed against his school uniform.

As Baekhyun got out, he couldn’t help but let his jaw drop at the sight of the house. It was styled into one of the traditional Chinese homes, making it stick out of its Korean surroundings. A stone hedge was wrapping around the home, and inside was a home that looked like a Buddhist temple. It was obviously meant to look like the ancient temples and or houses back in the dynasty era, but it almost looked brand new.

Luhan saw the expression Baekhyun was making and chuckled. “Tao’s house isn’t over a hundred years old, it’s actually just around 11 or 12 years old. His dad moved to Seoul and wanted to make it as Chinese as possible, so he build an ancient looking home from scratch.”

Baekhyun felt himself unconsciously gulp. They were walking into the house when he noticed that the house was farther than it seemed, the lawn probably stretching at least a hundred yards. The lawn was graced with several botanical plants, potted and planted into the ground.

“Close your mouth, you’re going to catch flies.” Kris said as he confidently passed Baekhyun and the group, walking towards the door.

“Oh, Kris practically lives here.” Jongin said as he watched Kris hurriedly waltz into the house, looking like it was his own.

Kris had disappeared into the house, that seemed quite bigger on the inside. Baekhyun was mentally preparing himself for probably another expensive looking house, just as Luhan’s. This house was probably around the same size as Luhan’s.

Once they had all gotten to the front door, they spotted Kris leaning against one of the doors deep in the house. “Shhhhh.” He said as he put a finger to his mouth.

All the boys had put their ear against the door, casually eavesdropping like it was the most normal thing in the world.

“…Zitao, are you opposing your father?” They heard an unfamiliar voice say from across the other room. “…No, Father.” Tao said.

“Then, you’re going to get married to Chunhua in a week.” The boys had eyed each other after hearing the word marriage.

“W-what? Tao’s getting married?!” Jongin whispered towards the boys who had the most confused looks on their faces, probably quite enough for the people on the other side of the door to hear.

“Who’s there?” Tao’s father had shouted, making the boys fall to their knees. Suddenly, the door had opened, revealing Tao sitting across the room, a girl right across him.

“T-Tao!” Yxing exclaimed, trying to lift himself up from the mess. “What’s going on?” Kris said as he stood up, eyebrows forming its somehow natural “V” shape.

“K-Kris?” Tao stuttered, standing up to carefully look up at the angry looking boy.

“Oh, Kris, long time no see.” Tao’s father gave him a smile and handed his hand out for Kris to shake. Kris, being the respectful boy he was, immediately returned the handshake and bowed politely. “It’s been a while, Mr. Huang. Please pardon our rudeness; we wanted to come see if Zitao was alright. He seemed to have left abruptly, and we were worried.”

“Oh, he’s alright. In fact, he has just agreed to marry my daughter!” a man who had a beard longer than Baekhyun’s own plastic ruler said as he turned to the boys. “In fact, you’re all invited!”

Baekhyun was surprised, but not as surprised as everyone else. It was common for rich people to get engaged right? “What?” Luhan bit his lower lip.

“It’s in a week, so please make sure you can come.” Tao’s father was giving them a smile, definitely something Tao has never give them.

“C-can we take Tao back to school now?” Chanyeol said, even he was frightened by the old man’s announcement. Tao’s father game him a nod and Tao quickly stood up and left the room.

They were silent the whole walk through the garden, they were taking this a lot harder than Baekhyun, who thought it was a normal thing.

“Let’s all… ride my car.” Kris exhaled as he jumped into the longest car Baekhyun has ever seen. Everyone had followed Kris’ example and got in, with Jongin the last to get in.

The car ride was painfully quiet. It was the first time Baekhyun had seen this side of the boys, not laughing their asses off but instead eerily quiet.

“So, what do you think of my house?” Tao shot a look towards Baekhyun. He looked like he was pleading for him to help him out, and Baekhyun didn’t know how he could.

“I-It was big. The botanical gardens are beautiful, I haven’t seen one like it in my entire life!” Baekhyun’s attemp was in vain when no one bothered to enter the conversation. He put his head down and could hear Tao exhale.

“Alright, guys. I know we made a vow and everything but… I couldn’t say no to my dad.” Tao finally said as put his head down.

“Yeah? Tell that to me who had painfully rejected his dad of an arranged marriage!” Kris shouted. Baekhyun had never seen Kris so mad, especially not towards Tao. His shout sent fear creeping throughout the heavy atmosphere, even Luhan felt the fear of Kris’ wrath as well.

“Oh God, Kris. Stop being a whiny baby.” Tao bit his lip. He obviously didn’t want to say that to Kris’ face. All Kris could do was turn his head in frustration. “Stop.” He shouted to the driver.

The car stopped and Kris got out from it. Baekhyun saw Tao trying to say something as Kris exited through the door, but he had painfully kept to himself.

“Aren’t you going to go after him?” Baekhyun managed to say in Tao’s direction. This was the first time he had ever instigated a conversation with Tao, and he never thought it’d be like this.

“N-no, I’m not. Let him sulk all he wants.” He could feel Tao swallow hard. “God Tao, go after him!” It was Jongin who was shouting at Tao now. Tao flinched at the sudden shout of the boy, and bit his lip. “Weren’t you the one who held unrequited feelings for Kris all this time? Why are you suddenly being an ?!”

If Tao could slump further into the seat and disappear, he would. He felt like a total , but his father’s wishes were still his number one priority. “I-I’m not…” he sighed.

“Whatever. I’m going home.” Jongin said as he got out from the car. Luhan threw a last look at Tao and sighed, following suit with a confused Sehun in his grasp. Yixing exasperatedly shrugged and got his cellphone out while trying to get out of the car, mumbling the words yeah, get my car out. Near the Huang residence.

“Come on Baekie.” Chanyeol too, was a bit flustered. He and Baekhyun had got out of the car, leaving a conflicted Tao.

“Why is everyone so mad?” Baekhyun asked Chanyeol as they sat at a nearby bench, waiting for Chanyeol’s car.

“Well, when we formed the MK, we made rules that we vowed to keep. One of them was not get an arranged marriage, and marry the person you actually like. I don’t know, we were in preschool at that time and somehow those rules carried unto highschool. Tao had broken that vow, and Kris is pissed because he had said no to all the arrange marriages his parents tried to throw unto him.” Chanyeol said as he rubbed the back of his neck. This was too much for a usually happy kid like him to swallow.

“So Kris felt betrayed…” Baekhyun said as he finally understood. “We all were.” Chanyeol was back to smiling now, but the bitterness of the situation still lingered in his words. “What’s going to happen from now on?”

Chanyeol gave Baekhyun a sad look, he too was unsure of what was to happen. “I don’t know, but I’m sure this is going to fix itself.”

“Kris will never let this wedding happen.”
