Chapter 31: Cold but Warm.

The whole day went pretty calm at last, with the students being dismissed an hour earlier than the usual for some faculty meeting. The past 2 days were pretty hectic, in Jaera’s opinion. Actually, not really hectic but more of tensed in a way. Like what Lu Han and Jaera had agreed on, the male dropped her off at school early in the morning and came back by afternoon, although fairly late—about an hour after they were dismissed—so the girl will probably wait more for today. She wasn’t one to complain, though.

Fortunately, the atmosphere around Lu Han had changed back a tad to how it usually was—calm with a tint of sassiness. Sure enough, he was still being so authoritative towards Jaera, but it seems that the girl was getting somewhat used to it. She doesn’t know if it’s a good thing but for now, it probably is.

“Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to stay behind and wait for Lu Han-hyung with you today.” Sehun suddenly spoke, breaking the silence as Tao and Jaera turned to look at him in confusion. “My parents just got back and they want us to go out for an early dinner.”

“Don’t worry about it. You should go to your parents.” The only girl replied without hesitation.

Sehun has been very nice to Jaera lately, and she can’t deny the fact that him staying behind and waiting with her for Lu Han has been very reassuring for her part. With his constant cockiness, an hour of waiting actually felt like only a minute. However, she wouldn’t want to be selfish and have him stay behind just for her own comfort. She doesn’t want the male to confine himself even though she somewhat knew that it was his choice to stay with her. Jaera knew that he rarely gets to spend time with his parents so seeing some progress in their familial situation, it makes her relieved and happy. He has already done more than enough for the girl, and she’s already been a nuisance more than how much she should only be.

“Besides, I’m here anyway. I could just wait with Jaera…” Tao trailed off, his voice halting as he read the message he got. Sehun and Jaera peered over to him only to see a dissatisfied look on his face. “Or not. My mom’s asking me to go home now since she found out about the make-up exams.”

“It’s fine, Tao.” Jaera said, patting his shoulder comfortingly. “Lu Han-oppa’s going to be here soon anyway and you should really study hard or else, your mom might cut your credits and you won’t be able to buy Gucci anymore.”

“No! Not my Gucci!” Tao shrieked, holding his cheeks dramatically, causing for the girl to chuckle.

“Or I could just tell them that I’m going to be late—“

Before Sehun could even finish his suggestion, Jaera immediately gave him a strict look. “Don’t. Look Sehun, I can perfectly handle myself. You don’t need to worry yourself with me, so go now and meet your parents who I know you haven’t met in a while.”

“Don’t flatter yourself. I’m not worried…” Sehun said, creasing his eyebrows at Jaera as the latter discreetly chuckled. “But are you really sure you’re going to be okay?”

“Perfectly sure.” Jaera answered, putting on a reassuring smile. Sehun looked at her hesitantly for a couple of seconds until he finally nodded in defeat. The girl then gestured for Tao to drag Sehun with him towards the direction of the bus station before she waved her arms in the air. “Bye! Take care you two!”

As soon as Sehun and Tao were out of sight, Jaera slowly walked over to the bench under the huge maple tree where she usually sat while waiting for Lu Han. Shifting her position to a comfortable one, she leaned her head back by the sturdy trunk and observed how the gentle winds made the half green-half orange leaves of the maple tree danced and swayed in air. It was only an early autumn afternoon and yet the skies were getting a tad darker than necessary. With a still look, Jaera hoped that Lu Han would come by earlier for it looks like heavy rains are probably coming ahead.

She then averted her gaze from the sky upon noticing a familiar red BMW approaching her way. The said car stopped just right in front of her as a familiar tanned man came to her sight. “Waiting for Lu Han-hyung?”

“Yeah… wait, how did you know?” Jaera asked, a bit bewildered.

“Just guessing,” Kai shrugged, donning his signature smile. “But hey, want to eat out for awhile?”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Jaera said, pressing her lips into a thin line as she looked at Kai a bit hesitantly. “I mean, Lu Han might be back while we’re gone…”

“How long do you usually wait for him?”

“About an hour or so.”

“Then much more now since you were dismissed earlier.” Kai argued, looking at Jaera forcefully, making it hard for the girl to decide. “We’ll be back before he even finds out that we went out and besides, you wouldn’t want to wait until the rain comes.”

“I don’t know…” Jaera still hesitated, fiddling with the straps of her bag as Kai raised an eyebrow. “I still have to study for the make-up exams.”

“All the more reason for us to eat out for awhile, I’ll help you!” Kai exclaimed, grinning at Jaera as he was about to finally win. The girl was about to prove him wrong when he suddenly gave out a pleading look. “Please Jaera? Pretty please?”

And he did win. Jaera was indeed defeated for she eventually found herself seated on the passenger’s seat beside Kai as he drove to the The Coffee Bean branch near their school. She mentally slapped herself for getting dragged out by Kai again, but she just couldn’t say no to him, much like how she couldn’t resist his younger sister Jongmi. The two siblings were always the ones dragging her out to places and Jaera having a weak resolve, always followed behind them.

Mental note of Jaera to herself: Have more tenacity and treat the siblings instead next time.

After managing to secure a safe spot for parking, Jaera followed behind Kai as usual as he ordered cakes and drinks for them. She wasn’t familiar with the place as it was the first time for her to actually go there so Kai took the initiative to order for her. The girl wasn’t really picky when it comes to food so she trusted Kai and his tastes.

Although, unlike the last time when they sat down on the high stools in front of the window, this time, they sat by the window as well but with their chairs facing each other. “Hey, I ordered Chocolate Mousse and Jak-Sul tea for you, if you don’t mind. It’s getting colder because of the rain so I reckoned you’d prefer hot tea more.”

Jaera turned away from the glass windows and assisted Kai as he placed their snacks on the table. In a matter of minutes, as expected, it began to rain. “Yeah, I’d like that. Thanks.”

“So why did Lu Han-hyung suddenly decide to ground you?” Kai asked, shifting on his seat as he stirred his tea of which Jaera assumed to be Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearl—or at least what the menu on the wall says. “What kick- trouble have you gotten yourself into for hyung to even go as far as that?”

“It’s nothing big, actually. I just need to take some make-up exam since my academic grades are slowly declining,” Jaera responded, relishing the sweet scent of her green tea before putting on a frown. “But it’s not like I failed anything. I do understand that it’s my fault, but it’s just kind of weird for him to… you know… do that.”

“Well, you know how Lu Han-hyung can be a bit temperamental.” Taking a sip from his dark drink, Kai averted his gaze from the window as he gave Jaera a sneer. “Don’t worry, I have it worse.”

“What do you mean?”

“Nothing in particular.” Kai shrugged again as Jaera raised an eyebrow. He then pushed one of the plates towards her as he took a bite on his. “Let’s eat first then I’ll help you study.”

About an hour after Kai started helping Jaera study, the café slowly got more crowded as the rain started pouring harder. Many passerby took shelter to various shops, but the one that got crowded the most and the fastest was the café—partly because it was closer to the sidewalks, and mostly because of the warm tea that they sell which is quite helpful during a cold autumn day.

The pitter-patter on the glass windows was very audible, with the droplets being as a size of 10 mm needles. Added with the growing noise inside the establishment, Jaera could barely understand and comprehend what she was reading. Her focus and concentration were slowly getting overshadowed by the many factors surrounding them.

It was when the rain was at its loudest and the people at their noisiest that Jaera finally stopped and raised her head from her books, coming in face to face with Kai. “Something wrong, Jaera?”

“No—“ Jaera was about to speak when another familiar face suddenly caught her attention, sending unwanted chills down her spine. “Actually, there is and it’s approaching us in 3, 2, 1—“

 “Yah!” Lu Han shouted, not

Chapter 60: This is my second time reading the ff (T▽T) author-nim you did a really good job ˊ▽ˋ i still love it even after years past. Reading this back reminds me a lot of past (〒︿〒) i miss the past so much the first time i read this when i was still in high school, still in my teens (not that im already old but yeah just entered twenties this year) anyway the story was great, honestly when you described jisoo i used to imagined her as sulli and i was shocked when you told us that you changed her name from sulli to jisoo bc tbh i think sulli fits the description more hahaha. Talk about jisoo, i like that girl yeah she might be annoying sometimes especially when it comes to her love for luhan but can i blame her when we all know that love is something we can't choose. It must also hurt her so much same as sehun.. I just want to hug and protect him so much (╥﹏╥) that boy really sacrificed so much for jaera and his luhan hyung lmao that show how big his heart. As for jaera and luhan...i love and ship both of them so much (ಥ_ಥ) both of them was definitely are destined for each other since from the start. They lost contacts from each other but years after that, they met again without knowing each other real identity but luhan..he still fell in love with jaera for the second time (ノ>ω<)ノ i like how he really cares for jaera (T_T) i even counted how much his nose bled over jaera in this ff..it was like five times before they are married and one time after they are married lmao that girl really did make him fell hard for her (^O^)/ . If only i can upvote this so many times, i would! ♡♡ thank you for the amazing ff author-nim hehehe ♡(◡‿◡✿)
