Get Yourself a Woman, Ahjussi

“I’m too old to have a zit on my nose.”

“Eh?” and she burst out laughing, realising it was a joke from him.

The joke was dead pan. But it was a joke none the less.

Was he ever this funny in the past?

She could not remember.

But she liked the new Ahjussi even better.

They were both sitting in the apartment’s small living room again.

He has since put a long coffee table in front of the sofa, just for her.

So-Mi used to lie on the floor with her homework while he sat on the sofa with his book.

Now, So-Mi sit at one end of the table, still on the floor, with her college assignments while he occupied the other end with his bonsai.

“It’s not a zit.”

“Then, why were you staring?”

So-Mi simply shrugged. And smiled.

“Amber was right. You are good looking.”

He raised his eyebrows and continued pruning his little lime plant.

She continued admiring him from afar.

“Why don’t you get yourself a woman, Ahjussi?”

“Are you match making me with Amber,” he asked in his flat voice, without even looking up.

She burst out laughing again.

And the matter was dropped just like that.
