I Can Wait

“The date is set. It’ll be a week after New Year.”

“Neh.”

“The Senator will be there to host the exhibition. You, will be our guest of honor.”

“Thank you, Detective Lee.”

“Please, won’t you call me Min Sung, or…if you like…oppa,” he laughed, covering his embarrassment.

This girl is beautiful, he thought for possibly the 100^th time.

But the best part was that, he mused, she was talented, intelligent and have no clue whatsoever to what she was worth.

It has been close to a year since they met that fateful night in the Ganseogogeri back alley.

Through the months he had hunted for her, till he found her at Sungkyunkwan, his own alma mater. 

If it was not a small world.

He did not really expect her to be univesity student, but what he found out about her, apart from her personal background, impressed him.

She was one of the high achievers in her department, a talented photographer who also dabbled in portrait and nature photography, skilled in martial arts and was taking foreign language classes.

And he knew all those were achieved despite the adversity she has faced in the past.

Now, they were seated in the university park. Together.

The bright sun offsetting the cold wintery weather.

And the girl who sat beside him gave him no clue to what was truly hidden underneath.

“Neh, Min Sung-ssi,” she smiled.

“Not oppa, huh?”

“Not yet, maybe,” she answered truthfully.

“I can live with ‘not yet’,” he smiled.

I can wait, he declared to himself.

She was that worth it.
