成语 [chéngyǔ] are a type of traditional Chinese idiomatic expressions, most of which consist of four characters.

Chengyu were widely used in Classical Chinese and are still common in vernacular Chinese writing and in the spoken language today.

 


 

按部就班 [àn bù jiù bān]

Meaning Follow conventional procedures; in accordance with the prescribed order, step-by-step

 

Example

He is someone who follow rules step-by-step very closely

他是个非常按部就班的人 [tā shì gè fēi cháng àn bù jiù bān de rén]
