Description

 

    In 1637, the Dutch experienced “Tulipmania”: a time when tulips were the height of wealth. Their beauty could be possessed, altered, and sold. It was during this time that a young man named Gustaffer fell in love with a rich tulip merchant’s daughter and destroyed his friendships because of this love. As star crossed lovers, Gustaffer ran off with his beloved on the night of her wedding to his best friend but failed to go through with the plan because of his weakness: tulips. The merchant promised Gustaffer the rarest of the flowers,  Augustus Semper, in return for his beloved daughter and he had to choose between his life’s dream from his life’s love. In the heat of his greed and blinded by the tulip’s beauty, he returned the girl for the bulb of the flower and right when he did so, he felt anguished instead of happy. For his heart, he traded his desire. And because of this deed, Gustaffer jumped from the tallest mountain top. When the girl heard of what became of her former lover, she hung herself in her wedding gown, leaving behind Gustaffer’s best friend and the man who loved her with all his heart.
 
    In the heat of the moment, Gustaffer was unaware of the game he had begun. Because of his grudging heart and despairing soul, Death had found the tragedy all too desirable. Nearly a century longer, Death brought back the star crossed lovers and their obstacles to the Earth once more and watched as the young man made the same mistakes once more. Out of the 6 times Death brought them back, only once did the man almost win over his flaws. And until he is able to learn, their souls will continue to return tirelessly. Not only that, but Death punished the man because of his failure with the ability to remember each of his lives in clarity but renewed his love’s so that only he would have to regain her heart in each life. . .
