Chapter 18 (Final)

Love You More

The couple welcomed a baby boy into their small family a year later. They named him Kim Kyung-soo, and it was Myungsoo’s creative idea to combine both their names to come up with it. Ji Kyung accepted it right away, because the name didn’t sound weird and it suited the baby well. The little one turned out to be a perfect combination of the young couple, taking after his mother’s bubbly personality and his father’s handsome looks. The Kim couple was surely overjoyed and blessed to have Kyung-soo as part of their growing family.

Nevertheless, Ji Kyung had it rough for a couple of weeks right after giving birth. She was unprepared, lost and anxious about her new responsibilities as a mother. She doubted herself and was caught in several mood swings, but the baby blues didn’t last long as Myungsoo was there to support her ups and downs. He had even taken the initiative to invite Ji Kyung’s parents over for a short stay in the earlier period, to help his wife out with the childrearing and coping with the new situation. As always, she was thankful for her family who were there for her, especially her loving husband for never giving up in helping her to find back her happiness. She wouldn’t stand a chance to get over the baby blues that quickly if it weren’t for them.

In a blink of an eye, it was already a year into their marriage. For their first wedding anniversary, Myungsoo had suggested to his wife that they should take a couple of days off work to go for a mini vacation. The bubbly Ji Kyung immediately jumped at the suggestion, because she would never want to pass an opportunity to travel, it was her life-long dream after all, to travel around and gather different experiences.

The two decided for a two-days-one-night short trip to Busan, but they figured that it would be difficult to bring along their little Kyung-soo, so Ji Kyung had pleaded her parents to help in taking care of the baby while they were away. They agreed immediately, with the reason being that Kyung-soo was a little bundle of joy that they wouldn’t even mind caring for him for a lifetime. Ji Kyung laughed when her mother said that, then promised that they will be back on time to pick her little boy up and thanked her parents nonetheless.

“It’s about time we go on this short getaway and put aside our obligations!” She exclaimed when they were in the bus, on their way to the Gamcheon Culture Village. Apparently, the couple reached Busan in the late morning, so they had planned to visit the artsy village before heading to the Gwangalli Beach to spend the second half of the day. Ji Kyung scrolled through her phone quickly to check the photos of the hot spot they are about to go, and was instantly awestruck by the colorful views, different kinds of murals and sculptures. She can’t wait to see the real thing. The girl was so hyped-up and she couldn’t help but showing Myungsoo what she had found occasionally to share her excitement.

As usual, watching her react enthusiastically at the thought of visiting photogenic places as well as travelling made Myungsoo smiled naturally and thought about how cute she would always be. He patted his adorable wife’s head gently, hugged her closer to him and rested his cheeks on her head. When he closed his eyes, he could clearly smell the floral in her soft, silky hair, and he couldn’t help but planted a loving kiss onto her hair, all the while smiling joyously.

Ji Kyung felt the warmth of his soft lips on her head, held her breath for a second and blushed at his sudden actions. She could also feel her heart blossoming at the unexpected kiss, and realized that they have not shared such intimacy for quite a while because they had been so busy with everything else. Then, she responded by turning her face to meet his and kissed her husband on the lips, catching him by surprise. There was a little cheeky smile on the girl’s face when she pulled away briefly, before Myungsoo leaned in again to deepen the kiss. All the while the couple was sharing a loving, affectionate kiss, the memories of their past journey came playing in their minds once again.

The lad remembered their tough times, from the time he gave her the silent treatment after finding out about Byunghun, to the moment he realized that he couldn't stop loving her. He also remembered clearly on how they eventually pushed through all the obstacles and stayed together until now. For a long period of time, Myungsoo watched Ji Kyung suffer through her loss, her anxiety and baby blues; he remembered feeling so bad for his girl that he kept praying to the divinity to let the pain pass quickly or to let him suffer instead. Thankfully, with his great love and continuous support, his girl was able to put an end to the dark days and welcomed the spring back into her life after that. And he was more than happy for her.

Looking at her precious smile now, he prayed that their happiness will last long.

"Thank you." As if she had heard his thoughts or shared the same flashbacks, it was the first thing she said when they broke away from the kiss.

"I love you." He replied affectionately. The two giggled at each other.

---

Attracted by the vibrant colors of blues, reds, yellow and so many other different shades, the couple lingered in the picturesque village for far longer than they had planned. Myungsoo had also taken the opportunity to capture photos of the happy Ji Kyung in every corner of the village, as well as photos of the both of them posing in funny ways, hoping that these pictures will always remind them of their hard-earned happiness in the near future.

The sun was almost setting when the couple arrived at the Gwangalli Beach. Lucky for them, the weather was still nice and the crowds were lesser than expected. Feeling the salty sea breeze brushing across her face, Ji Kyung jokingly said that this must be heaven, and Myungsoo laughed at her innocent statement. They sat on the white, sandy beach and watched the enchanting sunset together, then talked about where to spend their night after dinner later.

An hour or so later, they find themselves settling in a nearby seafood restaurant and the couple couldn’t help but devoured the delicious food in an instant after a day of walking and exploring around. When they were finished, Ji Kyung told her husband that this was the best trip ever, and he couldn’t agree more. After all they’ve been through, they could finally sit back and relax, enjoying this wonderful trip together without any worries.

That night, the couple retired early after a short trip to the Bupyeong Kkangtong Market and trying a couple of the famous street food. There were moments where the two were reminded of their Japan trip, but this time, the past no longer bring a frown to their faces, only bittersweet feelings and nostalgia that made them smile.

Although Ji Kyung admitted that she still misses Byunghun at times, she was also very sure that she only misses the good old memories. And needless to say, all of the times with Byunghun were no longer her priority, because she knows how much she has grown to love the present, and the future, with Myungsoo in the picture.

That night, the couple had a very restful sleep in each other’s warm embrace.

---

In the late afternoon of the second day, it was already time to say goodbye to the beautiful Busan and return to Seoul. The getaway was short, but it definitely was extra memorable to the both of them. While the couple were on their way to the airport, they had to cross a busy road to get to the taxi waiting area. They waited patiently for the traffic lights to turn red, but it was then they saw a young man, standing out from the crowd in his light-coloured hair. He was wearing a pair of sunglasses, and was walking slowly towards the road, seemingly clueless to the fact that the cars had not stopped coming.

Myungsoo was immediately alerted at the danger the young man was about to put himself into, and reacted quickly by going over to pull him back into the sidewalk. The boy almost lost his balance and fall, but Myungsoo had him covered so they managed to regain their composure in a safe spot shortly after.

“The traffic lights had not turned red yet.” Myungsoo informed, and the innocent boy gulped nervously before nodding to his statement.

“T-thank you…” He replied shortly.

“Are you guys okay?” At that moment, Ji Kyung had just come to the guys and asked in concern. When she directed her gaze at the boy, her eyes widened in surprise. The boy looked like the younger version of Byunghun. Except, the boy in front is blind.

“B-byunghun?” Without thinking, she blurted out his name all of a sudden, earning a weird stare from the confused Myungsoo who was standing beside the boy.

The boy listened to the unfamiliar name, then shook his head in denial and corrected her, “My name’s Lee Joe, or you can just say ‘L.joe’.”

Her heart sank unknowingly upon hearing the young boy’s answer, but she mentally scolded herself for the foolish action. She gathered herself properly and patted his shoulder tenderly, then asked if he needed help in crossing the road.

“Yes, thank you.” He smiled as he responded to her.

The image of the young Byunghun flashed before the woman’s eyes the second time when she saw him smiling. Ji Kyung shook the ridiculous thoughts away and held the boy’s hand, calling her husband to cross the road together as the light had just turned red.

When the trio successfully go across the road, the young L.Joe bowed to thank the couple and made his leave, disappearing slowly into the crowd. The both of them stared at him for a while, before getting on the taxi that was waiting for them.

“He does look like Byunghun, doesn’t he?” Myungsoo questioned after the two were seated comfortably in the car. Ji Kyung nodded absentmindedly, as her eyes were still focused on the crowd outside.

Goodbye, Ji Kyung.

A faint, familiar voice of a young male echoed in the air as the taxi slowly moves away from the crowd. He did not drink the water of oblivion.
