Day - 2

Jongin – no, I mean Kai – let me into the apartment the next morning. It was barely 8am, and I looked around, surprised to find Joonmyun already gone.

“It’s Saturday,” I stated, glancing around in confusion.

“Hyung always works,” Kai explained, shrugging. “I don’t even know if 'workaholic' is the right word to describe him.”

“Was his ex-wife really that bad?” I asked, accepting a cup of coffee from Kai.

He sighed, and joined me at the table. “Basically, hyung gave her everything and she stomped on his heart, so, yeah.”

“That is hard to imagine…”

“Noona,” he said, suddenly sitting up straighter. A wild glint entered his eyes, and he grinned at me. “You should save him.”

“I can’t save him if he doesn’t want to be saved,” I replied, raising an eyebrow. “Anyway, direct me to the bathroom.”

I dropped off a bag full of my stuff in the house, and made it look like I lived there. I stuck a toothbrush and cup in the bathroom, an extra pink towel on the towel rack, and a few girly facial creams and makeup removers by the sink. I left a few cardigans and slippers around the house, and left general girl items out for someone – hopefully Soojin – to see.  

By that time, even little Hyunjun had woken up, calling me “noona” finally.

“Are you going with us to the park today?” Hyunjun asked as Kai zipped his little nephew up in a warm jacket.

“Aniyo,” I told him, patting him on the head. “Noona is going to go make your appa take a few days off work so he can play with you.”

Hyunjun clapped, grinning happily.

“Yeah, good luck,” Kai scoffed, disbelieving.

I took that to be a challenge, and headed off for Joonmyun’s office.

I found Baekhyun in his place behind the reception desk, but this time, he was huddled deep in conversation with a tall man in a dark suit. He straightened up when he saw me enter.

“Ah, Minjung-ssi, Joonmyun didn’t tell me you were coming in today!” he said, flustered.

“He doesn’t know,” I explained.

“Well, this is Park Chanyeol, Joonmyun’s personal assistant. Chanyeol, this is hyung’s new girlfriend, Han Minjung.”

Girlfriend. I liked the sound of that.

Chanyeol’s voice was surprisingly deep as he greeted me with a low bow.

“So guys, what do you think is the possibility of me getting Joonmyun to take a week off for vacation?” I asked, leaning against the reception counter.

Baekhyun winced, and shook his head. “Slim,” he replied, gloomily. “Dr. Kim hasn’t taken a vacation day or a sick day in a long, long time.”

“I wish I had as many vacations hours saved up,” Chanyeol grumbled.
