OT12, Krisho (606 words)

Kris has tripped over many things in his lifetime. Stuff like toys, rocks, even nothing, are just a few of the things which have knocked him completely off balance before. However, he’s never fallen over a cardboard box containing a kid before.

He contemplates this fact as he lies face-down in the polished floorboards. The big toe on his right foot is still throbbing, and he feels like all the wind’s been knocked out of him.

Somewhere behind him, and all around, in fact, giggles erupt and there’s a faint sound of hollow thuds as the kids move their cardboard boxes around. Kris had transported a large amount of papers and other various assortments the other day, and he’d never really had the time to go throw out the boxes. He peels himself off the floor and twists his body to look around at exactly what the kids have done.

There’s what appears to be a conga line of boxes, which have their sides crudely torn out, to form a tunnel of sorts, that leads from Kai, Kyungsoo, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, and Xiumin’s room to Tao, Lay, Sehun, Chen, and Luhan’s.

Something’s going on.

“Guys.” Kris coughs, because that fall from his six feet really punched the air from his lungs. “Guys, what are you making.”

He turns his head to look at the box at his feet, the only displaced one, and a dishevelled head pops out. It looks around for a second, disorientated, then it spots Kris and grins.

“We’re trains!” Chen beams. “Choo choo! Chugga chugga chugga chugga choo choo!” The head disappears and the little box shuffles back to its original position. Chen doesn’t seem winded at all by Kris tripping over him, Kris sullenly notes. Not that he wants Chen hurt, no.

“Move your !” Kris hears Chen’s muffled harsh whispers and suddenly the whole cardboard assembly starts to shake and wriggle like a long, brown, boxy snake. Kris watches, flabbergasted, as it continues to pour out children from one end until the last of them, Xiumin, crawls out the end.

There’s a couple of cheers as all ten of the kids hi-five and hug like they just launched a rocket to Mars or something. Kris shakes his head and sighs. It’s too early for anything like this. Especially not on a Saturday afternoon.

There are footsteps behind him and then Suho’s suddenly there with a toothbrush in his mouth and messy pyjamas and tousled hair. He looks down at Kris in surprise, then at the whole ensemble of boxes, then finally at the group of cheering kids.

“Do I want to know what’s happening?” He mumbles amusedly as best as he can through a mouthful of toothpaste.

“Nope.” Kris deadpans as he stands. “And neither do I.” He casually brushes himself off and steers Suho back to the bathroom.

Suho just laughs.

Suho’s the one to trip over the tunnel later that day. It’s been upgraded to having a blanket thrown over it to cover the brown. Suho recognises it as Sehun’s.

He very much doubts that Sehun volunteered it.

“Guys!” Suho hastily rearranges the boxes, like he’s done some horrible deed by knocking them out of line. “Guys!”

He opens the door to Xiumin’s room first, sighing when he discovers there’s no one there. Then he checks Luhan’s room.

All ten of them are huddled in the middle of the room in a squishy-looking pile of cute, using each other as pillows. They look so peaceful, so serene. Suho figures that building secret tunnels take a lot out of a kid.

Softly, he closes the door and just laughs.
