Attention: This story is based in the Fringe episode of the same name. I do not own B2st, 4Minute and Fringe.
Lee Gigwang has been promoted to head of the Cube Division, while Heo Gayoon welcomes back Yoon Doojoon, her boyfriend who has been working as part of the Centers for Disease Control to deal with an outbreak in Sejong City for the last several weeks. The division is alerted to a case where a man has been killed, eaten from the inside by insects. They identify the insects as "skelter beetles", which is surprising as they had been assumed to have become extinct some ten years earlier along with sheep, the only host they can survive in. Doojoon is brought in to consult on the case at Junhyung's request, and later proposes marriage to Gayoon, who happily accepts.
A second case occurs a few days later, another man killed by the beetles, but they find the beetles to be larger and more mature. From the second victim's movements, they identify the likely culprit as Dr. Bang Jaewon, a former scientist. Dr. Bang was working on a cure for avian flu using the skelter beetle, but his research was terminated with the extinction of the sheep. Gayoon and Doojoon postulate Dr. Bang may be trying to breed the beetles in humans, who share similar biological features with sheep.
Gayoon and Junhyung track Dr. Bang's location, an abandoned building, and separate. Dr. Bang locks Junhyung in a cold storage room, while Gayoon falls through a weakened floor and passes out. She is woken by Dr. Bang, but finds herself secured to a chair. Dr. Bang explains to Gayoon that he wants to see through the end of his research, needing only one more human host for a final gestation cycle to birth the queen beetle from which the beetle species, and his cure, can be sustained. Gayoon feels pains in her body when Dr. Bang implies the last cycle has begun, believing herself to be the host.
By then, Junhyung has broken out of the cold locker and called for backup. Doojoon rushes Gayoon to a hospital while Junhyung interrogates Dr. Bang. Dr. Bang reveals he was the last host, and implores Junhyung to remember his name as he extracts the live queen beetle from his body and dies. Meanwhile, Doojoon discovers Gayoon is pregnant; the adrenaline had induced morning sickness symptoms. At the hospital, the fetus is found to be six weeks old. Doojoon realizes he was away at that time, accuses Gayoon of sleeping with another man, and leaves her. Gayoon cries to herself, realizing her child's father is Max Changmin.
In a side plot, Shim Seulong has recovered the portion of the doomsday machine that Gayoon has secured, and has discovered the formulation for Cortexiphan from his tests on Jiyoon, but refuses to allow it to be tested on children. When he hears of Gayoon's pregnancy with his grandchild, Seulong comforts her and offers his complete support for her, believing the child to be another way to bring Max Changmin voluntarily.
In the waiting area, Gayoon stares at a dirigible airship as it approaches the Gangnam Station. Gayoon is delighted to reunite with her boyfriend after his two month stay in Sejong City.
-How was the shower? said Gayoon
-It was hot said Doojoon.
-I was beginning to think there wasn't a hot shower anywhere in Sejong City.
At Doojoon and Gayoon's apartment, Gayoon hands Doojoon a drink after his warm shower. Doojoon notices that his girlfriend seems a bit distant and not herself. Gayoon blames her work and stealthily closes Park Joon Hyung's files. Gayoon explains that Hong is missing. There is no lead to his disappearance and Yong Junhyung will take over his position. Doojoon feels bad about the situation, and they make out.
Back at the Gangnam Station bar, the stranded man rushes to the restroom and begins to vomit. Jaewon follows him to the stall and ignores his pleas for help. Jaewon walks out the stall with a bottle of bugs. Several beetles scurries on the floor.
