Coupons and Chocolates - SuLay

All I Care About

Compared to the other couples in the house, Lay had always felt that he and Suho were the more “mellow” couple. And he likes to think they're the only normal couple of the house, but Baekhyun thinks otherwise.

You two are like a boring married couple,” Baekhyun had once told Lay, causing Lay to ignore him for the rest of the day because hey, he and Suho were not boring (he does agree with the married couple part though). He admits they were not as spontaneous (or as crazy) as Baekhyun and Chanyeol nor were they as outgoing as the two. The troublesome pair could always be found having the times of their lives, whether it's a spur of the moment midnight run to the local convenience store, and not returning till they've wiped out the store's stock of ice cream or a short exchange of whispered words during dinner that eventually led to an overly suggestive tickle session out in the patio afterwards.

Lay has never told anyone, but sometimes he caught himself envying Chanyeol and Baekhyun and how carefree they are with each other. How they can practically do anything, even if it's illegal or inappropriate, and still have smiles on their faces at the end of the day – just enjoying the moment and happy to share it with the other.

But most of the time, Lay thinks they're simply a reckless pair.

As for Luhan and Sehun, well....Lay had always felt that he and Suho could never be as sickeningly sweet (borderline cheesy) as the two. For example, Lay, and the rest of the house members, had all seen the little love notes Luhan leaves for Sehun whenever he's at work, and as adorable as that is, Lay wondered just how many I love you Sehun-ahs can the older boy write before he got tired. Lay was pretty sure that Sehun knew that fact already, but he guessed that it probably didn't bother the maknae to be reminded every so often.

Sometimes, Lay envied the two because it probably feels really nice to be reminded every day that someone special to you loves you just as much as you love them. He feels envious not because Suho doesn't tell him how much he loves him (he does that almost every day), but because of the small smile that would always appear right after Sehun would read said love notes – the smile that spoke volumes. It's happiness, appreciation, devotion, and love all bundled nicely on a little bright colored sticky note. The message was always the same, but the effect it had never dulled. That, Lay thinks, is the sweetest thing about the love shared between Luhan and Sehun.

But of course, there are days that Lay thinks their love is simply cavity inducing.

And honestly, he couldn't imagine Suho leaving him an endearing video message whenever he had to work late – something that Lay recently found out that Sehun had been doing to make sure his boyfriend didn't feel so lonely without him there. It's cute and embarrassing all rolled in one.

Frankly, if Lay was to witness their cute interactions every hour of the day, he would probably feel like he was trapped on some sort of fluffy rainbow.

So how would Lay describe his relationship with Suho?

Well, the word simple comes to mind. No crazy surprises. No mushy confessions. They were simple, but definitely not boring.

FLASHBACK

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon, and Lay was in the kitchen putting away the dishes. He was wiping the sink area when he heard Baekhyun and Chanyeol laughing. He looked out the kitchen window and wow really?

The couple had decided that the best time to go outside and plant something was when it was raining (Lay had no idea what they were even planting, and neither does Kyungsoo). They were currently throwing mud at each other. Their umbrellas tossed to the side, completely forgotten. Chanyeol had just received a muddy, resounding smack in the face courtesy of his giggling boyfriend and not surprisingly, the tall boy was laughing his head off – as if receiving mud in the face was a wonderful experience. Lay shook his head. They were really a couple of kids.

Eventually Chanyeol got his revenge when he tackled Baekhyun to the ground, a wide grin appearing on his face. Before Baekhyun could protest about being pinned down by the taller boy, Chanyeol crashed their lips together – effectively silencing the boy. From the looks of it, Baekhyun didn't mind. The couple continued their make out session in the rain. Neither of them caring that they would surely catch a cold from being out in the rain - the identical grins on both of their faces when they separated for air indicated such.

Deciding that he rather not spend another minute watching the aggressive twosome (they had started “wrestling” each other), Lay walked out of the kitchen and stepped into the living room where he was suddenly a witness to something extremely cute and oh so fluffy – Luhan snuggling Sehun.

They were both on the big white couch. The older boy had his eyes closed, peacefully sleeping with one hand clutching Sehun's shirt while Sehun had one arm wrapped securely around the older boy, holding him close. They looked absolutely adorable.

But what caught Lay's attention was the fact that Luhan had one earphone on, and Sehun, who was awake and was looking at his iPod, had the other piece. They were probably listening to music together before Luhan fell asleep. Lay smiled because he knew that today was one of those rare days in which the pair were off from work. He knew they haven't been able to spend as much time as they usually did, so any time they had outside of work was spent being together – which explains why they were inseparable since breakfast.

What's the matter hyung?” Sehun asked when he realized that Lay was there staring at him and his boyfriend.

Lay smiled. “Nothing. Do you want me to get a blanket?” He gestured towards Luhan, who had moved a bit, burying his face in Sehun's chest, cuddling closer to the younger boy.

Sehun looked at his boyfriend, and Lay saw the quick flash of adoration in Sehun's eyes before he looked back up at him. “Yeah....If you don't mind hyung because I can't get up.”

Lay chuckled before he walked to the closet and took out the big blanket they use whenever they had movie nights in the living room. He placed it over the couple and grinned. “Good?”

Sehun smiled. “Perfect. Thanks hyung.”

No problem.”

When Lay made his way upstairs, images of him sharing earphones with Suho and sleeping on his chest crept his mind, but he quickly shot them down. They had tried the whole napping together on the living room couch, and unfortunately, it didn't work out. Ten minutes in, Suho found himself on the floor because Lay was, and still is, a kicker in his sleep.

Lay opened the door to his and Suho's room and found Suho laying in bed reading a book. With glasses perched on top of his nose and his face scrunching up whenever he came across a certain sentence, Lay thought his boyfriend looked like a grandpa. A hot one of course.

What are you reading?” Lay asked as he slipped under the covers and joined his boyfriend, naturally resting his head on Suho's shoulder.

Suho smiled and placed the book in front of them both, allowing Lay to also read the words on the page. “A book about the qualities one would find in a leader. It's fascinating.”

Lay chuckled. “Rightt.”

Suho raised a brow. “What? It is interesting...You don't like it? We can read another one if you want..”

No, it's fine.”

Okay. Now where was I?” Suho pointed to a paragraph on the page, and from there he started reading while Lay looked at him in awe. He always had a thing for serious Suho – especially one that was reading out loud.

Do I have something on my face?” Suho asked when he felt Lay looking at him for too long.

Lay shook his head. “Nope. I just really like rainy afternoons. It feels nice.” Being with you feels nice.

Oh.” Suho flashed him a shy smile before bringing him closer. “Yeah. It does feel nice.”

A small smile can be seen on Lay's face when he turned his attention back to the book. He's not paying attention to the words Suho was reading. The book really wasn't interesting, but somehow Suho had left him enthralled, wanting to hear more.

Because to Lay, Suho's voice was something he could listen to every day and never grow tired. One of the best things in the world actually.

FLASHBACK ENDS

Definitely not boring...

Oooooo. Breakfast in bed?” Chanyeol asked as he walked into the kitchen, startling Lay, who didn't expect anyone to be up so early considering the fact that it was the weekend. Lay was actually only awake because he had something planned – something special.

The tall boy walked over to the counter and spotted the tray that Lay was placing various items on. He gave Lay a sly smirk. “Someone is going to have an awesome Valentine's Day morning. I hope Suho hyung is ready.”

Lay blushed. “Shut up Chanyeol.”

Chanyeol chuckled before he walked over and opened one of the top cabinets. He pulled out a beautiful bouquet of red roses. Lay laughed when Chanyeol started sniffing them.

So that's where you hid them,” Lay stated with amusement. “Baekhyun was pestering everybody the whole week to find out where you hid his gift.”

Chanyeol flashed him a toothy grin. “Yeah. There's no way he would look there.” He pointed towards the top cabinet. “He can't even reach it.” They laughed at the comment because it's completely true.

Good luck hyung,” Chanyeol said. “I hope everything turns out great for you two. Now if you would excuse me, I got to deliver flowers to a certain shorty.” He gave Lay a mini salute before exiting the kitchen, whistling a cheery tune.

With a determined look on his face, Lay entered his bedroom, carrying the tray of food he had worked hard on. He smiled when he caught sight of Suho still sleeping under the covers. Lay slowly climbed into bed to sit next to the sleeping boy. He placed the tray on his lap before he gently nudged Suho.

Suhooo.”

Suho's eyes opened immediately at the sound of Lay's voice, a breathtaking smile automatically gracing his face when he spotted Lay next to him. “Mhm. Morning Lay – what's all this?” Suho quickly sat up when he saw the tray.

Breakfast for my Valentine,” Lay answered with a grin. He passed the tray over to Suho's lap and pointed at each item. “I made your favorite rice congee – make sure you blow on it before you eat because it's still hot. And the toasts are sort of burnt near the edges, so you can just tear those parts off. And the eggs are --”

Lay stopped talking when he realized that Suho was staring at him, an adoring smile on his face. “You made all of this for me?”

Well, who else would I make it for?” Lay asked, a bit confused as to why Suho would ask him something that was plain obvious.

Suho chuckled before he leaned over and gave Lay a quick peck on the cheek. “You're amazing.”

Slightly blushing at the compliment, Lay lowered his head. “Duh,” he whispered.

Suho laughed. “But I really can't finish this all by myself...” Lay looked up and found Suho looking at him with smiling eyes. “Want to eat it with me?”

Fine if you insist...” Lay grabbed a spoon from the tray and started swirling the congee with Suho watching him intently. “Happy Valentine's Day,” Lay stated when he made eye contact with Suho.

With a wide smile, Suho replied, “Happy Valentine's Day to you too Lay. Thanks for the food.” He picked up a heart-shaped hard boiled egg. “How did you get it like this?”

I found the instructions online and I thought it might be fun...”

He decided not to tell Suho that he actually spent a good thirty minutes trying to get the eggs the perfect shape. He had tried it on multiple eggs before finally succeeding with the ones that were on the plate.

Suho grinned. “I think they're cute...just like the person who made them.”

Lay pursed his lips, trying his hardest not to break into a cheesy grin. Maybe he should rethink his label of Sehun and Luhan being the cheesiest couple of the house. Maybe.

After they were done eating, Suho thanked him again and surprised him by taking out a red heart-shaped box of chocolate from underneath his pillow. Was that there since last night?? Did he sleep on it?

Open it,” Suho said.

Lay did and what was in the box confused him, or rather what wasn't in the box. The box was completely empty. Where are the chocolates?

Ummm,” Lay mumbled, not sure how to go about explaining to his boyfriend that he got ripped off with an empty box.

Suho laughed. “I bought it purposely empty.”

Lay raised a brow. “Why?”

Because I figured it would be fun for us to make our own candy to place in the box. I read online that today there will be various candy shops  giving out free lessons for people to come and make their own chocolates. Soooo how about you and I --”

Yes. Sounds like fun,” Lay interjected, an excited grin on his face. The thought of learning to make chocolate with his Valentine made his heart flutter (embarrassingly so). He simply couldn't wait. “But first...”

Lay walked over to the closet and brought out a red envelope. “I got you something else...I hope you like it.”

Suho opened the envelope and when he saw the contents, he smiled for the umpteenth time this morning. “I love it,” he said, taking out the small multicolored love coupons that Lay had personally made. “Did you make this yourself?”

Lay nodded. “Luhan hyung and Baekhyun helped.”

I can see that,” Suho said when he picked out a coupon that read Good for 1 Cuddle Session. Lay immediately blushed when he read the words, clearly not aware that Luhan had placed that coupon into the pile (even after Lay had told him not to).

But that wasn't all.

Suho's eyes widen when he read the coupon underneath that one. “Um.” He cleared his throat. “I think this was probably Baekhyun's.”

He showed Lay the coupon that read Good for 1 Mind-Blowing .

OH. MY. GOD. HE DIDN'T! Lay stared at the coupon in horror, not quite believing the words that he had just read.

Feeling heat quickly spreading across his face, Lay snatched the coupon away from Suho. “Uh. Um I'm s-sorry about that. I d-didn't know he was going to put that in there.” Baekhyun, you are so dead!

Suho chuckled. “It's okay.” He surprised Lay by taking the offending coupon back. “Since you gave this to me, I think I'll keep it. It might be useful someday..”

Lay blushed a deeper shade of red when Suho said that. What just happened?? “Uh. S-should we go downstairs?” He asked, quickly changing the topic because honestly, it was way too early for him to be talking about that sort of thing. He got up to leave but when he heard screams coming from downstairs, he looked over at Suho and knew that they were thinking the same thing – Baekyeol.

I think we should stay here, at least for a little while,” Suho suggested, placing the tray on the bedside table and picking up the television remote.

Yeah. You're right.” Lay got back into bed because whatever was going on downstairs was probably something they don't want to be a part of. So for the rest of the morning, Suho and Lay stayed in their room, watching cartoons and looking up the directions for the shops nearby that offered the free chocolate making session.

When they finally left the safety of their room, they ran into Chen who glared at them, his face a mixture of resentment and envy. “You two are so lucky.”

What did we miss?”

One of the most appalling thing you could ever see.” He closed his eyes for a second and shuddered – probably picturing whatever it was that frightened him. “Never again,” Chen mumbled before he walked away, heading towards his own room.

Suho and Lay exchanged glances. They both knew that they had dodged some sort of bullet. Whew.

When they got to the candy shop, there were quite a number of people there buying chocolates for their valentines. Lay had expected to see Luhan and Sehun, but surprisingly the pair wasn't here. They headed towards the back of the store where the private lessons were to be held. A sweet old lady greeted the two of them, and after introducing herself, she got them pink aprons and began her lesson.

Getting the eggs to be perfect hearts was nothing compared to shaping melted chocolate into hearts.

I didn't think it would be this difficult,” Lay admitted, picking up a piece of dark chocolate that instead of looking like a heart, looked more like a kidney. “I at this,” Lay said, feeling somewhat dejected.

Suho laughed at his kidney chocolate. “We can just give the bad ones to Baekyeol.”

Lay laughed. “You're right,” he said, feeling somewhat better about his failure in making chocolates. He looked over at Suho's side and his eyes widened. “You're really good,” he said, voice sounding amazed. He found himself wondering if there was anything that Suho wasn't good at.

When Suho brought out his second batch of perfectly shaped white chocolates, Lay concluded that his boyfriend was simply good at everything.

After leaving the candy shop with two bags filled with their handmade chocolates, the two went to the park where they had a quiet lunch next to the lake. It wasn't anything fancy, just an assortment of sandwiches that Lay had prepared earlier. They even ate some of the chocolates they made. Lay decided that Suho's chocolates were the best – a lot better than the ones he made. But Suho disagreed, telling him that his chocolates were tasty. Lay rolled his eyes and told himself that Suho was one of those boyfriends who would lie about their lover's cooking just to make them happy.

Though Lay secretly enjoyed watching Suho try and finish his horrible chocolates. The bright smile that Suho would give him after he had successfully swallowed the piece told Lay two things – 1. Suho has a high tolerance for disgusting chocolates and 2. he loves Suho for making him stupidly happy at the fact that he was eating his horrible chocolates.

I think this is my first time having so much fun on Valentine's Day,” Lay admitted when they walked out of the bookstore – where Suho had brought him after lunch, telling him that he wanted to buy a newly released book. Lay had no idea that Suho was actually using the bookstore as an excuse to be on that particular street.

You're actually a good Valentine, Suho,” Lay teased, showcasing his dimple smile.

You're not so bad yourself,” Suho teased back.

Thanks Suho.”

Hm?”

For making today so memorable for me. For making our first Valentine's Day together absolutely perfect.”

Suho hummed in response, suddenly taking ahold of Lay's hand and leading him somewhere.

Uh. Suho, that's not the way home.”

I know.” He stopped and looked at Lay. “The night's still young.”

And with that he led Lay down a familiar street. It was the street that he and Suho had walked down multiple times before. It was where their workplace was located. Is he taking me to where we work?

Sure enough, they were standing in front of Lovely Flowers – the flower shop where they both work. Today the owner had decided to close the shop because they had sold almost all of the flowers the day before Valentine's.

Why are we here?” Lay asked. All he got in response was a smirk from Suho before he took something out of his back pocket – a set of keys.

Wait. We're going in?” Lay asked, taken by surprise. Suho nodded before he walked up to the door and opened it with his keys.

Aren't you coming in?” Suho asked when he stepped in and found Lay still rooted to his spot outside the shop.

Are we entering the shop without permission? Is this legal? Oh my god. This is exciting!

Coming,” Lay singsonged as he walked inside. Suho flipped the switch, lighting up the place.

For some reason Lay's heart was beating a lot faster than before. Maybe this is how Baekhyun and Chanyeol feel whenever they do something spontaneous or unexpected. And maybe Lay could get use to this feeling of adrenaline rushing through his veins as he followed Suho deep inside the flower shop. Definitely exciting, Lay thought as Suho led him up the back staircase.

What he didn't know was that Suho had actually gotten permission to use the shop from their boss the other day. Suho, seeing the excitement in Lay's eyes, decided not to ruin his boyfriend's fantasy of them doing something out of the ordinary.

We're going to the rooftop?” Lay asked when they reached the top of the staircase.

Mhm.” Suho opened the door in front of them and...........

Wow,” Lay murmured.

The rooftop was decorated with tiny glittering lights all along the rails and right in the center was a small round table set for two. And next to the table was a cart covered with a white linen cloth, and under it was what Lay assumed was going to be their dinner.

Suho,” Lay started, still trying to wrap his mind around everything that was happening.

Surprise,” Suho said, throwing his arms out in a grand gesture.

Wha--”

Dinner for my Valentine,” Suho replied with a heartwarming smile, causing Lay to blush because that was similar to what he said this morning during breakfast.

They sat down and while Suho was lighting the candles set in the middle of the table, Lay looked around – feeling extremely flattered at how much time and effort his boyfriend had put into surprising him with a romantic dinner. On a rooftop. Oh yes. Best Valentine's Day ever.

Suho cleared his throat, bringing Lay's attention back to him.“I was worried you wouldn't be so excited about this...It's not very extravagant compared to --”

I love it,” Lay blurted out, heart bursting with affection for the man in front of him.

Suho grinned. “Whew. You have no idea how happy that makes me.”

Lay smiled. “So what's for dinner Mr. Chef?”

Let's see.” Suho lifted the cloth off the cart, revealing all kinds of dishes. What...No way.

Lay's eyes widened because Suho had prepared all of his favorite Chinese dishes.

Stunned, Lay looked over to Suho who bit his lip nervously. “Do you like it?”

..........”

Lay's eyes wondered back to the dishes on the cart. “No,” he mumbled.

Suho's eyes widened. He panicked. “O-oh. Uh sorry. I just t-thought that --”

I don't like it. I love it.”

Lay grinned, pleased with how Suho's face lit up at his words. Suho lets out a relieved sigh. “That wasn't very nice! I thought you hated it for it second there.”

How could I possibly hate it?”

Suho smiled. “You're right. How could you?”

Lay rolled his eyes. “Shall we start? I don't want it to get cold.”

Suho laughed. “Yeah.” He picked up a dish from the cart and placed it in front of Lay, whose mouth nearly watered at the sight of the food.

But before we start, can I get a --” Suho searched inside his coat pocket and pulled a coupon for a Heart-Stopping Kiss. Lay could almost see the blush on his cheeks as he showed Lay the coupon.

Lay leaned over the table and whispered, “Babo, you didn't need a coupon,” before he pressed his lips to Suho's. He hoped that the kiss was heart-stopping for Suho because it definitely was for him...

When he parted their lips, Suho looking somewhat dazed spluttered, “A-after we're done, there's somewhere else we have to go.”

Lay's brows knitted together. “There's more?” He asked, uncontainable anticipation in his voice.

Suho checked his watch. “Yeah. Valentine's Day isn't over yet....”
