Description

Minho has been a cop for seven years. For the first six, he was a major position in the Seoul Metropolitan Police force. For the seventh, he was transferred to the Los Angeles Police, where he meets Kyung Mi, a bright, aspiring teenager just out of high school that wants to be a part of the force. Minho is forced to mentor her - but there is a problem. He absolutely hates her.

Donghae, Minho's best friend, finds himself slowly falling farther and farther into the darkness of his past when he finds out his father is dying. He hides it behind his smile and playfull, joking exterior...but without Minho, he doesn't know how to pull himself out. That is, until Minho returns to Korea, and brings Kyung Mi along with him. With Minho's help, he is able to retrieve himself, and with Kyung Mi's help, he manages to stay out of the darkness for good. He slowly finds himself falling for Kyung Mi...but what happens when someone else loves her too?

Kyung Mi has always put her job, her family, and her friends before anything else - especcially love. But...what happens when love steps in front of everything else?

Kyuhyun has been a cop for almost as long as Minho. He thought his life was perfect. He had a great job, working with great people. As a kid, he had dreamed of being a police officer - and he had it. He was healthy. His family was healthy. Why wouldn't it be perfect? ...But what happens when an eighteen-year-old criminal named Lee Sungmin, makes Kyuhyun realize that his life hadn't been as perfect as he thought?

Foreword

There was smoke and rubble everywhere, evidence of the blast that had just occurred.

Donghae felt his eyes burn and he coughed violently as he tried to wave the tan smoke away.

What the hell...

He looked around warily and didn't see his comrades anywhere. Minho was missing, along with Kyung Mi.

I hope they found someplace to hide before the explosion.

Minho tensed when he heard the distinctive sound of a rifle being cocked and rolled to the left, all his training over the past four years kicking in. He pulled his body up into a crouched position and brought his pistol up at an exact ninety degree angle, his left arm supporting his right wrist. He fired off two shots in rapid succession, not giving the enemy in front of him any time to retaliate. The man clutched at his chest where the first bullet had hit, crying out in pain and his gun clattering to the ground, slipping from his fingers like soap. His painful cry fell short, however, when the second bullet entered his brain mili-seconds later, killing him instantly.

Minho didn’t stay to watch the man fall. There were still three people left that he and his partner needed to deal with.

He needed to hurry.

Standing in the alleyway across from him, silhouetted in darkness, was a man Donghae knew well.

Seeing him standing there so casually, made Donghae's blood boil.

He tightened his grip on his pistol, feeling his whole body thrum with anger.

I should shoot him right now...

Donghae truly wished he could. The man was a traitor.

But he couldn't. Not yet.

"Come on out, Donghae. I know you're there." There was that smooth voice of his. Donghae could practically hear the smile on his face.

Donghae only took a second to be surprised. He swallowed and revealed himself, stepping out from behind the shed he had been hiding behind. His gun was in his hand, but he didn't remember pulling it out of it's holster.

The man, smiling, extended his arms in what he thought was a friendly gesture. It set Donghae's teeth on edge instead. "Donghae, I knew you'd come. It was only a matter of time." The man walked forewords, stepping into the moon-light as he did so.

Scowling, Donghae stood his ground, the only movement he made was pulling the hammer back on his pistol, warning the man to stop from walking any closer.

The man finally lowered his arms, frowning at Donghae in mock hurt.

"Is that the way to treat an old friend, Hae? I'm disappointed in you."

"Shut up." Donghae snarled. "You're no longer any friend of mine."

"Is that so? That's a pity. I was going to let you live tonight because of that reason..."

With that, the younger man pulled out his own pistol, placing his finger on the trigger and pulling it back before Donghae could react.

"Minho! Minho!"

Minho turned around, frowning, when he heard his name. Kyuhyun was racing down the hallway after him, panic in his eyes. His headset still on, unplugged. Minho could see the cord dangling by the younger's hip.

"Kyuhyun?" He blinked. "What's wrong?"

Kyuhyun slid to a stop next to him, and took a second to breathe, bending over with his hands on his kneecaps.

"Y-You ha-have to lo-look at this!" Kyuhyun in a lung full of air, then took Minho's hand and began racing back to the computer lab where he had came from.

"Kyuhyun! What's going on?!" Minho tried to squirm free of his grip, but Kyuhyun refused to let go, even when he protested loudly.

Their co-workers, those of whom were still there, were staring at them as they raced through the hallways, but Kyuhyun didn't care.

"Kyu! Please tell me what's going on!"

Kyuhyun didn't answer; they had entered the computer lab. The place was empty, for it was fairly late in the evening and most people were already home. All the computers were shut down but one - and that was the one Kyuhyun dragged him to.

Kyuhyun released Minho's hand and pointed at the screen, his eyes still wide and his face paler than usual.

Minho read the text on the screen, and felt his heart drop.

No...please, no.

He glanced at Kyuhyun, hoping it was a joke, but the younger shook his head sadly.

"How could this be?" Minho was hardly conscious of the fact that he had pulled out the leather chair and sunk into it. He placed his head in his hands.
