Foreword

“Run!” Jung Min demanded as he saw the tears that he hated seeing the most in her eyes.

“Don’t come back again! I’ll take care of this!” he told her whilst pushing her towards the door.

“No! We’ll take care of it together! We’ll go prison together! Please don’t leave me!” Gyuri cried as she tried to break free from his forceful pushes.

He stopped for a while and looked at her in the eyes, her teary eyes always softened his heart, but he knew this time he could not afford to soften his heart.

“Listen to me, I promise I will come back for you. I’d rather I go prison than you – ” he was interrupted by the pleading voice of his loved one.

“No! You can’t! I won’t let you!” tears trickled down from her eyes uncontrollably, staining her fair skin. He embraced her tightly in his arms, for the last time he smelled the familiar aroma and her smooth hair, she cried in his embrace, unwilling to leave him.

Gyuri wrapped her hands around his waist firmly, reluctant to let go of the embrace and afraid to think of their destiny from this day onwards.

She was not stronger than Jung Min; he easily lifted her arms away from his waist. He her face for the last time, wiping away her tears. He forcefully gave her one last smile; he wanted her to remember him like this, a happy person.

“Promise me you’ll wait...” he said between forceful smiles.

“I’ll wait for you...” she tried to force a smile out of her tear-filled face and let Jung Min lead her towards the door.

Gyuri stood outside the door looking at JungMin who was opposite her, staring at her in the eyes. The distance between them was less than half a meter but they did not dare to close up the distance, afraid that they would not be willing to let each other go again.

“Go... Don’t turn back again...” Jung Min told her, he felt his heart burning inside him, his eyes started to water as he unwillingly sent her away.

“How will I find you again?” she asked weakly, tears still rolling down her face.

“Remember? The fortune teller told us we were fated... Once fated... Always fated... Fate will bring us together again...” he assured her, forcing another smile on his face. Gyuri jerked forward a little and tried to give him one last hug, Jung Min raised his hand between them, symbolising for her to stop.

“Goodbye...” he said to her sorrowfully as the tears that he tried hard to keep back escaped from his eyes, rolling down his cheeks. He closed the door reluctantly, the wooden door separated them cruelly, and they could no longer see each other’s faces or hear each other’s voices.

Jung Min looked back around the house; he approached the corpse which lay motionlessly on the floor, then he shakily took out his mobile and dialled the number to the police.

The past memories of him and Gyuri flashed into his head like a film as he waited for the operator to pick up, he wished he could go back into time and change everything so that he and Gyuri would not have to be separated.

The operator finally picked up; Jung Min was prepared for the consequences of the phone call as he spoke nervously to the operator, confessing his wrong doings.
