Dara was treated like a complete stranger at her house. She received a kiss from her dad every once in a while, but it wasn't sincere and Dara knew it. The only sincere thing Dara's father did, that she was aware of, is saying how much he loved himself. He claimed to love the family but they knew it wasn't true. The thing about a lie is if you want other people to believe it you have to believe it yourself. Dara's dad definitely did not, and it was quite obvious.
